Trouble w/ parents i need that famous oot wisdom

I have never had a good relationship with my parents because they are rednecks and I am generation x and see very differently than they do. My childhood was kind of shakey. My father was an alcoholic turned rehabilitated christian and my mother once worked as a stripper. Throughout grade school, my Mom would tell my friends how she used to strip until she found Jesus.

I of course, became educated and realized that all Christians are idiots. This was around the first year of high school. This created a very confrontational home setting. My parents would sometimes threathen to kick me out of the house.

This afternoon, I was about to score with a freshman chick and my Mom knows so she just keeps knocking on my door asking if we want cookies, does Sherry want to call her parents and tell them where she is (its 4:30 pm) and
she knocks on the door to ask if Sherry goes to church. WTF? After this I just couldnt help myself. I ironically told her, "No Mom, Sherry is a buddhist. I guess she is going to burn in hell. Now please leave us alone so we can [censored]." After that I slammed the door in her face. Sherry was obviously shaken and I knew that I was no longer getting laid. So I just tell her to go home. My Dad always has perfect timing and he gets home as she walks out the door. He fixs roofs when he isnt praying to Jesus.

My Mom tells him what happens while I stay in my room listening to Tool trying to perserve any sense of dignity or individuality. He opens the door, despite it being locked, and wants to know what happened. I tell him bluntly, "I am a Nihilist".

He says what is that, and starts giving me a speech, mostly jibberish. I must have told him six times that I was a nihilist. Finally, I took the Webster's Dictionary off of the shelf and opened it to the N section, and I ripped out the page that contained Nihilism. I told him to read this since he was so stupid.

He took of his belt and looks like he wanted to hit me (he did when I was a kid), but he then refrained himself and just left my room. I went back to listening to Tool. We havent spoke since. I dont know what to do.

I think your mom's attempts to bring you cookies was just an attempt to get in on the action.

how old are you?

do you still live with your parents?

I assume young, and yes.

If that is the case, try to be your own person, but while still showing respect toward your parents.

Re: Trouble w/ parents i need that famous oot wisdom

This sounds like it could be fake, but if not, allow me to explain why you are inadvertently leading your parents to understand you less while making your life harder. Your parents are very unlikely to alter their religious views, so why waste your energy to change them? If you do legitimately believe that you can change their views, you are going about it in the worse possible way. You are younger than them, so by default they will assume your ways of thinking are immature and incorrect. Condescending them and telling them that they are stupid is conventional teenage behavior and will be naturally construed by them as such. You don't believe that morality exists, and neither do I. Why not use your intelligence to deceive your parents and lead them to believe that you are civil and obedient so they leave you alone until you move out?

Calling yourself a Nihilist and ripping out the page from the dictionary in order to inform your dad of it's meaning . . . f*cking rad, man!

Get over yourself. All Christians are idiots? Must be nice to be 17 and have all the mysteries of life figured out. I also hope the nihilist bit was a joke to get under their skin. Replacing one crazy belief system with another even crazier one...classic. Anybody up for a 20 year prop bet on whether this guy is out preaching for Jesus on a street corner in the future.

Are serious replies allowed in OOT?

It doesn't sound like you have it all that bad! So you're mom didn't want getting down with the hottie, most mom's would interupt a bit (for teenagers anyway). It sounds like you are not old enough to move out, so start accepting some facts of life, like you don't always get want you want!

You may not have the best relationship with your parents. But would you prefer your dad went back to alcoholism and your mom possibly joining him. Your parents probably have not had it easy, cut them some slack. Apologize for being an ass-hole, try to show them some respect, and just sneak around their backs to screw the hottie until you get your own damn place.

You lost that when you were verbally abusive to your mother. It's her house and she has a right to expect people in it to behave according to her standards, no matter what those standards might be. If you don't like the house rules, get your own house.

Half of this sentence disproves the other half. I am not a Christian, but consider anyone who makes such a blanket statement about people who believe in any religion to be the idiot.

I dont want to respond too much. Id rather wait and see what people have to say. But I will say that I am sympathetic to the Nihilist belief system. I dont believe that I am a complete Nihilist, but there are definitely things about it that I can take away. About Christianity, the only Christian I like is Jesus. These are all my ideas, so they might sound weird, but I feel like Jesus was the only true Christian because he found the path himself. We have to also find the path and turning to Jesus is pointless.

Ive got some old school Styxx, Yellow Card, The Racounters, that I plan to listen to this hour. I dont know why I am going to listen to Styxx, but I am. LOL. What are you guys listening to?

You expected to get laid in your house with your mom home without being interupted?

You are retarded, and should apologize to your parents immediately.

It's somewhat ironic that you rave about your parents being ignorant, yet you think that nihilism is a "belief system" that one can be sympathetic to. Nihilism is a very general term that usually refers to the denial of conventional valuations (in your case probably the denial of religious values). It's important to keep in mind that Christianity is a form of radical nihilism unto itself because it strives to devalue behaviors such as sexual intercourse and other alleged vices in favor of worshipping a god and fantasy afterlife. The works of Friedrich Nietzsche would greatly enhance your understanding of nihilism.

zarathustra,
great, why is it that only athiests try and talk about their views on religion on this forum? Just shut the hell up, nobody on this forum ever tells everyone else that there is a god, so why is it that all sorts of people try to tell anyone who believes in a god that they're an idiot.

I would try and stop backtalking to your parents no matter how stupid they are until you get good enough at poker to have some financial leverage.

Do you want to go to college or lean on them financially for the next few years? If so, stfu.

Klompy,

I never made any claims about the existence of a god and I also never said anything about being an atheist. I was telling the OP that Christianity is arguably a form of nihilism under the assumptions he had already claimed to be making (reasonable assumptions about the bible not being factual).

This is an example of using the word “ironic” correctly: It's somewhat ironic that you rave about your parents being ignorant, yet you think that nihilism is a "belief system" that one can be sympathetic to.

This is an example of not using the word correctly: I ironically told her, "No Mom, Sherry is a buddhist.

Zarathustra,
Maybe I had too quick of a reaction, but saying "fantasy afterlife" led me to believe you were an athiest, I guess there's a few more religions that could fall under but obviously the most common would be athiest. I just get sick of how all the athiests on this forum think that anyone with any beliefs is considered stupid somehow.
