What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
Havent heard about him in quite a while. He used to update his blog semi-regularly but has since stopped doing so...
I think he went deep in Tunica back in May or something like that... any recent news or gossip on my favorite poker pro? For some reason I seem to recall hearing grumblings of retirement... |
Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
Must be BUSTO!!!!!

Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
We interviewed Josh late in the series on Bluff radio. He seemed to be in decent spirits for what its worth.
|
Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
I was just looking at his hendon mob page which is pretty meh for a tournament player and saw he only had one cash at the 05 wsop and that was a bracelet.
I guess he either goes deep in tournaments or busts out pretty early. |
Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
i saw him on the PPT, acting like his typical douchey ways. Good to see he's changed.

any recent news or gossip on my favorite poker pro? [/ QUOTE ] He had a pretty quiet '06 WSOP (one small cash), though he will be featured in the Prop Bet segment along with Gavin Smith and RW III. |
Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
I believe he was on the circuit during the WSOP (I hope I haven't gotten him confused with someone else) and he said he'd lost all confidence in his game, and was flailing around trying different strategies to fix it.
Also that not only had he not made the money in any WSOP event but something ridiculous like not making the ante level in any event (maybe it was something slightly less ridiculous like not making it out of the first day, but I think it might have been not making the ante's). Somebody correct me if that was a different "name" pro. --Zetack |

Gotta love how so many pros think they are immune to variance.

He made the all-to-common dive into feetporn

Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
The long term for high stakes live cash game players is very, very, very long. If they are playing 20 hands an hour, 8 hours a day, that is basically less than what most online players go through in 30 minutes. The long term for online players is considered to be upwards of 100k hands typically, a number than a live play can take a year to hit. It is not odd than a live cash game player can run bad for a year, or run well for a year. Not saying this is the case with Arieh, but it seems that people are all too results oriented with live players.

Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
There was an article at Poker News mentioning him the other day, claiming he won something like a record 14 heads-up matches in a row for one their promotional tourneys. You know, one of those things where the top tourney player for the week gets to play him for some amount of money. Not sure if this actually nets Arieh anything though; may just be part of his contract for this site. He also won the Bodog invitational tourney that was televised on Fox a few months back. Not sure when that actually took place though. Winner took home a million, or half million, or something like that, along with a motorcycle. |
Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
However, a top live game player has a much bigger edge than a top onine player. Seeing your opponent and having the opportunity to take advantage of their tells adds a lot to your edge. This means you will get into the long run a bit faster. However, half a year of running bad is still a LONG time, lol.

Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
didnt he place close to the top at WSOP? who in the world knows how good/bad he is at poker. once someone wins millions, they can become a tourney pro, get a ton of endorsment money and just hang around like a throw rug. i would be skeptical of any "Pro" who became famous after a big tourney win.

Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
FWIW, I played with Josh at Beau Rivage on Labor Day weekend. We were playing 10-25 PLO with a mandatory $50 Mississippi straddle (i.e. - a straddle on the button). He later moved to a 25-50 PLO game with a $100 MS straddle. Maybe these games are not considered as "high stakes" for a professional like him, but I thought it was a pretty big game. He bought in for $10K (I thought it was a $10K chip, but I am not certain). I never talked to him, but he seemed to be in good spirits. I did notice that he was very friendly and respectful to both the dealers and the floormen.

Josh won the freeroll Bodog Reality Show Tournament on FoxSportsNet about 5 or 6 months ago and cashed for $500k. Maybe he's been busy spending that! :-)

But these guys can go through that kind of money faster than you might think. Go on FullTilt and watch a handful of people win/lose that amount in a few hours. |

[/ QUOTE ] how can this guy be your favorite pro? Arieh has to be the most obnoxious player to ever appear on TV. His constant belittling of opponents was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen. When Tony G does it we know it is part act, not that that makes it much better. Hellmuth insulting that guy on national TV wasn't much better either. I'm referring to the "you probably can't even spell poker..." guy. Makes no sense to me how anyone can like this guy. |
Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
he plays 10/20nl and plo on bodog semi-frequently.

Re: What\'s up with Josh Arieh Lately?
He had an outburst, he apologized to that guy later. Being in the main event can be (from what I been told) very, very, very stressful.

[/ QUOTE ] no, it was much more than the harry demetriou incident. there was at least 5 instances of him berating an opponent. off the top of my head i remember him berating the math guy when arieh had ace/king and the other guy called with pocket jacks. an ace or king flopped but a four flush on board gave the math guy the pot. he was instantly berated by arieh for calling the all in. and that's pretty much how it went with several other opponents. arieh is a first class prick. |
