bought a used TV and the picture is blurry

I just bought a used Phillips 32" flat screen TV for $300.

I turned it on for a little at the guy's house before buying it, and it seemed ok, a little blurry, but I assumed that it was because it wasn't hooked up to a cable. Because the tv itself looked very new and clean, I assumed the picture would also look fine.

now that I've lugged it home, however, everything is still blurry. I don't have cable, but I plugged my gamecube into it and it is really not acceptable, it's too blurry.

Is there some setting I'm supposed to change? Are phillips TVs always blurry? Was this TV dropped? I'm gonna try to plug in a dvd player, but I haven't yet.

But still, WTF??

a regular NTSC signal isn't going to look very good on an LCD no matter what. what do you mean by "blurry"?

Like, when I put a dvd on, it's difficult to read the credits.

Yeah pretty much.

I just assumed it was blurry because it wasn't connected to a cable. I've never bought a used tv before, I didn't realize it was possible to get screwed.

The fact that they let you test it means you weren't screwed by anyone but yourself, my friend.

Did you at least ASK them why it was blurry?

Not if he can find someone like himself who will test it, see it's blurry, and still buy it.

Is that a real recipt? Did you pay $22 for those items?

Re: bought a used TV and the picture is blurry

Bro, unless you can prove the picture was blurry before you left the house, I doubt your chances of success unless you hire a Johnny Cochrin reincarnate. I hope the pic is clear enough to enjoy watching it, and now you have a good story to tell les jeunes filles who come over to watch DVD's at your apartment.

Your $300 is gone. Chalk it up to experience.

There is a possibility that this was a troll posting. The sentence "I didn't realize it was possible to get screwed when buying a used TV" is very suspect.

I'm surprised others haven't posed this theory yet.

Trip Report:

FU all. I called up the seller this morning and told him the tv was unacceptable, and that I was returning it. I dropped it off, got my money back, and bought a different used tv (which I thoroughly inspected prior to purchase).

now i am watching football with a crisp 36" picture, and life is good.

I know it's not on topic, but geezus! That guy bought a case of cauliflower. What the hell do you do with an entire case of that godawful sewage smelling crap!?

Back on topic. I know a guy who had his tv cleaned out really well and the picture improved dramatically. Dust and stuff builds up in there and interferes with...stuff...I guess. I really don't know, but if you pull off the case and really hit it with some canned air, it might help. Can't hurt - unless you don't unplug it first.
