SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- GSN is extending an invitation to Jamie Gold, who just won the 2006 World Series of Poker main event, to play in the next season of HIGH STAKES POKER on GSN.

Gold won over $12 million by outlasting over 8,000 players in the "World Series of Poker" main event. If he accepts the invitation, Gold will be taking on top professionals in a cash game where every player puts up $100,000 or more of their own money to play.

The third season of HIGH STAKES POKER will be taped in Las Vegas. The tape date, location and complete field of players will be announced later.

Jamie will eventually trick the likes of Greenstein, Brunson and Negreanu into giving him all their chips.

He doesn't play the cards, he plays the people.

This will be a good idea if Jamie Gold doesn't like money.

Finally, someone Mike Matusow and Phil Helmuth can finally take money from on HSP.

wouldn't this be a good move for Jamie - even realizing it's -EV?

if he buys in for 100,000k he gets the tv time - surely good for endorsements. he could even get lucky and win. it wouldn't surprise me if bodog even put up some of the money for this.

Re: GSN invites Jamie Gold for HSP Season 3

Good point trying2learn - former WSOP champions usually have a hard time getting face time on televised poker shows. Jamie Gold would definitely be smart to buy in to a cash game where he is almost undoubtedly overmatched.

He can get at least 5 appearances on Poker Superstars IV for $50k, much better deal.

BINGO.

FSN let players wear logos on Poker SuperStars.

GSN does NOT allow players to wear logos on High Stakes Poker.

Furthermore, Poker SuperStars is syndicated by FOX Sports International to Canada and parts of Europe, including Germany.

High Stakes Poker, to the best of my knowledge, isn't shown outside the U.S. and Canada.

HSOR produces both shows.

Oliver,

Why was Phil Hellmuth's hat blurred out for the majority of Poker Superstars III? That was of UB.net, was there some sort of no logos on hats thing going on?

Just curious if anyone has watched and/or played with jamie in some side games at either the bike or the commerce. I heard he plays there often.

Hellmuth's cap, which is part of the "Phil Hellmuth" line of clothing, features the "PH" logo. That logo was not approved and was digitally edited out.

Jamie's played at both the Bike and Commerce. He also made an appearance on Live at the Bike back on October 12.

I played a 2-3-5 No Limit game at the Hustler Casino on an afternoon in January on the day before the opening event of the 2006 LAPC at Commerce.

There was a producer/agent type to my right who was talking about his proposed projects with another player at the table.

That producer/agent looked a lot like Jamie Gold.

Series one was shown recently on a small UK cable channel, don't think it got much attention though.

I'm not allowed to talk about how I manage to watch it over here!

Was season 1 on the Poker Channel in the UK?

I know there's been talk about doing some similiar to High Stakes Poker there in the near future.

there are some soft spots that i think jamie can feed off of (hellmuth, chamanara, farha, etc.) that could make it ok for him to play. he's also RICH BITCH!

I'd play in it if I were him, just to have fun. It's the best game on TV right now. If he doesn't play loose (which I'm not sure is possible with him), he wouldn't lose much if he lost. If he plays loose, he could loose 2 or 3 buy-ins. I'm sure he could survive on his other 10 mill or so after taxes.

Re: GSN invites Jamie Gold for HSP Season 3

Saw the thread or discussion regarding Gold's appearance of LATB.

He played only about 10 hands and dropped his 5k buy-in. He was all in with top pair for around 1300 and an Ace on the turn busted him.

He then walked off quickly and started talking on his cell phone.

Bart and Shirley kept calling him "this kid" and that he was taking a shot playing in the big game.

But it sounded like the dealer (the one mostly recognized as The Bike's best) called him by his first name, "small blind, Jamie," she said, indicating that he played there regularly, as has been said.

He also was taking off 10s by Seif, who reraised with AK after Gold and opened for a small raise.

WHen he busted out Bart and Shirley, said "let's see how deep those pockets are," before he stood up and kinda stormed off.

Eh? Do you play poker? Do you like poker? Prahlad is one of the best & most interesting players around simply in terms of poker style. He's also an amusing personality who does some clever/ridiculous table talk which you can either admire or make fun of. Either way he's full of entertainment value. There's not many people I'd rather see.

I wonder if Hachem ever got invited? He supposedly plays in big NL cash games all the time. Although I suppose it's very possible that he could have been in Australia while filming was going on.

Re: GSN invites Jamie Gold for HSP Season 3

Hmmm. If ego went to Jamie's head, he'd take up the invite but the potshots at his credentials and resume from the various bitchy Hollywood gossip blogs probably means he's backstepping a little bit and that he'll firmly take up a position behind-the-camera with his Buzznation production company.

Jamie will most likely only play in tournaments such as previously mentioned, Poker Superstars or various WPT events where he will be sponsored and unlikely to have to delve too much into his own pocket which would make a hole of whatever the IRS has left him with.

Bodog probably won't give him any money even for the prestige of having the latest WSOP Main Event champ amongst the high-rollers because you won't see Bodog on Jamie's clothing if he went on the show. If Jamie wants a shot, Jamie will have to pony up and pay his own way.

HSP is broadcast on Challenge TV in the UK but weirdly wasn't given any kind of a strong promotional push. A very cult show amongst all the flipping freaky shootout tournaments that dominates UK TV.
