what cities are good for B&M Casinos

Hello all. I've been honing my skills over the past year in live home games around town, and have been doing pretty well. The problem is I live in such a small town im not able to make a legitimate income. I am now looking to move somewhere with B&M Casinos so I can make a regular income doing so. So, my question to you is, what cities have good casinos where I could make a regular income playing in the games? Now of course we all know Las Vegas and the big names but was wandering if there are any other good spots. Would love to hear what you guys have to say.

Aw, aren't you cute.

LA is probably where you'd want to end up due to the number of people/tables.

Anyway, good luck. You might want to talk to some people who have tried playing for a living before you make a big committment though. Small town home games probably isn't much of an indicator of anything.

Two guys I know who are pros make their dollars at Sandia Casino in Albuquerque, NM. One often travels from Amarillo just to play there (hey SirFelix, if you're reading.) We also have Isleta, Route 66, and Santa Ana nearby, all with poker rooms.

I would probably take a look at Tunica MS. someone else with more experience can jump in and set me straight if I am wrong but the cost of living is low, you could eat really good for free.

I don't know if you could rotate through the three hotels with poker room rates for an extended period of time but I would think rent would be reasonable.

Don't the local Tunica poker pros just sleep in their car?

I wouldn't sleep in my car at Tunica, at least in summer. The mosquitos are big enough to carry a can opener.

What stakes are you looking to play? What about your track record makes you think you can beat those stakes?

http://poker.wikia.com/wiki/Going_pro

Psych forum also talks a lot about going pro.

Plenty of places to play, say, $15/30 or $5-10 NL or higher on a regular basis: Vegas, SoCal, NoCal, AC, Chicago area, Connecticut. But it does you no good if you can't beat those games.

very true, I have been studying the game for quite a while now and have done very well online as well as live. I usualy play the 5/10 dollar games.

I live in LA and there is tons of action out here. Do heed the other poster's warning about the transistion from small town to LA, Vegas or AC. I was killing online and home games and got murdered the first time in a B&M. Not saying it can't be done, it might be harder than you think. Good luck.

Obviously LA has many casinos, but you should consider your life outside of poker also. Many of the casinos are very spread out and in horrible areas. Its hard to find a good, nice place to live thats also near casinos. I live in Brentwood (IMO one of the best places to live in LA) and the closest casino, Hollywood Park, is 11 miles away which would be ok if there werent traffic to and from every day from 9am to 9pm and other casinos are much farther and have worse traffic. I'm not sure what's acceptable to you as far as living conditions and commutes, but its definitely something to take into consideration.

Very good answer.

Many of us learned from a recent thread that there's a $300 cap on pots there, but are there enough big games on which to make a living? I guess Ray Zee does, right?

very good point. I was looking into Atlantic City which looks like it has 8 casinos and have heard from a lot of people that there are a lot of good games there. Anyone know about the living in Atlantic City?

Norcal has many good options within proximity. Rent and cost of living are high, but you can get around via public transportation.

Fortunately, there are a lot of non-poker things to do in the Bay area. having lived in socal and norcal, I enjoyed the latter more.

Well, outside the casinos, I find AC to be a small, moderately nasty city.

I'm sure you can find some moderately nice South Jersey town within driving distance, if that's what suits you.

Some of the cheap Absecon motels offer a weekly rate if you want to "try before you buy." In fact, you might run into me there one day.

Well As someone who is no pro but have lived both on the west Coast and the East Coast

May I Sugest Ether CT or San Diego.

both would probaly be good for a guy from the smalltown.
since Both places City Wise are More smalltown CT expecaly but San Diego is also alot more Layed back
as for Cost of Living both are about the same.
for a Great Apartment its anyware from 1grand to 1500 a mounth in rent and some more for Utiltys
and Weather is about the same execpt for Winter in CT which is not that bad since were Coastal.

as for the games there is probaly more Games in San Diego just becuse there is more Cardrooms
CT only has Foxwoods.
but it makes up for that based on the Fish and the Shear size of it.

I'm sure SD has fish, but there's definitely a good game selection, and the new room is quite nice. Notwithstanding all the abuse I like to heap on them.

Every time I've played in a B&M, I've been amazed at how much softer games are at a given level. I usually play 2-3x the level B&M that I do online and find it no problem at all. The only problem with B&M is multi-tabling is difficult.

No, that's Atlantic City.

I hear Chip's Inn in Harris, Michigan is a pretty happening place. They have 3 tables and the rake is 5% up to $3 max. It is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, so you have to get used to the weird accent: aboot, yah, gee, etc. It is a real happening town, especially if you have a criminal record and are trying to hide out from the law, and you are only 6 hours away from St. Ignace, another gambling mecca. Northern Michigan casinos spread excellent games such as Pan-Gin-Rummy-Pineapple-Fruitcake Poker and Go-Fish-Go-Hunting and other popular local games. Occasionally when the games are slow, you may have to stand on the highway with a roadsign recruiting players, but dont worry, people from the UP are excellent drivers and if they do manage to side swipe you will almost always stop and courteously try to move you off the road to somewhere less conspicous.

Kansas City is a really nice city to live in, and if you get tired of the card rooms there you can always drive an hour or three to another gambling center.

Indeed lots of places to play in the bay... and it's a great town. If you can afford the rent/homeloan then go for it. I don't think someone could pay me to live in SoCal unless it was down in San Diego... that's a fun place to visit.

Good luck!
