ESPN.com article about me
I haven't posted in forever on here but...
Here is an article that was written about me for ESPN.com. The writer did a really good job on it. I guess you could say this my 15 minutes of fame ESPN.com article |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
I just came to the boards to post this article, I'm not even kidding. You are Clayton? That's pretty freaking cool. I've been watching you from the stands for a couple years now. I always enjoyed seeing your energy on the sidelines and reading about how much the players respect you. Your story has always been inspirational to me, in fact, my friends and I were just discussing all of this last week (before we even saw the ESPN article). I was there at pretty much every single game (except a couple regular season road games) during the 2004 championship run (I'm a member of the Marching Royal Dukes and went to the Lehigh game on my own ) Those playoff games have to be some of the best games I've ever seen in my life (with the Furman road win at #1)
I gotta say I love that pass pattern over the middle to LC Baker and the receivers look good! Looking forward to heading back to Chattanooga this year :-). |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Geez, I am also an MRD and have been observing you and your impact on the team for a couple of years. I have a ton of respect from what i've seen, and have been talking about how our receiving looks very strong this season. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for sharing.
You should be proud of your accomplishments. Best of luck this season. |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Excellent and inspirational story. As a former Duke (class of '02) I am cheering the team on!

Re: ESPN.com article about me
Clayton,
JMU Alumni here ('02)...I really don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. Your story is pure inspiration. I wish more people had your mentality and strength. This world would be a much better place if they did. Oh and beat UNH & Richmond! |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Wow, lots of Dukes up in this house.

Re: ESPN.com article about me
Hey Clayton, we met a couple of times at (or waiting for) the tables in Vegas and I was really impressed by your general approach. Congrats on this, it's a real honor.

Re: ESPN.com article about me
Thanks everyone..we're 2-1 right now and ranked 14th in the nation right now. This job has definitely cut into my poker playing hours.
Unreal how many ex-Dukes are on here. We got one on the final table of the ME this year...wait till next. Gary, enjoyed meeting and talking to you in Vegas this year. Only made it out for a few days this year, but hopefully a week next year. |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Hey I'm still a current Duke here :-). Would you respond if I yelled a supbro at the next game?

Re: ESPN.com article about me
Definitely would at least throw the hand up.

JMU class of '06
Good to hear you've persevered and accomplished so much. Certainly motivates me to get off my ass and start doing what I love... |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Just wanted to say I've been following your story, and I'm happy for your success.
Cheers, - Dan |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Clayton, did you get a chance to meet Tim Strachan when you guys played at Maryland this year? His story sounds pretty similar to yours, and he works in the radio booth now. Good guy.
|
Re: ESPN.com article about me
FWIW, I don't know why I thought of this today, but I just realized that it was William & Mary, not JMU that we opened witht this year. Always mixing up those little Virginia schools for some reason. Regardless, your story reminded me of Strachan.
Good luck the rest of the season. |

[/ QUOTE ] I've heard good things about Strachan. Never met the guy, but know of his story and what he is doing now. One day I hope to sit down and hang out with him for an afternoon. |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Great story, Clayton. You are a badass.

Re: ESPN.com article about me
Gooooo Dukes!!!
We whipped them this weekend up in NH. It was 42-10 with 6 mins left in that game. Next up is William & Mary, then we play Richmond for the conference championship. It's nuts how many Dukes are on here. |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Cl80n,
Great work. I had the pleasure of watching this game on TV in Northern Virginia with about 8 other JMU alum. More A-10 games (and JMU games for that matter) should be televised. I-AA is great football for those that don't know (the last few years we have actually seen alot of I-AA teams beating or almost beating I-A teams). And there is a very exciting PLAYOFF system unlike D-I. |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
cl8on,
Congrats on the win, good luck next weekend and keep us posted with any news. |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
Clayton,
Just saw this thread for the first time. Great story. Congrats on the UNH win. --aj |
Re: ESPN.com article about me
cl8on,
One hell of a win! I watched this game w/ Wes Mantooth and wh1t3bread and we had tons of fun seeing JMU whip that UNH ass. Bring on W & M and Richmond!! |
