New Software- IdleMiner

IdleMiner is a new piece of software designed to make datamining observed hands on party poker a snap. It's so simple that it datamines while you are away from the computer. IdleMiner functions as a screensaver that automatically opens tables at limits you specify and saves the hands in a file for later import into poker tracker.

We are currently beta testing the product and would love it if members of the 2+2 community would participate in this beta. If you would like to participate go to www.idleminer.com for instructions and download.

We will be watching this thread to answer anyones questions or respond to any comments. You can also email us at [email protected].

Thanks,
IdleMiner

Sounds cool but after the RBCalc situation Im not going to be the guinea pig.

Haha thats okay, I'm sure time will show that it is nothing to be worried about.

However it is good practice to always scan everything that you download.

Im not tryin to say that I think your software is anything other than what you say it is, Id just rather someone a bit more computer savy than me check it out first. I look forward to trying it out in the future though. Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Is your software easier then the 2-app solution currently in place?

idleminer 08-13-2006 02:53 AM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Yes much easier. It is just about as easy as it can possibly get. You can start to datamine from the configuration window in which case it will automatically open up the tables and begin to gather observed hands. Also, IdleMiner functinos as a screen saver. So if your computer is idle for say 10 minutes idleminer will automatically open up tables and begin to datamine. You really dont have to do a thing.

It takes way too long to email your password info. Guess I'll have to see if I get the email tomorrow...

idleminer 08-13-2006 04:48 AM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

The email's should be sent instantly. You should check and see if the email was regarded as spam by your mail system's filter. If that doesnt work, you should try using the password recovery tool on the website. If all else fails please email us at [email protected] and we will try to work it out with you.

If I understand well, your software is an equivalent of freewares iWitness + FPGH.

Agreed. I will wait until some others take a peek at the program and then I will try it out myself.

http://www.idleminer.com/ isn't working for me.

http://idleminer.com/ links to a site which is just an advert for a Party Freeroll?

When I clicked the link earlier, it worked, but right now, I'm getting the same results as you.

We are having some technical difficulties with our server. We have a temporary direct download if you would like to try out the software here: http://www.idleminer.com/com/download.php

You should be able to directly download and install from there.

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Does it work on different games (i.e. stud & omaha) or just holdem?

Also, do you have to have the Party client open for this to work or does the screensaver open it and log you in automatically?

idleminer 08-13-2006 01:07 PM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Currently the software only works for holdem. That may be something we will be able to work on. To answer your second question. No, you do not need to have party poker open. It opens it up for you and automatically logs in and opens up the tables and begins datamining. That way, whenever you are away from the computer you will be guranteed to be datamining without any effort from you.

Trying it out now, it has been running for a couple hours and has worked perfect. I have yet to try the screensaver function, but it sounds very useful.

Yep, I'm getting no email here.
Also tried the requesting of a new password. No joy.

Is this software safe? Couldn't this easily log your partypoker paassword? and disasters could go down from there?

Any software running while you have party poker running could steal your password. It is good practice to scan anything that you download to make sure it is safe.

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Basically you could use any anti-virus software comercially available. Also if someone is tech-savy enough they can verify that nothing is being sent from the software onto the internet with a packet sniffer.

muxplust 08-13-2006 06:45 PM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

What/Where do you get a packet sniffer? part of an anti-virus package?

AngryEgyptian 08-13-2006 07:17 PM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Edit: I know nothing

idleminer 08-13-2006 07:18 PM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Well honestly if you aren't tech savy you're going to have a hard time with a packet sniffer, not only getting it working but also interpreting the results.

If you'd like to give it a try I'd suggest installing ethereal which is a free program you can get at http://www.ethereal.com/

You'll probably have to install the winpcap driver but it is also bundled with the application.

Good luck and please if you do get it working, let everyone else in the thread know that we're not stealing anything

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

If someone could check up on the legitimacy of the program, it would be really helpful. I, for one, would like to test the program, as it sounds really useful, but I'm also kind of paranoid about using programs from unknowns.

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

<font color="red">Scanning stuff with a virus checker does NOT detect new, novel or hand-crafted threats!</font>

To be safe: Block it with your firewall (to stop any outbound connections), use ProcessGuard (to make sure it can't inject anything into another trusted app) and preferably use a user area with limited permissions (to make sure the installer doesn't hide something in the depths of the Windows OS).

Even if you were to disassemble it and check out all the imports, you cannot be 100% sure that it doesn't have something hidden in a packed area of the exe without spending hours and hours on it (unless its an incredibly simple app, which this isn't by the look of it).

Juk

PS: Not that I think there is anything wrong with this app btw, just when they said about scanning it with a virus killer...

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

Indeed it doesn't but we were advocating scanning everything you download as a good general precaution. The thing about using PG and blocking is that if you block everything you'll actually make it impossible for the program to do certain things it has to do to work.

Anyhow you can just dumbin the segments to check and see if there are any nonstandard sections (there aren't) and run depends.exe on it and see if its using anything out of the ordinary (like security token functionality, which it isn't).

aujoz 08-13-2006 08:02 PM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

1) can it handle SNGs? (especially Speed SNGs which all have the same table name 'cause party is crap)

2) can you set it to run, even if you don't have the screensaver active?

idleminer 08-13-2006 08:11 PM

Re: New Software- IdleMiner

1) Currently it cannot handle SNG's but that is somethign we will look into adding. It seems like alot of people want to mine these.

2) Yes you can just start it running any time you want from from the window that opens any time you run the program.

Just use some ".code" or ".text" segments and hide the code away using some simple xor-ing, or even better just hide it away in some random data-file or a stenographed image.

Then once you have unpacked your code at some random time in the future, use these three 'ordinary' functions to drop a ".exe" or ".com" and fire it up:

Kernel32:CreateFileA
Kernel32:WriteFile
Shell32:ShellExecute

I'm not saying your app has anything nasty in it. I'm just pointing out that it's almost impossible to be sure it hasn't.

PM me your username and I'll send you a password manually. Anyone else who is having the same problem can do the same. We're looking in to what could be causing this but it looks like the e-mails are going through fine on our end.

It is in the works and should be in the next patch. Which, by the way, are completely automated so there is no need to watch for a new release
