Thoughts on Theme Parties
When you go to a theme party where dressing to the theme is not required, do you do it? If you are going there to pick up girls, do you think you have a better chance if you dress the theme, or if you "be yourself" and don't try to act all tacky. Do you ever feel out of place when you don't dress up? Feel stupid and awkward when you do?
I'm going to a country/western theme party at the campus bar tonight. Normally I don't dress up for these type of things, but tonight I've decided to sport the cowboy hat and belt buckle to see how it goes. Just curious to hear others thoughts on the subject. |
Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
Hey, I went to DKE's western theme party 2 years ago and a lot of the people weren't even dressed up. I'm guessing that you're going to the Pit tonight and I think that there will be quite a few others who won't dress up so you *should* be fine. It's not as pronounced as Halloween when EVERYONE dresses up - in an occasion like this, you'll have to dress up or else you'll look like a douche.

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
Yea, it was at the Pit. I went sporting my country gear, and actually I was the one who felt out of place. Maybe 1 in 10 people were dressed up, if that. Probably because a lot of the people had just come from the Ski&Board beer garden or the football game. I think for future reference, unless its Halloween or a basically mandatory thing, I'll just go as myself.

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
the only theme party i will likely dress up for this year will be halloween (not sure what yet, but either v for vendetta or JP from grandmas boy,) the rest are simply exscuses for hot girls to wear next to nothing and not be called [censored] by all of the other ugly jealous girls.

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
wearing a cowboy hat isn 't exactly going all out when it comes to dressing up...last weekend for an anything but clothes mixer with a sorority, i stole a banner from their rival sorrority and turned it into my outfit... and yes it;s easier to pick up girls if you dress to the theme and don't give a [censored] about what they think about what you are wearing... with girls it;s all about your confidence. if you are confortable dressing up, there is no reason not to

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
I usually dont dress up for these either. I see no reason to most of the time, as its just an additional annoyance. And since 1/2 the theme parties around here are graffti parties, I stopped doing it cause I only have limited undershirts.

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
I like to do it. If nothing else, it's a conversation piece.

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
I find its easier to socialize if I participate a bit in the dressing up.

[/ QUOTE ] If it was a house party, I'd say definetly dress up. It's a downer for those that throw the party if you don't and if it's hot chicas throwing the party you'd definetly score points with them for participating. Still, dressing up is definetly in your favor (Even more so with the dressed up girls). As someone else said it's a good conversation piece. It also shows you have balls enough to be silly and enjoy yourself. But don't disguise yourself completely with a mask or anything. The girls at least have to have a teaser of what you look like (and not just a hole in the jeans). |
Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
We had a 'catholic school' party last semester that turned out amazing. The catholic part might have to be refined depending on who you're inviting. However the premise is the girls dress up in their slutty school girl uniforms, and the guys get by with wearing polos or sweaters. It turned out reaaaal nice.

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
I hate 'theme' parties and refuse to attend. Halloween and Christmas parties are enough.
It's an excuse for people to not develop the social skills to think of conversation on their own. |
Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
I've lived in an off-campus house for 3/4 of my college years with 5 roommates. We've had half of our big parties, that is birthdays, holidays, end of the year type stuff be themes. Usually all of our friends comply and as an incentive we do like "5 to get in 3 if you're dressed up" That seems to work.
Persoanlly I like themed parties, they get people riled up before the party and encourages ridiculous behavior. Next up: peter pan party in november (anyone in NYC is invited) Girls wearing fairy/pirate/wendy outfits Boys in pirate/lostboy/peter pan outfits Sounds gay but everyone gets laid. |

Re: Thoughts on Theme Parties
One theme party I've heard of that sounds kinda interesting is called a handcuff party.
Each guy is handcuffed to a girl, and the two of them are given a quantity of alcohol to finish. Maybe a 26oz or 40oz bottle or whatever someone decides is a good amount. They are not given the keys to their cuffs until it is all finished. |
