Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
The Oakland Raiders are so worried about Aaron Brooks as their QB that they signed Jeff George (38) to be put on their roster. He has not played in an NFL game since 2001.
Personally, I am speechless. Maybe Doug Flutie can come out of retirement too. |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
This move makes zero sense.

Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
"Did you hear the Raiders signed Jeff George?" is a straightline for "What? Ryan Leaf/Marc Wilson/etc wasn't available?" Weekend at Al's.

Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
signing brooks and not drafting Leinart was beyond terrible, although Al Davis is old and Brooks is good for 1 awesome performance in 5 (the other 4 being terrible.)

Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
I am just happy as a Tecmo Super Bowl fan that there are now 3 players on NFL rosters who were featured in the legendary game.
I am sure JoA knows the other two. |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
i saw this on the espn ticker at the bottom of the screen during the a's/sox game and it took me a while to register who jeff george was and then i was like "what the [censored]? didn't he retire like 5 years ago?"
if the raiders think this is going to help their team, they are in a lot of trouble... |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
I never saw Jeff George's last game, but oh boy, did I hear about it.
I forget the teams, but somebody was blitzing the hell out of George, and he was getting hammered every play. His face was 100% fear. Bill Simmons still makes references to the Jeff George Face. He kept dropping snaps because he was on his heels, pulling away from the center before getting the ball. He was scared poop-less. He was summarily benched, cut, and retired, all within a week, pretty much. Get the fork, he was D-U-N. And this was 100 years ago. |

zomglolz @ the raiders

This move makes zero sense and I can't see why the Raiders couldn't come up with someone else to fill in the gap here. After watching Cliff Kingsbury play last year for the Jets (their 5th string quarterback) I guess there just aren't a ton of quality backups out there though. |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
the chargers just released aj feeley. he's gotta be better than george, right?

This is awesome. He'll be starting by week 6, book it. [/ QUOTE ] If my draft starts going bad on Saturday, I will pick up Jeff George for this very reason. I can't imagine a more fun guy to have on your team if your fantasy team completely blows. |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
The humor here is that the over/under on his final QB rating this year has got to be right around 38 as well.

Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
Sweet. I hope the Raiders tank this season and get Brady Quinn.

Corey Dillon is only 32 or something and I know that B. Favre came into the league one year after D. Bledsoe. |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
On a side note, did anyone see Al Davis when he was inducting John Madden at the Hall of Fame? His mind was still sharp, but his body was quite frail, and he now uses a walker. The Al Davis area might be in its final run. If I were the Raiders, I would try to see if they could maybe get unhappy Billy Volek from the Tenn. Titans.

Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
ugh...this is kind of embarrassing
I hate to see George go out this way He is the best college quarterback I have ever seen in person (didn't see Peyton...sry). It's a shame this is going to further tarnish that image. |

Whatever he does in Oakland couldn't look much worse than getting [censored] over by Schottenheimer and ran out of town. I don't see why coming back would be a bad thing either. Most idiots already have a bad image about the guy anyway. |

With Deion Sanders' retirement, Jeff George is the last position player left and the only one in the AFC. |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
You guy are looking at this all wrong. Even with 5 years of rust he is likely going to be better than Aaron Brooks.
|
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
George was a backup for the Bears a couple of years ago
His last stint wasn't with Redskins |
Re: Jeff George, go and brush your shoulders off
I'm pretty sure the Raiders only did this so at least one media personality -- Jason Whitlock -- will proclaim them preseason Super Bowl favorites.

Don't hate on Jeff George. When the Bears signed him last year, I thought, "finally, this is probably the best Bears quarterback of the last five years."

They'll probably re-sign him after week 1.

Ah [censored] - good catch. Seau was in TSB - he was also surprisingly bad.
