"It's been over 10 years in the making. The enforcement provisions provided by this bill will go a long way to stop these illegal online operations,” one of the bill's key backers, Sen. Jon Kyl, a Republican of Arizona, said in a statement.

John Kyl tried many years ago with Dean Smith and John Thompson to eliminate college sports betting even in Vegas (which would kill my annual March Madness trip). He has been at it ever since. Once he failed at that he started in on Internet gambling back in 1997. It took him 9 years to even sneak in a law restricting banks from dealing with gambling offshore sites. Many tries and many failures. Such a loser that this is his only claim to fame.

To the poker players in Arizona, please vote him out next time he comes up for election before he joins Rep. Goodlatte (VA) again (yes talking to you Virginia voters) on a more intense persecution of us online poker players that was originally proposed.

You are right about Kyl, but Frist is the one who got it put on the back of the port security bill. If not for Frist it wouldn't have gotten passed.

I believe the saying is "Kyl style with a Frist twist"

Re: Its not Bill Frist - its Sen John Kyl!

Frist probably owed Kyl a favor. If not for Kyl there would not be a bill for Frist to pass. Vote out Kyl, who by the way is up for election this year and he can't push for next phase of gambling prohibition during his next 6 YEARS in office.

I went to college with Kyl's son. I don't think there was another student in the school with a stick that far up his [censored].

Not sure who to vote for. Either DeWine the Republican or Sherrod Brown, current house Dem. who voted for the initial ban.

For the Arizona People...

Since Jim Pederson isn't much of an option take a look at the Libertarian candidate Richard Mack.

I'm not sure either. Can't really fault someone for voting for it since it was wrapped up in a much larger piece of legislation. And for a Republican DeWine is pretty good.

Lets make sure to keep voting. Two years from now it is just as important to elect your Congressman in or out as you see fit. Every election is critical, Federal and local. If you have a laissez faire attitude toward politics then you have noone to blame but yourself.

Our beloved party has been hijacked by the Christian right. Makes me sick to my stomach. I simply can't comprehend how it's come to this (talking in general, not only the recent gambling legislation).

Minor point, but Goodlatte is from my old district in Virginia, and he runs unopposed every 2 years, so he's not going anywhere until he chooses to.

Goodlatte: This is the face of one of the guys who wants to take away your right to play poker.

http://www.vote-smart.org/bio.php?can_id=H4102103

What a tight ass looking guy.

Look at all his anti-gambling speeches
http://www.vote-smart.org/speech.php?can_id=H4102103

Goodlatte is not running unopposed, he has 2 challengers (Dem, Ind) this year:

http://www.vote-smart.org/bio.php?can_id=MVA57983

http://www.vote-smart.org/bio.php?can_id=MVA26819

Remember not voting for a candidate takes 1 vote away. Voting for their opponent is like taking 2 away.
------------
Mack is Libertarian running against Kyl.

He checked box saying "Regulating the Internet is not a responsibility of the federal government."

http://www.vote-smart.org/bio.php?can_id=MAZ10541

Sam T. - did Kyl's son have a gambling problem or something? Too many weekend trips to Vegas?

Look at the kind of B.S. Kyl has been spewing in public for years. Just one example in March 2003 (conveniently during March Madness):

http://www.vote-smart.org/speech_det...=&contain=

Sounds like he got it from the old "Reefer Madness" movie.

I think this is a really bad idea. Why do you say Pederson isn't much of an option? The LAST thing we need is for Anti-Kyl voters to split their votes between Mack and Pederson. Then Kyl is guaranteed to win. Just like when Clinton won his first election because Repubs split between Perot and Bush. Pederson must certainly be the more well known opponent and have more backing, and that is why ALL AZ voters should vote Pederson (as I will be doing) next month.

Oh for sure, Pederson is more well known than Kyl, but if you're not into what pederson stands for it would be kinda silly to vote for him just because you miss making deposits into your online poker account.
