Coolest character in film?
I got a notion we've done this once, but can't find anything on searching. Someone put me straight if we have, willya?
Ok, I'm saying the knife-throwing James Coburn character in the Magnificent Seven. Very, very cool. What you think? |

Mr. Freeze in Batman!
Sorry. Star me if you must. |
Re: Coolest character in film?
This is a little bit boring, but there is no one cooler then Dirty Harry aka. Clint Eastwood...
|
Re: Coolest character in film?
for my money -
no one was cooler then Val Kilmer as Doc. Holiday in "Tombstone" - sorry.... RB |

Re: Coolest character in film?
I've got to go with Harvey Keitel as Winston "The Wolf" in Pulp Fiction.

Re: Coolest character in film?
I don't know if this is expanding the bounds too far, but I'm pretty partial to Tyler Durden.
Either that or the Charlie Sheen character in Ferris Beuler's Day Off. He was pretty damn cool. |
Re: Coolest character in film?
I always felt Neo in the first Matrix was ridiculously cool. I remember walking out of the theater and basically thinking my own cool quotient had tripled just from watching that character in the movie.

Re: Coolest character in film?
Bruce Lee backfisting two chumps who run up behind him without looking in The Chinese Connection. This move reappears everywhere later, perhaps most famously in The Jerk. It'll keep reappearing in some form or another till the end of time.
Other candidates: Chevy Chase on top of some super hot chick in Caddyshack, drunk off his ass, telling her, "You make me feel like a hundred bucks" and falling off her and crashing to the floor. Sean Connery cold bloodedly executing a hapless villain after subtly goading him to make a stupid move, in Dr. No. "Your six are up." His first shot as "Bond, James Bond" is also one of the coolest quick moments ever on film. Giuletta Masina smiling into the camera at the end of Nights of Cabiria. Jean Paul Belmondo pretty much all through Breathless. Jean Gabin pretty much always. Michel Simon pretty much anywhere in Boudu Saved from Drowning and L'Atalante. Ben Kingsley throughout Gandhi, but especially in the scene where he tells the despairing Muslim child killer how to do something to help make up for the evil he has caused. Clint Eastwood telling a bunch of toughs in I think it was For a Fistful of Dollars, who had laughed at him coming into town riding a donkey, "I want you to apologize to my ass." Paul Newman refusing to stop fighting George Kennedy in Cool Hand Luke. Clive Owen in Croupier at the end looking smugly into the camera as the voice-over says, "I have the power to make you lose." Honorable mention to David Naughton in An American Werewolf in London. He got a great vacation in Europe, had hilarious friends, got to be a werewolf and literally bite people's heads off, AND got to bang Jenny Agutter. What more could anyone want out of life? |

The original Matrix was incredibly cool and even Keanu Reeves managed to look super cool in this one, which is really saying something. This movie was a factory for producing coolness. |

deniro in heat was pretty damn cool, even though pride got the best of him in the end.

deniro in heat was pretty damn cool, even though pride got the best of him in the end. [/ QUOTE ] He's probably my favorite for consistently cool, in that movie. Smart, independent, deadly, great at what he does, all the right connetions, great at thinking on his feet, able to bag tremendously hot chicks much younger than he is,someone whose word it's just crazy to disregard, and who shows you why if you do. Definitely flawed. I found it hard to picture a great screen cool dude like Clint Eastwood in any normal situation, and DeNiro's character is also not really at home in the world despite the incredible degree to which he has mastered it. There's something sad, but perversely there's even something a little bit cool about that too. |
Re: Coolest character in film?
this one's easy. the last scene intended to cut him down notwithstanding, trent in swingers is the coolest character in any movie. ever. |

Jean Paul Belmondo pretty much all through Breathless. [/ QUOTE ] I love this movie. I did the lip thing for a month after I saw this movie, and he ripped that off from Bogart. It's funny though because he's trying so hard to be cool and he is, but it's all ripped off. Great movie. EDIT: Er...film... |
Re: Coolest character in film?
Best I can come up with that hasn't been mentioned yet.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah he's an open admirer of things American in that movie, including Jean Seberg(who isn't!). He loves American icons like Bogey and patterns himself after him, but openly protests how much he hates French icons like Maurice Chevalier. Can't blame him. We got the better end of the deal there. |

After watching Layer Cake, i have to say they made a decent choice with Daniel Craig though. |

Re: Coolest character in film?
There's some very solid names mentioned so far, but I can't believe no one has mentioned Chili Palmer from Get Shorty yet. Travolta does an amazing job portraying Chili's cool in this movie (let's not talk about the uber-mediocre sequel).

Michael Madsens character in Reservoir Dogs, i forgot which mr.(color) he was but he was a badass, he is pretty much a badass in most of his movies even in crappy stuff like free willy and tilt. I would have said val kilmer in tombstone but that has been mentioned, damn he was good. |

"My money in 24 hours, or you will wear your ass for a hat." The Brian Cox Lecter from Manhunter was a pretty damn cool character as well. I think I'm on to something... Michael Mann has some pretty cool characters. ~D |
