Not getting sick

So on about the 20th of December I got sick and stayed sick till about the 5th of January, I then got sick this monday and am currently still sick. Both times I had a bad cough/cold.

Anyways, what do you guys do to prevent yourselves from getting sick?

California has been pounded with flu and viruses this year. Not much you can do, move to Wyoming or something.

I sleep 4 hours night, never wash my hands, drink like a fish, and eat like crap. I haven't been sick in years. Maybe I just trained my immune system well when I was younger?

"1 and done" is the key. Look in recent threads if you don't understand that.

This is me too, I think all of these things have just made your immune system stronger. I think they should take some of my T cells and give them to AIDS patients. Have 'em back in the saddle in no time.

Us too. My friend and I came up with an all-out assault package that seems to work:

- vitamin C
- oil of oregano caps
- garlic caps
- grapefruit seed extract

also drink lots of water, get plenty of rest, and eat as much green chile (LOTS of C) as you can. GL

See, a double benefit. And the green chile keeps you isolated in the bathroom for hours on end. It's great.

Changing my clothes more than once every 12 days or whatever probably helps.

Seriously though, you're always ahead when you don't do stupid stuff that interferes with your body's ability to stay healthy.

Get enough rest, most of all. Give your filtration organs a break from booze. Don't eat too much sugar, because it messes up your energy cycle and suppresses immune response. Eat enough, and eat right. Avoid OOT threads about which fastfood barfburger to stuff your colon with and treat your body the way an adult treats it -- an adult past the overgrown kid stage. Get out and move around a bit; your body wants it and it's good for the spirit. Try not to stress about too much stuff, as that's really bad for you in a lot of ways.

Ranked in order of perceived importance

-get enough sleep
-stay very HYDRATED. This one is very important. Whenever you go to the doctor with a cold/flu, they will always say drink plenty of fluids for a reason. It really helps strengthen the immune system.
- less stress
-eat healthier, make sure to eat lots of fruits/vegetables to get vitamins. Maybe a vitamin pill or some cod oil. Dunno how effective tehy are.
-get excercise regularly (2-3 times a week)
- take it easy on caffeine, booz or other drugs. I think the main reason they are bad for you is because they are diuretics and cause you to become dehydrated.
-Wash hands/avoid sick people

I don't know how important these all are, but I am pretty sure they have some role in keeping your immune system healthy

You can also get a flu shot at the beginning of flu season... my dad's been doing this for years and he hasn't gotten sick almost at all during that time.. and if he did, it was just minor sniffles for a day or two...

Don't go outside.

Or, wash your hands before you touch something that goes in your mouth nose or eyes. You don't have to be all OCD, just wash up before eating, don't stick finger in eye etc.

There is a product called "Airborne" which is supposed to be good for preventing colds.

Most of the stuff in here is good, wash hands, good sleep etc. Also, doing yoga helps out alot against these kinds of things. My brother has been doing it for like 10 years and very rarely gets sick, he says everytime he feels a little "down" or whatever he does yoga and gets better very fast. He's taught me some but usually when I'm feeling a little sick I just wanna sleep it off instead, although I tried it a few weeks ago when I had a soar throat and felt better immediatly afterwards. I dunno, probably works great if you do it semi-regularly.

I got one because my company (an HMO) gives them free. I was immediately sick for a week. Since, I have been sick for a total of about three weeks. [censored] pointless. I will skip this excercise next year.

Yeah, everyone in my house started getting sick, and I started popping these, eating chicken soup, and cleaning everything possibly germ-infected in my room (doorknobs, etc). I felt like crap for about 10 hours, but overall managed to not get sick.

This is terrible advice. One of the reasons sickness is passed around more in winter is because people tend to stay in confined spaces with other people and pass germs around.
Outside is fine.

Wash Hands before eating, rubbing eyes, smoking, etc.

Drink one glass of OJ every morning (thats all the Vit. C your body needs. Anything more just gets pissed out anyway)

Drink up to a half gallon of water each day.

Get plenty of sleep.

Exercise is great for the immune system, as well as helping you sleep more.

I take Airborne at the start of any sniffle, and it keeps it down to like a day or two if you follow the directions.
