In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
Not just a one night stand, but a long term relationship. So please keep the 'big titted nympho whore w/ double jointed legs and a wide set vagina' comments out.
I'm seriously asking what it is that guys are looking for. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
my thoughts don't represent a very large portion of the demographic you're looking for but I like quirkiness and curiosity a lot. You know, along with the physical stuff.
|
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
Most guys are looking for some version of their mom that accepts or even valorizes all of their stupid little boy issues, and is hot enough to keep them interested long enough to knock them up. After that they will get bored and cheat on her.

Can't be looked for, only found. (damn I can't type this morning) |

Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
intelligence- smart enough to carry a conversation, but not smart enough to make me feel stupid.
all about balance. dependent enough to make me feel wanted and needed, but independent enough to go out and get [censored] done. looks are pretty important too. but only to get things started. sex has to be good. preferably likes to cook and clean but not a necessity. |

Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
Somebody that listens and is patient.
Awesome appetites. Loves poker. Willin' to share the dream with you, wherever or whenever or whatever form it takes. Fortunate enough to have found her. Nobody comes into a relationship without baggage, but if you're willing to share the load, it rocks. Listening to her is always worthwhile. Knowing that it takes two to make the good things happen... Funny thing though, I didn't know I was lookin' for those things. 'course, she's gotta be a redhead. My downfall, but such sweet downfall. |

Most guys are looking for some version of their mom that accepts or even valorizes [/ QUOTE ] I don't know what this word means, and neither does google. Maybe "validates" is better? OP, A really good friend. I know its a cliche that at all the 50th anniversary parties, the old geezers stand up and say they're best friends, but after dating my girlfriend for four years or so, and living together for almost three, I think its pretty true. If you're looking for specifics, I really can't be more specific than that, because what each person looks for in a best friend varies. For me personally, its intelligence combined with bouts of irreverence, and an ability to be patient with me and not talk during sporting events unless well-educated and grounded on the subject matter at hand. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
A good personality. A positive look on life. Not someone that gets easily offended.
Brains. Empathy. Preferably a leftist political view. Physically I'm attracted to skinny girls. And I'm not a fan of make-up. At least not the 'bright red lipstick' look. |

Hard to explain, but its just the little things that help me recognize who someone is. Of course, I have to like who that someone is... I know this is vague and not really what you're asking for, but as of right now I'm not looking for anything really specific - just whatever I like, I guess. I absolutely love Amelie's quirkiness. And Lucien's too, although not in a romantic way. And curiosity can be pretty wide- it could be about books, molecular biology, life, whatever. Mainly its a girl's ability to be interested in something of her own volition and her wanting to ask questions and stuff. If this isn't there, I tend to get bored pretty fast. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
My last 5-6 girlfriends have alternated between
1) down to earth, straight-arrow, good girl types and 2) wild, rebellious, bad girl types I've had great relationships with both types, and terrible relationships with both types. As long as she is, deep down inside, a "good" person, I'm not sure it really matters. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
wtf. Go to google, enter "define: valorize" in the search, and copy/paste results.
EDIT: wtf at google, not you. EDIT edit: Sorry, didn't want to turn this into a nitfest of dictionary definitions. Just ignore that part of my post, I guess. |

RDH,
[ QUOTE ] To give or assign a value to: “The prophets valorized history” [/ QUOTE ] web page Google turned this up pretty much right away for me BTW. I suspect it may be one of those academia buzzwords that gets kicked around (apparently appropriated from the economics lexicon) but I think it fits. What I mean is, basically, a woman who thinks all the silly boy stuff you do is cute or even cool. Even if she has no interest in it, she should at least think it's cute or comforting that you care about it. NT |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
First hurdle, besides 'are you attractive,' is 'do you get my jokes.' I find this to be one of the most reliable indicators of a person's general intelligence and compatibility of personality. Think I'm funny or it's over.
I am attracted to kindness, exuberance, eccentricity and un-manufactured, un-stylish charisma. Lacking any ambition for status or many types of what is labeled 'achievement' - I am a creature of hobbies - I often find ambition in others interesting. I strongly feel that any relationship in which I am the better-organized, less-flaky party is doomed to failure. I like to be made to feel useful. I once described my ideally-envisioned relationship thusly - she'd be Margaret Thatcher, only hot and not such a bitch. I'd be her secret cabinet advisor that she ran when she was in trouble, and I'd be doing her on the side. Oh, and not, secretly, the Devil. That's a big one too. |

Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
Someone who is intelligent, with the same sense of humour as me, almost.
Quite sarcastic. Musical. Preferably hot with glasses. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
Tenne:
This is a good question. I bet most people here have no idea. We think we want someone like us, but no woman is like us, so we end up with a whole slew of different types of girl... I'm probably going to have to start thinking about this soon, (boo single life) so I've been going back over my relationship history and making generalizations about the women that I actually have dated/married and seeing what they have in common. Therefore, what I am looking for in a woman, not ideally but quantitatively is: Lack of interest in my abilities and ambitions (most important). Insatiable sexual appetite coupled with demanding idiosyncrasies to the point of impotence-inducing intimidation. Odd sense of humor that takes a while to crack. A dangerously escapist whimsy. Aversion to drinking and smoking (and a desire to force me to quit both). Great taste in music and movies, but with some traditional chick clunkers thrown in like Fever Pitch and Ani DiFranco. Good fashion sense, with a bent towards modesty and hip-ness rather than sexuality. Childish self-interest. Neediness. Jealousy. Credulity. A big ass. |

Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
intelligence, a quick wit (so obviously a sense of humor), compassioniate, sincere, compatible with me sexually (ie. we both generally want it the same amount, both have the same level of kinky, etc), willing to try new things, makes an effort to share (or at least understand) my interests, has a passion in her life that isnt me (or at least some outlet that doesnt involve me in anyway), and she cant be fat. (Athletic would be nice, but thats rare in my age group)
Not really in any order, and obviously no girl is ever gunna fit someones list perfectly, so girls I end up in relationships with dont have EVERY one of those characterisits, but for the most part they have most all of them. The only one that is a total deal breaker is the fat one...the intelligence once is close, I would never LTR a dumb girl, but I wouldnt drop a girl for being average in the brains department. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
My sense of humor is hit or miss with girls, so it HAS to click with her in a big way. I have the be the funniest f--king thing she knows.
She must be intelligent, and I mean really intelligent. Two standard deviations from the norm, 1500 SAT-ish, has interesting ideas about everything type of intelligent. She must be fun, and excite me, at least in the beginning, and must be able to relax. I must find her attractive, although this is not too demanding since I just like the way women look a lot of the time. Must love sex. And drinking. And understand poker. This part is weird, but I've developed an oddly specific type over the years that 80% of my signicant others have exhibited: Brown hair. Brown eyes. Tan/olive skin (think Israeli/Mediterranean), name that starts with the letter 'A'. 90% of my gf's have had names that started with A, I have no idea why. My mom's name is Anne, FWIW, though she has light skin and black hair. Anyways, God, that's my order, I'm available for delivery anytime. You know where to find me. P.S., The 'A' name thing is negotiable. I guess. If you have to. Natalie Portman, for example, would be fine. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
you don't really know til you find it, I humbly submit.
Time to trot out a cliche, my wife is my best friend. We do almost everything together. Play poker together, hang out with our friends together, etc. She shares my sense of humor, understands why I am the way I am, and I understand why she is the way she is. Also, as Anacardo can attest, she'll cut you if you mess with her. |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
She's surfing wedding dresses the other day. Fun stuff.
Anyway, goes the conversation, linky to a pretty awesome dress. "Oh, does she come with the dress?" "I'll break her in half." "But she's a B-cup! Look at her!" Wouldn't have it any other way, really. Loves looking at women as much as I do, but as much as suggest something... |
Re: In all seriousness, what are you looking for in a woman?
Sense of humor is #1 here. I would've left my girlfriend after the first couple boot knockings if she wasn't so fun to be around.
Really, it's useless to have a "type I'm looking for" because you're gonna find someone you like a lot, who hopefully likes you back. There's someone out there for everything. . . just hope the person you were meant to hook up with doesn't get hit by a bus while you're typing on a message board. I have been "in love" with women of such varied personality sets that I could not even begin to answer this. Or put another way: I still have no idea what I am looking for. I would wager most people either don't know... or think that they do and actually don't. |
