\"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/8) (5-5 NL)

Unfortunately, due to their being a rebuy tournament over at Commerce, and the absence of both Corp. Mike and Mom, tonight' s game will only be a 5-5 blind, $300 min, $500 max game. According to what Bart said, there's plenty of new faces at thet able, so it may get interesting. Hopefully last night's 100-200 game will appear again next week, as it helps infuse the game with some new faces and new people interested in the program. The other stuff that happened seems to have been taken care of to everyone's satisfaction (hopefully). As usual, you can catch the show at www.liveatthebike.com starting at 10pm ET. For those having trouble with the stream or accessing the show, try to send correspondence to [email protected] . I'm not feeling too great so probably will try to follow the thread from time to time to see how it's going.

Edit: David Tuchman will be playing for a while in thisg ame to start, then enter the commentary booth. He'll be out all next week as he does his HSP UK gig in London.

Me and a Friend of mine are going to LA next week, I plan on playing Wednesday so watch out for me. If you read this Bart can you tell me when the best time to sign up would be?

For Wednesday and Friday games you need to call Mo. He is the host. If you PM me, I'll give you his number.

The Eli on today's show reminds me of the Eli on High Stakes Poker. Maybe all Eli's play the same?

The last time this question was asked there was alot of derisive laughter: Are there any good hotels around the Bicycle Casino? I plan to be in the area around October.

The Wyndham is nice and it's only about 3 miles from The Bike. The nicest hotel that is close to The Bike could cost a few more "dollars/hour" but at least those are the one's that come with clean sheets. Stick with the hotels that quote you nightly rates. LOL

I tried a Brian Tooshman move the other night - the mighty "miniraise" on the button. Everyone of the limpers was a confirmed idiot except for a guy who had just sat down that round. He was a neatly dressed, mild mannered looking guy in his 50's or 60's. He limp-reraised all-in from UTG. He got a caller, and I folded. He won with pocket jacks. I would have hit the flop and won with two pair.

Well, if you are flying in, I like to fly into John Wayne Airport, stay at the Four Seasons in Newport, do a little shopping at Fashion Island and rent a car and drive to The Bike. Bell Gardens is a $hit hole. And that is actually a quote from the Bells Gardens Chamber of Commerce.

That's the thing about calling river bluffs great play - more often than not the point is what's he doing there. To me it's like rewarding a dog for not pissing on the carpet - I mean great it doesn't piss on the carpet - not sure it deserves anything for it - fine, jump up and and catch a ball and you'll get a biscuit.

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/8) (5-5 NL)

I actually won quite a lot in that session.

The neatly dressed guy and I had a conversation after the game broke up. (We were the only winners.) He said he had been playing for a long time, but he learned NL hold'em online. Two old dogs taught the puppies some tricks.

Hey all. I have only watched for a short bit, as I am heading out to dinner, but is Pajama-boy the worse fing player ever? There is no hand he does not limp or smooth call a raise with out of position!

Have a good evening all.

Jive Dadson 09-08-2006 10:48 PM

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/8) (5-5 NL)

I wish I could answer your question Bart, but I can't. I had many pages of tables memorized for my baseline strategy. I have forgotten it all, lost the tables, and loaned out the book I based the tables on to someone who will probably never return it.

But of course the answer would depend on the stack sizes, the size of the pot, and prior action.

My point is Bart to be convinced that his play was OK there I'd want to see ANOTHER decent play from him before I'll give him the benfit of the doubt on that river bluff.

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/8) (5-5 NL)

Oh one more thing. There is no "right play" in a vacuum. What I developed was an approximate optimal strategy. All the plays have to fit together. It's based on game theory, which is not the same thing as simple probabilities.

In the situation you give, the all-in raise before the draw, here's how you figure it:

You enumerate all the "real" hands you would have played as the hand has gone so far. You then calculate the odds the play is laying the potential bluffer. You call with the top fraction of your possible hands that makes the opponent's EV for a bluff exactly zero.

I hope that made sense.

Both Barry Greenstien and Bart's hero the other night have hinted at this kind of stuff, but they are not too keen on letting the cat out of the bag.

I hate to be so unoriginal but the best poker movie, IMO is Rounders...it's one of the only ones that is at all legitimate.

Shade has some sick card tricks at the beginning, but it's possibly the most disgusting portrayal of the poker world I've ever seen.

Best Poker Movie
tie The Cinnci Kid & Rounders

Worst Poker Movie
The Big Blind

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/8) (5-5 NL)

If there has ever been a great poker movie, I never heard of it. Cincinatti Kid was very good until they ruined it with that ridiculous heads up match. Not only was the last hand absurd, I think I remember that they played the game without antes. No one would ever bring it in without the nuts. Then his opponent would fold.

I liked Worm at lot. The Russian guy (Malkavich) was kind of over-the-top but fun. Beyond that, it was a big yawn.

Yes I never said it was a fantastic movie, certainly not one of my favorite movies but poker movies, as you pointed out, tend to be fairly crappy.

So you base everything off of tuchmans poker career? He's said hes never run into a situation where hes felt the need to fold pocket kings, IE he could do it if he felt it was neccessary or the situation called for it...

Why bother giving all those players suited diamonds if you're not going to put a couple of diamonds on the flop?

Live poker needs more rigging.

DougieG 09-08-2006 11:14 PM

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/8) (5-5 NL)

And actually if you read around on the SSNL forum in the "the Well" Q&A sessions I believe Aba said that there are very few people he would fold KK to preflop in the big games, it could have been someone else in The Well but I am pretty sure even online it's not as common as you make it seem boondoggle.
