AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I can't stand it anymore. I decided to give the PPT final table one last try but how can anyone enjoy this show with Seif and the other guy constantly telling us how great the PPT is on every single friggin card to be drawn. For the first time ever I actually muted the sound on a tourney but I wanted to hear Daniel's and Eric's banter.
Mark Seif (and the other guy): STFU!!!!! |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
Stop whining like a woman. Just like any good tv host they are promoting the product they are a part of.
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I DVR it and skip past all the intros/outros and just get to the hands. MUCH more enjoyable that way.
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
and his co-host: "Remember, these are professionals. Do not try this at home!!"
Seif: "Hahahahaha" .... |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I watched a little tonight and have to agree they make Mike Sexton and VVP look great. in all honesty tho, I dont care for either program anymore. HSP is where its at.
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I didn't listen to much of the commentary, but there was one comment one of them made which was completely result orientated. On the hand with Eric's K 10 vs A Q on the A K 10 flop. I don't remember the exact action because i was doing other things, but I know Eric didn't reraise, The turn was an A and Eric folded to his bet. Then one of them said something like "alot of people would have re raised on the flop, and if they did they would be out the door".
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
They are so terrible. I can't even watch this show.
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
Poker is probably the sport/subject with the worst TV production & commentators in the history of Television.
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
They don't bother me at all. Like others have said they are there to promote a product. Heck even the players are doing it.
Lindgren talks about how it is a huge deal to be there. I forget his words but it was smart. Playing in a freeroll and trying to pump it up. IMHO, You can tell it isn't very important to the players. They're all goofing off and (some) are playing a lot looser. |

At that moment I turned to my wife and went on a tirade about how check/raising there would have been fine. Raise enough and you may even blast him off his hand. The fact is, I think Lindgren misplayed the flop. I liked the check, Bigler is aggressive and would usually bet, which he did. But then just calling? He needed to define his hand right there and find out where he's at. Check/raise and see what happens. You will find out really quickly whether Bigler has AA/KK/AK/A10 or just something like AQ/AJ. Now I do understand that Lindgren may have been waiting for the turn to go nuts on Bigler if a blank came. Then when the Ace fell and Bigler bet, he knew he was sunk. He had to have Bigler on at least AQ/AJ. I just don't agree with the play, I personally feel popping the flop here would have been right. Seif saying that he played it correctly because the Ace fell on the turn and other players woulda been out the door is just horrific. |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
far too much results-oriented analysis. seif will comment on hands where any reasonably intelligent person would fold and he'll say, "now, i'd call there for sure." fast forward to a similar scenario: "he's just GOTTA know his opponent has TENS!"
overall it doesn't bother me too much but the repeated football analogies and (pot's been raised by a LAG, nit reraises, third player folds KJs) "i'd call that all day long" type stuff can wear thin after about 6.4 minutes. it sorta distracts me from the poker, because i wanna hear some of the table-talk but it's usually drowned out by the announcers mentioning, yet again, how this is the PPT, everyone wants to win it, best of the best, etc |

Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
Maybe it's Seif's playing saying "I WANNA PLAY! I WANNA PLAY!"
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
The commentary on PPT is so overbearing and obnoxious that I no longer watch. The whole show is like a commercial for itself.

Maybe it's Seif's playing saying "I WANNA PLAY! I WANNA PLAY!" [/ QUOTE ] Thats one of the funniest aspects of the PPT- That Seif wasn't invited. This tournament had 180 players, as much as I don't like Seif, he's probably one of the top 180 tournament players. (definately more deserving of being there than Mimi Rodgers or Jan Fisher) |

I would say he looked at it as a chance to do something that will maybe get him a job in the future. As well as maybe he got paid enough doing that where it was better than doing what everyone else wanted. Which we all know was "to be one of the first PPT champions ever"! |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
"The players want to win this so bad, they'll do anything to win!"
"They want it so bad they can taste it!" "There isn't anyone out there who doesn't want to be the first PPT champion." - except Mark Seif who wisely would rather commentate. |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I tried to play a drinking game with this last night. Every time they say "tournament life," do a shot. I am now posting this from the hospital, recovering from severe alcohol poisoning.
|
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
seif seems to always have a problem with someone folding Kx suited after a raise and reraise. He needs to realize that his maniac style isnt the standard, these guys make me miss sexton/vvp.
I will say that the electric guitar riffs in between segments are hilariously bad. |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
Think there is any chance when and if season two starts, they will replace the announcers a la Courtney Friel??
They have got to be everyone's biggest gripe of the show (aside from the first tournament not showing the last 6-8 people busting before the final table) |

The amounts are so small right now (relative to other major tourneys) that the pro's who are all on a freeroll aren't playing their best and they certainly don't care that much if they win. According to Seif (and the other guy), the winners will consider it the greatest win of their lives. Hilarious. Does anyone think that Lingren or Juanda will give a rats ass about their wins 2 years from now?If you can get enough advertising money then go for the really big bucks and now you can call yourself a tourney worth winning. |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
why would they want to be invited to a tourney that only pays 3% of the field...if they wanna do that, they should make it 10% minimum and the winner at least a mil. thatll get the ratings up at least.

Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I used to enjoy the show somewhat, but now I can barely stand it. The commentators are a joke and I wish they would stop using the phrase, "the best of the best." True, a lot of them are the best of the best, but I really doubt they're even taking the tournament THAT seriously. The prize pool is a joke and a lot of them probably aren't playing their best as a result. Just trying to get lucky and ahead early so they don't waste their time. I may be wrong about that though. It *is* a freeroll, I realize that, but I think they should consider making the prize pool maybe just a tad nicer. Can they just not afford it, or what? I don't understand see why they won't bump it up a bit. I almost wish that I didn't see the post here about the fake clapping. I didn't even notice it until someone mentioned it, and now it just drives me crazy. The final table was even worse because it wasn't just clapping when someone got eliminated, but clapping after like *every<* move a player made, and all of this fake hooting and hollering...all the while you can see the entire audience stone-faced and motionless.
Although it's been less the past few episodes, next time I hear Mark go crazy over seeing suited connectors ("OMG! I LOVE THIS HAND! I WOULD DEFINITELY PLAY THAT HAND! YOU KNOW HOW I JUST LOOOOVE SUITED CONNECTORS!") I'll probably turn it off for good... Oh, and I can't STAND Chris Bigler. I don't know what it is about him, but I really hope I don't see him on tv again any time soon-.- |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I can understand the announcers selling a product, but these two are going way over the top in using the Infomercial Dialect. Less would be a lot more.
But when they talk poker and not about the damn title, the strategy and graphics aren't bad. Not perfect, but it's at least getting the viewer into the strategy and not the spectacle of sucking out. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I haven't seen but 15 minutes of this show ever, but I'd say what Seif is getting paid for commentating is probably more then the equity in it. Also add in the fact theres 0 variance involved, and it's probably a better way for him to promote his name, and I'd probably do the same. Who knows Absolute might have paid him some to be a commenter on there. |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I actually like watching tourney poker that involves more then coin flip all ins. I can't stand the announcers either but it's the best tourney poker play on tv imo.

It's a shame because I'm sure Seif could give a lot of insightful commentary on strategy, but instead he and the other guy feel compelled to fill the airtime with nuggets like "they all want to win this one" "nobody here wants to lose" and other breathless intonations that mean absolutely zippo. Unbearable. |
Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
I wish Seif would talk more. Listening to him say that Daniel limped with A6o "to disguise the strength of his hand" is comedy gold, baby. Gold.

Re: AAAAAHHHHH! Would someone shut Mark Seif Up?
My biggest pet peeve about the show is their penchant to go commercial in the middle of a hand, sometimes even in the middle of action on a particular street. The most egregious example was the "first quarter" coverage of the Commerce event. David Opponheim was in the middle of a pot with another player, in position, and it was checked to him - and *then* they went to commercial. Holy False Drama Batman...
