Gold Leads TCI Invitational Poker Tournanment
WSOP Champion Dominates in His First Tournament Appearance
Jamie Gold, the 2006 World Series of Poker champion finds himself once again in a prime position to take down another title. For Gold’s first post-WSOP appearance, he chose a tournament situated on a beautiful chain of islands known as Turks and Caicos Islands. Located 573 miles southeast of Miami, this exclusive tournament has attracted some of poker’s biggest names.

Joining Gold in the competition were featured TCI tournament star, Johnny Chan, Gold’s fellow Bodog teammate David Williams, poker’s would-be rookie of the year, Jeff Madsen, Carlos “The Matador” Mortenson, Amir Vahedi, Ian Frazer, and David “Devil Fish” Ulliot. Only Chan and Madsen made to today’s starting field of 30 players.

Despite his lush surroundings, Gold has managed to stay focused and take on all challengers. Continuing his regimen of blueberries and highly aggressive play, Gold has successfully navigated the field and positioned himself to win his second tournament in a row.

Why does he even play tournaments when he can't get ahold of the prize money?

mephisto 09-14-2006 03:34 PM

Re: Eighth Sign of the Appocalypse....Jamie Gold news

Why wouldn't he be playing tournaments? He's probably doing it for either a Bodog or for Chan as a promo. Either way, he can do whatever he wants.

Of course Jeff Madsen is there. Unreal.

He has no chance if Madsen is at his table.

I wonder what Chan thinks of Gold welching on the deal. Even if Gold doesn't care what other players think, I would imagine in Chan's circles that stuff is pretty important. IE - they might look down on Chan for continuing to associate with Gold. I know I would.

Maybe there never was a deal with Chan, and it was just another possibly-fictionalized statement that came out of Gold's mouth during that time.

Chan's circles? What exactly are you implying? That because Chan is Chinese his entire base of family and friends all follow a single code of ethics passed down from generation to generation. Chan and his "clan" have been here long enough (decades) and have been involved in the gambling industry long enough to know what goes on. Someone claiming that another guy owes him 6 million is not going to cause Gold to "lose face" with Chan or Chan to lose face with anyone else. So far all we have is the story of one guy. Maybe it's true and maybe it's not. Even if it's true we all know that when it comes to big money everything is negotiable.

I assumed that the reference was to Chan's peers on the poker circuit. How you got race or clans or whatever out of that is way too twisted or politically correct to believe.

Re: Eighth Sign of the Appocalypse....Jamie Gold news

Jamie Gold, the most hated man in the history of poker appears to be the super (natural) talent that world has never seen. Long series of wins in big tournaments seem impossible with edge like 800% max to ordinary tourney players, that the top players are said to have. Who is this guy? A messiah or anti christ?

Now it's time to jump the bandwagon. Be the first, not the last! Go Jamie! Show them all where the chicken pees from!

Maybe because Chan might actually know the facts of the situation and backs Gold v. those here who think they know the facts and have already judged? Just a thought.

Why is this surprising.

This guy has shown himself to be one of the better tourney players simply by dominating the WSOP ME for 4 days +, how can anyone really be surprised he is dominating another tourney.

The guy must be doing something right.
