What's funny is that not only did the winning bidder bid $127, but the second-place bidder bid $126. So, at least two people bid over face value. Weird.

The only thing I can think of is that someone wants to buy something from Amazon, and doesn't have a credit card, bank account, or checking account. So the only way for them to purchase something is to use a gift certificate -- maybe they intend to pay for the gift certificate using a money order. But this doesn't really explain it, since there are so many Amazon certificates on eBay that (s)he surely could've found one for 90-100% of face value.

Yeah, what's funny is it takes 2 idiots to drive the bid up, not just one!

Makes me laugh, which is needed since I've lost one of my main sources of income.

More likely they will be paying for the $100 GC with stolen or forged financial info. If every criminal could convert $127 of stolen value into $100 of legitimate value, they would do so every time.

That seems to be the case. If you check buying history for this member you will see that he has bought several gift certificates already, many of them for over face value.

Another possible idea, I have had a pissed off buyer just go crazy and bid on all my items for sale, using two names, then of course, flaking and not paying for any of them.

This happened a couple years ago, I had sold a Pat Tilman football card right after he died, some guy took it the wrong way and just bid on all my items with two accounts, running them way up. It was a mess, messed up my whole week or auctions.
