Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
Hi all,
Currently the idea of a SNG leaderboard is being thrown around in house at Stars, however, during our talks we have come across a quandry in that we feel some players would not like to sacrifice their anonymity for the prizes associated with the leaderboard. My simple question is; how many serious SNG players would opt out of publicly being listed on such a leaderboard? A simply yes or no will be suffice or more elaborate thoughts are also welcome as well. As always any other suggestions and what not can also go here. Thank you in advance. ~Justin |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
make leaderboard pls. i wouldn't care about the 'publicity'.

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
If your going to do this, it would be great if you could make it based on skill as opposed to volume.
|
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
If you play at a particular level during the same time everyday most of your oponents will now who you are anyway...

Or do you propose some kind of complicated formula that takes into account standard deviations based on your volume played and what your actual results were? Somehow I doubt that will be great promotional material. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I wouldn't care about the publicity.
In fact the only reason I play PP instead of Pokerstars is the fact that I can get $$ from the leaderboard at PP. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
yes plz dooooo it ty
plus, people can also check the leaderboard on sharkscope regardless if the player wants to stay anonymous. Proly the best idea would be to count just straight up VIP points accumulated from SNGs? Just a thought |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
yeah do it :/
|
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I dont know how it would be done, i just gave a suggestion like jurollo asked.
Partys leaderboard is dominated by the players who play the most volume and it isnt nessesarily based on how good you are, just how many tables you can simultanously play, and for how long. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
yay more money for me. do it!

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
Sounds like it would be fun, and make guys a little more juiced up to play more and play better, which is cool. I doubt there are too many successful sng players who are running along under the radar in the games that they play, so avoiding anonynimity (wtf sp?) I don't think really matters.

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
Sounds like a great idea to me.

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
picking up broads by telling them that you are in the Top 10 tourney players on PokerStars is teh nuts
|
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
this would be a good idea. just have something for the guys in last place like consolation door prizes or something.
|
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I don't care about the anonymity part.
Stars BADLY needs a leaderboard for SNGs to get some fishies in there playing (not to mention reward the SNGers who make them a killing in rake). Kudos to them for finally doing this. |

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I should also note that there was a thread in STTF several months ago about suggestions for how they could implement it. Maybe you can use your mod skills to find it? I started the thread if that helps.

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
For starters they should have it so that finishing 1st,2nd or 3rd gets points instead of only 1st or 2nd!
|
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I have not read all of this so I would like to preface with that. Howevere, if no one has mentioned it before there is a pretty good (although fairly small) leaderboard already on sharkscope plus c'mon all of us rregulars know who the good players are already anyway.
I guess my thing is I don't really care much...... unless they are planning on making the prizes that good that it would inspire me to actually try to win somethihng. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
yeah, definetly do this
|
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
Sounds fun to me.
With Sharkscope.com out there, nobody has any anonymity anyway. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
You can request anonimity at Sharkscope...
As for a Stars SnG leaderboard - [censored] yeah! Finally. I would not care about my nickname being publicly known as the sharkiest either. I also hope that there'd be incentive to gun for top spots no matter what stakes you play. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
sounds like a good idea - i don't care about anonymity (just money). i also agree with curtains - top three getting points is better than top two.
|
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I like the idea. I also agree with Lucky Irishman & curtains - give points to the top 3.

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I would opt out for fear of it being misleading. I sometimes let people I back or train play my account and I imagine that the leaderboard is meant to be a contest of individual achievements.
I also imagine that if there is any significant prize offered for this then people with dishonest intent may be tempted to have people play their accounts 24 hours a day. As the well publicized august tlb bet from last eyar showed, having alot on the line brings out the worst in some people. I think they should offer a non monetary award of some kind. sheets |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I think this is definately required at Stars and is a great idea. Obviously basing points on top 3 is a must as well, as curtains said.
However, Sheetsworld also raises a good point about multi players on an account, and i can't think of a way around this |

It just makes it less likely you will win this new prize. Also it's possible that these players will be disqualified. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
Another note: Stars could do it like half volume based and half results based. I guess I mean they could set it up so you lose points if you do poorly. I'm not sure what the best ratio is though or whether thats even a good idea from a business standpoint.

[/ QUOTE ] curtains, yes, i think that a few bright people should be able to come up with a way of making a system that actually shows something like sng skill or whatever. stars can decide if they want to have it be something close to "money won by playing sngs" or if they want it to be just a point accumulaton (which wouldn't gaurantee that a losing player doesn't win), or some other method of some sort. personally i dno, i mean, i think that a player who plays 5000 $200 sngs and makes like 20k should like, lose to a player who plays 5000 $10 sngs and wins $20k, etc, and i think that it would take me about 1/2 an hour or less to come up with a good formula for point distribution once presented with a few "rules" like: 1) same stakes, more profit, fewer games, wins 2) lower stakes more profit, same games, wins etc so i don't think stars should have a problem generating a system, regardless of if they want to make it competitive to party's (which of course is great for the cardroom because it inspires people to play 3k games in a month), or if they want some hybrid that is less volume based. i guess my point is that any system should take into account volume, but not make it the determining factor above say, winning money. citanul |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
would heads up sngs count? what about 90/180 person sngs? it seems like both should.
i think sheets brought up a reasonable point, but like curtains said, i dont think it will be an issue since stars can dq someone rather easily. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I would LOVE a stars sng leaderboard. When would it start?

Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
Why should a good player be favored?
It's the bad players that need the extra money most Well, anyway, the good players is favored at PP cause you have to finish 1st or 2nd so a player with less games and more 1st and 2nd can finish better than a bad player with loads of games. Also the points is good at PP cause you can grind the $11 or $22 and still get 1st. It would be totally useless if only top $530 sng players could finish 1st... I mean $5500 feels lika a million to me and I doubt it feels like that for a $530 player. |
Re: Stars SNG Leaderboard Questions
I think that Pokerstars, in the interest of rake generation, will likely reward volume.
(Not that there's anything wrong with that) sheets |

some players would not like to sacrifice their anonymity for the prizes associated with the leaderboard. [/ QUOTE ] Is this anonymity as in: player Bladebla played 60,000 $27's this month or player Bladebla (Freddy Finkelstein) has 160 leaderboard points this month? Is it revealing the real name or just the ID? |
