We\'ve joined China

So, China censors the web and doesn't allow online gambling.

It's frustrating, but whenever I talk to my friend in China, and have a website to show her, like 10% of the time she can't get to it.

The Chinese government bans porn, gambling, and sites they deem aren't good for their citizens:

We've started doing it too!!!!

wow...but aren't there a bunch of sites that discuss illegal activities? I never heard of them having legal problems before.

Many Republicans have also talked about banning mainstream porn sites. I'm not talking about child porn either, they want to ban you from renting adult dvd's from the sites that rent them like netflix does hollywood movies.

I've been thinking for a while the USA is heading towards a totalitarian regime. I know that might sound extreme however slowly but surely they are chipping away at your freedom, usually in the name of stopping terrorists but now this free speach is no longer allowed apparently. I would hate to be living in your country in 30 years time, just think how much freedom they could have slowly taken away by then. Bush makes me laugh when he goes on about middle eastern police states and how he has to invade them as there people have no freedom and then in the next breath he's taking away some more freedom from you guys.

The government would be doing everyone who pays for porn a favor.

Re: We\'ve joined China

The worst thing about the evil CCPs internet blockade is that they block information about things like Falun Gong Meditation all the while slandering it to the people using the state run media machine, entirely preventing people from finding out the facts about the 7 year persecution against it and the atrocities the ccp has committed.

At least the US hasn't quite come to that level, although censorship of that sort is really irrational. It makes no sense to do that to gambling if you aren't moreso willing to do it to things like child pornography and terrorism.

Hey, you can buy your own gun and shoot people, then if you have money enough you can get yourself a good lawyer and not go to jail. Isn't that freedom?

Actually, there is some difference between mass media in the US and the rest of the world.

For example, the US TV tends to show Iraqi children playing and laughing on a merry-go-round, while most of the rest of the world opts for blood-smeared walls and children with severed limbs. Foreign media also more openly talk about "Bush using the terrorist card once more" and so forth. You may argue that this isn't exactly censorship, but at least it gives a somewhat distorted image of what is really happening.
