Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
To anybody in the know about the current PS3/video game industry, how profitable would it be to resell PS3's given the current launch date and expected units and anticipation for it? I'm thinking about getting a group of friends and camping out and getting some if they're worth it, i.e. $300 or so profit per unit. Thanks for any opinions.

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
In the past, consoles resold immediately on Ebay have gone for around 1.5-2x the market price, with adjustments for how popular the console is and the supply. If I'm not mistaken, Sony announced that only 400k units would be in the initial shipment, so if I had to take a guess, I'd say you'd make closer to $900 profit per unit. The problem is actually getting your hands on one. The preorders are going to sell out so freaking fast, you could be stuck with the 36th wave of shipments or something. Just my thoughts.

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
Preorder them... I think you can cancel if they're out.
BTW when do preorders for this start? |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
Let's start a list of good preorder places. If you have been successful getting your order filled for Xbox (and other hot systems before it) list it. I will look into my records. |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
You have to put money down on preorders for them to hold a system for you, so cancelling out on them may be a pain.

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
If you had a choice (which I'm not sure is too likely), would you recommend going with the $500 or $600 system to maximize ROI?

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
Is this sytem out in Japan yet?
|
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
I was thinking about doing this as well, they should sell for easily $1500 on eBay... just need to figure out where/when to preorder.

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
Do you mean that you think there will be many places to preorder? Double negatives are confusing.
|
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
If anyone knows where to pre order. I will provide the money for us to partner up. We can buy as many as you can get.
|
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
I may be wrong but I recently went to a game store and the guy told me you cant preorder them
he may have jsut been saying the store but i havent seen anywhere to preorder what im planning on doing is camping out wiht a couple friends and getting drunk at night and just paying them each liek 50 dollars or soemthing and giving them money to buy me on maybe pick up liek 3 units or something |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
I own a Gamestop in San Diego, it appears that I'll be receiving 20 PS3's when they are released. I don't think I will be putting any up for sale, and all on ebay.

Few places will accept preorders, fewer still will fill preorders. Your best bet is going to be paying people in the front of the line $100 for their spot. |

[/ QUOTE ]no, i believe they use a different format that doesn't work with american tv's unless you get a wacky adapter, and then i believe you will have to purchase all future games from japan. |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
How long will you have to wait in line? I could easily get 15 people to wait with me in line, give them money, pay them for their time / service.
|
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
u gotta wait overnight if u want one
i plan on camping out with a few friends myself |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
For people camping out-What time do you think is best to camp out? 6 PM the night before release? Earlier than that even?
|
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
any known places that will eventually be taking reserve orders. I know the average game stop will be recieving 20. Any other places????????

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
I plan on camping out for one. I camped for a 360 and kept it, but I might ebay the ps3. They will ebay for $1k-1.2k np.
Btw I would think that if you havent preordered one by now (or a few months ago) then your only chance will be camping. |

I talked to 2 game stores who said that due to a big hassle taking really early pre-orders on 360s, then having the amount getting shipped changed fairly late, that they weren't doing pre-orders till mid-late October. I still plan on pre-ordering about 6-10, maybe camping for a few more. |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
all the stores i've talked to haven't done pre-orders yet
they should be doing them sometime this month the key will be to figure out the morning of the day they start doing them so u can get high on the list and get one before xmas so u can sell for $$$ |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
ugh
just called local EB Games they said eb games/gamestops won't be doing ANY pre-orders at all, just first come first serve ugh |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
yeah one of my friends is a manager at ebay and he told me he couldn't score me any preorders

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
You need to take some care with this. I'm a eBay powerseller with feedback of over 6,000. If you have a low feedback score and no established track record folks are not as likely to pay top dollar.
The biggest concern/advice I can offer is that video games systems are very problematic. Many times you’ve have fictitious bidders with feedback scores of under 10 or even negative. Possibly it’s the other guys selling trying to screw with your auctions. You’ll find your item sells for 5x value but you’ll never get paid. And with a time sensitive item you need to get paid right away. You may want to consider only allowing pre-approved bidders (see ebay for details) or stating that you’ll only allow feedback scores of +25 and canceling bids of the scammers. Id’ also require immediate payment via paypal as an option. Good luck.. if you give it a run… |

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
Wow thanks for the info on the preorders. I think I'll hit up the stores in Reno and see if they will be doing them sometime this month.

You can always return it for your $$ back. |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
I have a source in Japan and will be able to get my PS3s through there ... I've been reading about the different systems, and it doesn't seem like there's any limitation for an American player to buy a Japanese system and play any American game on it ... I'll only be buying my PS3s 6 days earlier than Americans, and then the cost of shipping / insuring them over here is another additional cost, but at least this way I can avoid sitting out front of a Best Buy ... anyone know of any other issues with buying the Japanese system and selling to Americans?

Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
I am from Europe and trying to fix a PS3 in the US, but I would like to know if anyone knows it will be possible to play European games on an American PS3?
Another problem is ofcourse I have not seen anyone shipping PS3's to Europe, so I need some connections (2+2? ) in the US to fix this. I've seen people saying prices will be between $1k-1,2k, is that what it's probably going to be? Anyways, I am open for offers! I have a nice Neteller bankroll Don't hesitate to pm me and we'll work something out. greets. |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
selling anytime before xmas will be very +ev
selling just after xmas when people got xmas money and ps3s are still sold out will still be +ev, just not as much as prior to xmas but if nobody does preorders, then can only get one each by camping out |

[/ QUOTE ] Just be very careful about getting paid right away with paypal. Folks will string you along looking for a better deal... or just be jerks. Another option is if you do gets screwed over with the winner of the auction, eBay has a feature called "2nd chance auction" that works like this... You log in and create a private auction for the bidders that did not win. You can limit it to the just the 2nd highest bidder,(or more if you prefer) you can limit the number of days that have to accept (1,3,7 I believe?) If you have several systems and the difference between the top bid and the 3rd bid is only $15, make offers to all! The only deal is... you can only make the offer for what they were willing to bid. So the winner would let's say go for $470, the 2nd chance offer would have to be at the 2nd bidder’s highest price $465 let's say.. and 3rd place would have to be at their price $460. So why do it? Its makes the buyer feel as if he's got the full protection of eBay/paypal etc.. just like winning so it does not feel like an offline deal with higher risk. I use it once in awhile for my Zippo lighters, which go for about $65 and I've got a stockpile of... Vintage Zippo Lighters |
Re: Thoughts on ebaying/reselling ps3\'s
Should I be trying to improve my ebay rating by buying and reselling random crap to get good reviews. Or is my 5 rating good enough to get buyers?
Also, what is the correct way to price the ps3s to maxamize +EV? Start at 500 dollars. Or start it higher closer to 1000? Have a buy-it-now of 1800? |
