winstar vs. choctaw -dallas poker
 

I'm going to head up to either winstar or choctaw this weekend, I've never been to choctaw, but the only reports on it were less than great, but they are all from this spring. Friday night there is some country concert at winstar, so I'm afraid the wait will be atrocious by the time I get there. Is the drive to Choctaw worth it, or should I just stick with one of the local clubs?

Choctaw is all 1/2 NL and 3/6 Limit. I have seen a 2/5 NL once or twice.

They cap the rake at $4 though and the action feels a bit softer than Winstar.

There has been a 2/5 NL game there every time I have been there on the weekends.

They put the 2/5 NL game in a seperate glass "high roller" room.

I've been to both only once, so small sample, but the action was much better at Winstar the day I went. At Choctaw, I was at the tightest 1/2 table on the planet.

thanks guys, any other info? I may stay local friday, and head up to winstar saturday when there is no concert. Of course, drunken cowboys might be mighty fun to play against.

I say let's just get an awesome home game going. We already have four here. I have been looking for decent home games since I jettisoned my old stupid, drunk, call-everything-to-the-river-no-matter-what game.

As far as game tightness, I have seen squeaky tight and out of control loose tables at both places. You just have to table-hop sometimes.

Just came back from Dallas..well Grapevine where I was attending a tradeshow. It took me 1-hour to get from Grapevine to Winstar. Played from 7:00pm - 7:00am Fri/Sat. 2/5 NL the entire time. They have an overflow room which is cold as fu*k. I sat at 3 different tables because my table broke twice. Games were VERY good. When I left at 7:00am on Sat. there were still three 2/5 NL tables and one 5/10 NL table running.

yeah, what is up with the freaking AC in that place, I lost feeling in my hands the last time i was there.

Porters were auctioning off coffee and hot chocolate for $7-$10.



...not really but they would come to the room with a full tray and sell out at the first table.

right before my table broke and they moved the rest of the tables to the main room...they shut off the AC...go figure.

Its on tuesday, but I believe they do still. Havent been in a month or so though. wed/thurs the high hand for every couple hours gets $300 or something and on monday there is a $100 splash pot drawing every hour for a certain amount of hours. Since they went 24 hrs I dont think the promos run all day/night but just for certain hours, although I cant recall what they are.

winstar:
+ good chips
+ great action but ends at 4 am (last time i went, they still weren't 24-hour)
+ 5/10 nlhe
+ higher limit games
+ 18 and up
- long waits at times
- no booze
- crowded and cramped
- "waitresses"(people that bring free dr. pepper and what not) are not attractive

They weren't spreading this when I was there last week, just 4/8 and 6/12. [They may have been spreading 10/20 or higher, I wasn't paying attention to that]

the 5/10 at winstar was for NL

i might have gotten choctaw mixed up with cherokee in tulsa as far as the 18+/booze thing. i didn't get confused on other stuff though
