So where can I smoke and play poker these days?

I'm feeling a need to get away from the computer and go play some live poker. That means a trip; no poker in eastern PA.

I know California is out, I don't want to go to Vegas, don't know what the smoking status is in Atlantic City now. What areas of the country have a selection of poker rooms that allow smoking?

I'm not looking for vacation destinations, just poker.

Re: So where can I smoke and play poker these days?

LOL.

Most of Vegas is non-smoking as well, so good thing you don't want to go there.

WA state is out too - non-tribal cardrooms are non-smoking by law, and most of the tribal rooms are non-smoking by choice.

All of Vegas is non-smoking, except for possibly some obscure hole in the wall.

Arizona Indian casinos allow smoking. I smoked a pack and a half in there one weekend even though I never lit up.

Op said he didn't want Vegas anyways, but here are the smoking rooms that I'm aware of:

Boulder Station
Orleans (3am-7am)
Fiesta Rancho
Fiesta Henderson
Fortune Club
Speedway
Palms (Maybe late at night?)

Gila River in Arizona allows smoking at the table.

In Las Vegas, the following rooms allow it 24/7:

El Cortez
Arizona Charlies West
Boulder Station
Fiesta Rancho
Fiesta Henderson
Jokers Wild
Nevada Palace

The following allow it during graveyard only:

Palace Station
Sunset Station
Orleans

Wish all poker rooms were smoke filled again. Those were the good old days.

Sniped. Combine our lists, and we've got a full one. Thought Palms did away with it altogther?

El Cortez is an expecially classic relic in that they allow cigars and pipes at the table as well. The other rooms only allow cigarettes.

Forgot to mention that Buffalo Bills also allows smoking (it is in Jean,NV, the NV/CA stateline).

Play three or four orbits. Go outside, stretch the legs and burn two cigs. Inhale, post, repeat.

Bally's in AC allowed smoking when I was there a year or so ago. So did the Sandia in Albuquerque, N.M., but that was more like 4 years ago.

I don't know if the rules at either place have changed.

Time to get technical and nitty.

"Primm" is actually not a city, but an honorary name for the area of stateline, after the founder of Primm Vally (formerly Primadonna). Though it is commonly known as Primm to the locals (and is labeled as such on most casino items), the area is in actuality (and formerly mapped) as Jean, NV, which is an actual city.

Much like Summerlin is just a part of Las Vegas, Primm is just a part of Jean.

Ballys still allows smoking when I was there a few weeks ago. I can't imagine that it has changed. I think I was the _only_ non smoker in the joint.

The Hard Rock in Tampa, but not in Hollywood. It can be argued, however, that these places do not offer poker as much as bingo with cards.

Some of the Okie poker rooms allow smoking at the table; for others, you have to walk as many as three feet to the bar before lighting up.

In Reno:

The Eldorado you can smoke after 2am. Kinda funny how everyone lights up at once at 2. (best room in town, but rarely anything higher than 4/8. Some 10/20 occasionally on weekends)

Cal Neva allows smoking all the time but is a dump and the games are mostly 3/6 or spread limit.

Hi LVM & Photoc,

The Orleans did away with smoking on graveyard about a year or so back.

Best Wishes

Re: So where can I smoke and play poker these days?

Thanks for the info so far, guys. I lived in Vegas for over 20 years and have played at most of those places and worked in many of them.

The Florida ultra low limit bingo games aren't what I'm looking for – I think Colorado might be about the same, yes? no?

Are there poker rooms in MD or is that just a game or two in bar?

How about Tunica? I've never been there.

Oddly enough, I'm back home for 6 years now, a PA native who spent twenty some years in Vegas and I've never been to AC. Might have to check out Bally's; I thought every place there had gone no smoking.

Any other areas where there is somewhat of a concentration of poker? I'd prefer somewhere with at least a bit of a choice since it will involve travel to get there.

Re: So where can I smoke and play poker these days?

Bally's is kinda of a sh!thole. I played there one night (I was a smoker then) and it took a long time to get drinks and the surroundings weren't all that hot.

Anyway, smoking at the table is overrated. It's better just to get up and go out in the casino or outdoors to smoke.

At Casino San Pablo in the East Bay (California) you can't smoke at the tables, but they do allow smoking in the casino, which means you will have to get up from the table, but only have to walk 5 to 20 feet away to smoke, not go all the way outside. Given the smoking laws around here, I was shocked when I found this out.

Almost two years ago.

Sam's Town was the most recent one to go non smoking in November of 2005 (and a lot of the customers left to play at Boulder Station instead). El COrtez is the only smoking room left downtown.

TylerD -- Any excuse for a trip to Amsterdam is fine with me. Are there any limit games? I'm dead money at pot limit.

I think there is some poker around Toronto, right? Anybody know the smoking status in Canada?

What's the situation in New Orleans and Biloxi these days?

Holland Casino in Amsterdam spreads 10/20 limit Hold 'Em, but the rake is high, 5% up to 10.
