Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Richardson clearly invented the post it note. 3M owes that dude.
Really enjoyed this ep. I was slightly thrown off by the stuff with Langrish, but I'm assuming it's driving somewhere. Loved seeing Al take charge, and even Charlie kinda begrudingly taking orders from him. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Have it on TIVO so haven't seen it yet, but I just wanted to say that this season of Deadwood is probably the best single season of any TV show I have ever seen. I don't understand how we can get 20 pages of Lost and Sopranos posts yet only a few for Deadwood. I guess people don't know what they're missing.
|
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Swearengen is completely bad ass. I thoroughly enjoyed him kicking the [censored] out of Hearst's guy, and then slitting his throat.
|
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
and then thoroughly messing with hearst.
I love yankton's "I didn't remember that part of the story". and of course Jane being Jane. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Definitely another amazing episode. I had low expectations for Deadwood Season three (Season Two left me pretty bored and indifferent), but this whole season has been gripping.
Hard to believe only two episodes left... Interesting to see how they wrap things up... Of course, if you Wikipedia "Deadwood" and read the history of the town, there are some pretty significant things left to happen to the town that will affect the major characters, and there have been hints about it in the earlier part of the season... I'll be curious if that's part of the finale... or left alone. |

Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
You guys are aware that this is the final two episodes of the series, right? HBO stopped production. There is no season 4.
There will be two 2-hour movies afterwards. |

[/ QUOTE ] I've always assumed this season would see Hearst acquire the Garrett claim but ultimately leave Deadwood to remain Bullock and Swearengen's town. It will be interesting though to see if they'll have Hearst burn the town to the ground in his exit. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
My favorite line:
While wrapping up the Pinkerton guy's body, one of Swearengen's men saying something like: "That's the longest a rug has lasted here." |

[/ QUOTE ] Apparently, that's not 100% final. The guy who posts here who is a writer for Deadwood posted awhile back that this may not be 100% set in stone. I've been holding out hope. I think it was him (I could have read it somewhere else) that said it was a problem with who was getting overseas distribution? So, hopefully they can work that out and they can continue one of the top 2 or 3 series on TV. |

I would be grateful if you remembered their name. |

I've been sitting here trying to remember since I posted. I'm so frustrated I'm nearly ready to take on the "Search" function.

I have no idea why these people are taking up screen time when there could be more cursing, drinking whoring, and throat cutting. Also, why did Hearst have Odell killed? The implication was that Odell was up to no good, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out what he had done to deserve killing. |

Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Langrish was a real theater owner, and was reportedly one of Swearengen's few friends. I think his purpose is to show that the camp is trying to "mature" into a real town by introducing the arts (in addition to the paper and the school, which are also recurring themes), as well as serving as a fulcrum between the Swearengen and Hearst interests.
But the main reason is that Brian Cox is an effing fantastic actor, and is watchable in whatever he does. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
It hasn't been establish that Hearst had Odell killed, but that's the very likely assumption.
Having internal strife within Langrish's camp when we haven't established any real personalities beyond Jack and the fat girl nailed Conn is weird. I'm assuming that what's happening is some build up to put Jack in a position where he may use his position as Hearts's back guy to do something nastier. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
I found it. User Actual God says he's a writer for Deadwood, and this is the thread/post that I was talking about:
Richardson is awesome PS- Search really sucks. |

It seems that Langrish may have even hinted to something like this when talking to Al on the balcony a few episodes ago. Loved Al in this episode, but I love him in every episode. Him jumping off the balcony was great. I enjoyed the line, "Getting shot at aint no fun and it never gets any better." |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
I wonder if EB will wash the spit off his face in time for the next episode. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Deadwood is the best show on HBO.
"How's the back Mr. Hearst?" |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
I also greatly enjoy Al goofing on Jewel. Typically the comedic highlight of the week.

Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Yea, I work for David Milch/Deadwood/Milch's new show. I haven't heard any promising news about the possibility of new seasons. As of now, Milch is 100% focused on his new show, which will start taping in September or October. After a season of that, it looks like he'll return to Deadwood for the two 2-hour things.
|
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
Fantastic episode. One of my favorite scenes (that hasn't been mentioned yet) was Bullock eating dinner. Sol and Mrs. Bullock were trying to be light-hearted, but he was STEAMING. Olyphant can definitely emote extremely pissed off.

Everybody who has worked on the show this season deserves praise...this season has been one of the best show seasons in the history of the medium, IMO. Looked up the new show, "set in the California surfing community". IMDB says Bruce Greenwood is in the cast, so I'm down with that. |

Fans of the show will not be disappointed. The cast of the new show includes Bruce Greenwood, Ed O'neill, Luis Guzman, Austin Nicholls, a kid named Grayson, (possibly) Rebecca Demornay, (possibly) Nick Nolte, and (possibly) Cissy Spacek. Still very early though. |

[/ QUOTE ] Its a shame that the last part will have to be condensed to 3 hours from the originally planed 10-12, but Im glad they managed to reconcile and give us that much, originally I heard the whole thing was just going to end unfinished after season 3. The story I read was that HBO blew the money for season 4 on what they spent to make Rome, and went to Milch to ask him to condense it, and he said, no way, I just won't do it. Then he changed his mind and decided to do the 2 - 2 hour movies. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
I watched deadwood for the first time last night since I usually do all my laundry on sunday nights before entourage comes on but my mom and brother flew in to visit me for a few days and she did it for me.
Anyway, I thought the show was pretty interesting, but what's with everyone calling everyone c*nts and c*cksuckers? I like cussing as much as the next guy and there aren't any words that offend me, but I couldn't stop thinking about that. And I liked the whores. |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
I forgot to add: I thought the scene with Dority and Ellsworth was AWESOME. One of the best of last night's episode, IMO.
|
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
I missed Deadwood last week, and my moron cable company didnt put it on demand, so I couldnt watch it this week and go to on demand and they have this weeks episode. They just skipped an episode. Fuggers.

Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
This has kind of been discussed, but who exactly is that chick in the hotel that Langrishe was dealing with last episode? Should we have an idea of what's going on with that at this point?
And are we supposed to assume that Odell was never really in Liberia? Or if he was, how was he going to defraud Hearst? And if there was no scam, why is it implied that Hearst killed him? |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
One more question: Why was Bullock campaigning in Sturgis? I thought this was just a camp election?
|
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
"There's a note pinned on him, Al."
"Take it off him. Then stick him in the eye with the [censored] pin." [ QUOTE ] Yes it was. Funny that Dan got such a great scene when W. Earl Brown wrote the script =) [/ QUOTE ] Has Earl written any other episodes? This was the first time I recall seeing him get a writing credit. And the writing was fantastic tonight. WTF is up with HBO On Demand? "Amateur Night" never made it to OD. Somebody above says that he watched "A Constant Throb" OD, but it's not on mine. I work Sunday nights, and I'm used to dialing up OD on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest. Do different cable companies have different OD menus? And since nobody's mentioned it: What's up with Cy tearing up his healing wounds? |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
[ QUOTE ]
And are we supposed to assume that Odell was never really in Liberia? [/ QUOTE ] He was definitely in Liberia. His mother sent him there when he was younger. She thought that she was doing what was best for him, but he ended up coming back angry and resentful for being sent away. Defrauding Hearst was partially to get back at her. [ QUOTE ] Or if he was, how was he going to defraud Hearst? And if there was no scam, why is it implied that Hearst killed him? [/ QUOTE ] He claimed to be representing a group that had discovered a gold deposit. He was approaching Hearst to invest in the gold mine. Hearst figured out that it was a scam and had him killed (though he never admits doing so -- but it's pretty obvious that he did). |
Re: Richardson Thread 8/13 (aka Deadwood)
I meant had he really just come from Liberia - seems like he didn't, if I recall correctly one conversation about timelines that he had with his mother.
And I still don't really get how he was going to defraud Hearst, who surely would have sent someone to verify Odell's claims. As for Cy - I think it is just extreme depression and self-loathing. Ever since Stubbs left he's been going downhill. |
