so i'm going to a wedding in SLO on saturday

there is a rehersal dinner friday

i have to look nice

i brought a black shirt and a blue shirt with me to wear. i thought i'd buy slacks, shoes, and 2 ties for the occasion.

well, i have to get a full on suit, which is fine, but i was also directly told by the bride's father, the bride, and my gf that

"you cannot wear a black shirt. you are not garth brooks. it looks tacky"

my response: "but i've often worn a black shirt before"

gf: "doesn't mean you didn't look tacky before"

wtf. black shirt is balla.

some gold bling around my neck, sporting the gold watch, black shirt buttoned half way up, black slacks, black leather belt, black shoes....

well... i got a v. dark blue pinstripe suit w/ a white (light cream?) shirt and silvery tie for the wedding... and i got a tan checkery looking thing of a sports coat w/ black slacks and a maroon shirt for the rehearsal dinner....

just for kicks i got this black shirt (t-shirt? it basically looks like a long sleeved thermal... only classy) for under the sport shirt if I decide to not go w/ the maroon shirt.... $680 for the ensemble (b b or v?)... dam

you shouldn't even wear a blue shirt to a wedding (or a funeral) - you need to wear white. you should also wear only a blue or black suit.

black shirts with ties are a bad idea. a gray suit - think sharkskin - with a black shirt - open collar/no tie is sweet for dinners etc, but don't try to make fashion statements at someone else's special day.

believe me... i make no fashion statements (i was just going for what i assumed to be a sensible choice.... which i guess it was not).... and both shirts (the black and the blue one) have gone by the way side

i'm gonna look very proper and daper at the wedding and very "i say old boy" and country club at the reherseal dinner
