The happiest person you know
Take a second. Think of the happiest person you know. The person who, over time, has bounced back the best to a calm, gentle, joyful peace of mind.
What are they like? What do they care about? What have they accomplished? |
Re: The happiest person you know
I am thinking of my aunt. She's really old. She's a nun.
I think you can guess my answer to #1. |
Re: The happiest person you know
I had to think a long time about what people I know are actualy happy and which people just put on a show for everyone, it honestly took a lot of thinking.

If I had to pick again, I'd probably pick a different person, and not for lack of thinking. |
Re: The happiest person you know
my familly hangs out with this retarded guy named jerry. he is the happiest person i've ever met. he gets excited and smiles about everything. he is incredibly social and likes to interact with everyone. Though he is retarded and can't count past five, he has moments were he is remarkably clever. He can get frustrated at times, but for the most part, he just seems excited to be alive.

Re: The happiest person you know
I don't know any happy people.

Re: The happiest person you know
colonel,
now that you mention this, if I had the chance to do this quiz again, I would have done it about someone I know who's retarded too. I think ignorance is truely bliss. |

Thus 'happiest'. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. |
Re: The happiest person you know
so i can't choose me? I can't think of anyone 'happier' who may not be manic.

Re: The happiest person you know
my best friend is the happiest person i know. he's a grad at stanford now, "play hard work hard" i guess. he likes having fun, very easy going, never gets angry.

Re: The happiest person you know
forgiveness is definitely at the top. if you forgive people for wronging you, what else is there to be mad about?

Re: The happiest person you know
The happiest person I know is an friend from college, a Greek guy who's about 5' 4". He's handsome, quite interesting, very forgiving and kind when called upon to be so, not particularly successful, and I'd trust him with anything. In addition, were he a girl, I'd marry him.

Re: The happiest person you know
I voted that the person wasn't sincere. I guess i missed the point, haha.

Re: The happiest person you know
I think that cocktail waitress at the Venetian poker room takes this one.

Re: The happiest person you know
This is a very intriguing topic, Bison. Early results would seem to indicate that there is a strong correlation between happiness and goodness. At first glance I find that rather troublesome, since it would lead me to seriously question how 'good' I really am.

Re: The happiest person you know
What's happy mean? Outward or inward? It seems so many outwardly happy people aren't exactly happy and vice versa. And it's pretty hard to figure out who's the most inwardly happy person!

You're gonna have to think for this one. It's not the sort of thing most people keep a mental list of. |

Re: The happiest person you know
happiest person (and ppl) i know are forgiving. i think this comes down to the fact that if you hold a lot of grudges its impossibly to be completely happy.
they are also trustworthy and sincere. this likely has to do with not having anything weighing on the conscience. |
Re: The happiest person you know
The happiest people I know are very very religious.
I'll pay anyone 50k to brainswash me. |
Re: The happiest person you know
Interestingly, I would say that the happiest people i know posess a lot of the same qualities with the most unhappy ones.
Of all the qualities , I'd say the happier people are the ones with more freedom/independance. The happiest guys i know are not bogged down by families, relatives and social responsibilities. |
Re: The happiest person you know
I'm surprised at the results for "interesting to talk to." IMO people who are happy all the time are pure hell to talk to.

Re: The happiest person you know
I could have chosen a few people who are basically smiling 24/7 because they're too dumb to be anything but happy, but the person I chose is intelligent, introspective, and has been through some difficulties but made peace with who they are and the direction their life is going/has gone, and still ended up a very happy person on the other side.
I think we could take this a different direction and discuss what happiness really is, because I think the person who fully understands all the things there are to be unhappy about and still remains content with themself is happier than the "ignorance is bliss" types, even if they aren't smiling quite as much. |
Re: The happiest person you know
Honesty is definitely +happinessEV.

Re: The happiest person you know
I know a few people who I think are about close to tied in being the happiest. Based on these people:
Physical attractiveness one way or the other is not relevant. They are generally interesting to talk to, but not necessarily THAT interesting, especially at first. They are more kind and forgiving than most. A couple are slightly moreso than average and a couple are way off the charts. They are about average for people I know as far as professional success. This is more than average for the population in general. They are sincere and trustworthy, but most of the people I bother to get to know are. The people I do know that aren't sincere and trustworthy are definitely not happy though. I think the happy people are generally outgoing and compassionate (at least personally - they aren't necessarily trying to save the world). |
Re: The happiest person you know
I agree with the forgiveness correlating to happiness. Also not taking anything too seriously.
I know a lot of unhappy religious people. My friend who is a new dad couldn't be happier. |

[/ QUOTE ] I always find myself quoting you TME, but whatever, you're usually spot-on. The happiest people I know have a great perspective on life, have usually been through some serious [censored] (divorce, death of parents, whatever), but are comfortable with themselves, their life views, and knowing that they haven't figured it all out yet, and probably never will. There's not too strong a correlation between superficial qualities (wealth, prestige, attractive-ness, etc.) and the person being truly happy / content from my experience. But it always helps to have an edge I'd say -Al |

Re: The happiest person you know
The answers to this question depend heavily upon your interpretation of the word "happy." To me, happiness is beyond cheerfulness and is reliant on a certain level of introspection, combined with the ability to adapt to new situations and overcome both minor and major tragedies. The person I thought of isn’t particularly attractive or successful (yet…though he has no burning ambition to be famous or rich, he’s an astonishing artist, despite his lack of despair), but he knows himself and his desires and limitations and never tilts, essentially. These traits make it inevitable that he's great fun to talk to and trustworthy and overall a naturally good giving person. I wish I was more like him. I probably could be…if I tried harder.
