About Jamie Gold...

Here's a guy that IMO plays Ok, no problem with that. He has claimed that he 'doesn't want to carry the responsibility of World Champion' essentially it's too much trouble...(but would like the money..) that's in print and on video.

I thought he was disrespectful to Allen (among others') when he knocked him out (with the worst hand).

He CONTINUES to get Chan's opinions DURING THE GAME (one player to a hand?)

I question his ettiquete, table talk goes too far IMO.

The deck has hit this guy who appears from that couldn't carry the lunch of most pros IMHO.

He acts IMO like he's God's gift. Sorry but this guy currently disgusts me and I'm sad that he apparently will represent the 'World Champion' for a game that most of us love.

What a joke. My opinion, sorry if I offend anyone, it's not intentional. Turned out to be one of the weakest final tables in recent years IMHO.

Other than Cunningham what were expecting?

I mean Doug plays like 5-10 NLH live doesnt he?

Obviously these 2 were passivedonkeys....

The old Asian guy just couldnt lay JJ with a zillion chips left.......

Seriously why would anyone think this was a great final table?

As long as it's not during a hand, there is no issue here. You guys are searching for a reason to hate.

The f'ing guy led for 4 days. Did the deck hit him for 4 days or did he actually play some good poker. Give the guy a f'ing break. He dominated the tournament.

hammerva 08-11-2006 07:18 AM

Re: About Jamie Gold...

Serously I don't get why everyone hates this guy. Yes he got lucky but there was almost 8800 people in this tournament. Luck plays about half of this tournament anyway and with this many people with very little pro tournament experience luck is even more important. Yes he does talk alot but anybody who spends more than 6 hours on the weekends at the Borgata has heard worse from more spoiled brats.

I mean christ did everybody here who won a tournament do it by 100% skill and needed no luck or no fishy opponent plays or no suckouts. And if you were that great then why the hell aren't you in the main event.

Face it poker is mostly about luck at the right moment mixed with skill. Gold hit it and congrats to him. Most of the people sounds like jealous old men right now

Sorry for the rudenesss.

It's not our goddamn responsibility to give the luckbox some credit. The deck hit him in the face for 4 days, yes.

Re: About Jamie Gold...

He didn't get lucky, he ran well. He wasn't sucking out on people and winning coinflips, he simply seemed to hit EVERY flop. We shouldn't hate him for that.
And BTW, the average 22/180 PS player could play better SH than these guys did. Rather disappointing in that regard. I think these players were just in a hurry to get it over to some degree.

Re: About Jamie Gold...

ONE reason is that he's one of the few thousand players that DIDN'T WANT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF HAVING TO CARRY THE TITLE 'WORLD CHAMPION' ('But I DO want the money'). Makes me sick.

His arrogence, as he said he constantly talked and lied to players (not outplaying them)...he should be a salesman, not a 'player'. That was the best part of his game IMO.

Very little doubt in MY mind that if Chan didn't get so involved with him someone that WANTED to be World Champion would have been.

His deceit, constant [censored]. How often have you seen a Pro run off at the mouth at the Final table of the Big one? Nothing like this. Just dummy up and play, PLAY, DON'T SELL.

Never.

while he played really well at times, and played the best at the final table

but, they averaged 20hands/hr for the final table, so in 14hrs they played a massive massive 280ish hands, thats about 1hr of 4tabling online

and for the 70hrs before this final table, thats maybe 2k hands, anyone who has played 100k+ hands, has had a 2.3k stretch where everything works

he just has better timing than we do

Re: About Jamie Gold...

Table talk is something that many of the most respected players use to their advantage. "You call and it's all over babeeee". And Negreanu said it wasnt about the title any more, he said it was about the 12 mil. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with playing the "big one" for the money, in fact until the last couple years that's all it was for anyway. The most revered pros, the ones who can pay exactly 1.25 big bets to enter the main event, for them it's the honor of winning. For the rest of us, it's a life changing sum of money.

I'm kind of neutral on him. Don't hate him or love him. But on the ambassador part. B/c how the world champ conducts himself in the year after is such a big thing, can't every player be forced to sign a waiver beforehand stating that they will fulfill certain duties to the game in the event that they win?

I mean, its similar to the Miss World, or Mr. Universe things. I'm sure all contestants in that are bound somehow to make appearances and stuff.

The thought he seemed to be expressing is that interview was that he didn't want the fame, he's a behind the scenes kind of guy. And second, he has a career that he doesn't intend to leave and didn't know what kind of ambassador he would be.

That whole interview has been blown out of reasonable proportion. I think it was just a guy talking off the cuff who hasn't slept much and has been playing high intensity poker for days and is faced with the real possibility he might win.

Disrespectful how? His table talk and how he told each opponent what sort of hand he was holding? YOu hold a high standard.

The deck did hit him hard, but I don't hold that against him. He's not a pro, so I don't think it should be expected that he rank among the best. However, every single pro was very complimentry of his play when they were talking to Phil and Ali.I think he played outstanding big stack poker.

Try more like 99.99%. Luck will never allow anyone to turn $10,000 turnament chips into $90,000,000 tournament chips half of the time, no matter how talented they are.

There were no hole card cams, just how do you folks "know" he wasn't playing his azz off. Sure looked that way to me. None of the other softies, wanted to get in there and mix it up.

As far as table talk goes, it's something that most of the online weenies deal with by turning their chat off. You can't do that in the real world.
You think that he talked half the smack of A. Slim in his prime, and Slim was thought of as a very valuable asset to poker all the times he was on Carson's show.
Table talk has always been involved in live poker. Three years ago we were even allowed to say the word F**K at the table.

1-Lucky-SOB 08-11-2006 09:02 AM

Re: About Jamie Gold...

Three years ago we could smoke , drink, and curse at the poker table.
And, if you can't sell a hand, live poker probably just isn't for you. Nowhere did I see him cross the line on table talk.
He did flash a card once that I saw. But even that was a fully exceptable tactic, in the pre - boom days.

Oh yes he won the races - QQ vrs JJ twice when he maneuvered his opponents into making bad decisions for all their chips against him.

Did you even WATCH or are you simply jealous and whining?

Gold put on a clinic on how to play BIG STACK poker. He muscled that final table time after time after time - He also was smart enough to sit back for reasonable stretches and shift gears in his play.

Did he get "lucky" at times - WELL OF COURSE HE DID. You every know ANYONE that won a major event that didn't?

Didn't see the hand where Allen went out. Gold IMO played his stack well and as I said in another post Gold being on Allen's left was detrimental to Allen. I'm guessing that if you asked Allen about the table talk he would actually state that Gold's banter gave him a few reads that he wouldn't have otherwise had.

I have a hard time with people who are not humble in victory. Saying outright that all his opponents "just played their cards" is an incredible slam on everyone at that table. You won already, you prick! Tone that [censored] down.

Aside from this specific statement, he just has this air of general arrogance.

I'm glad he's a family guy, and he's going to be helping out hih pops. That IS cool, I agree. And perhaps he was not in best form after a grueling ME. But comments like the one mentioned above are disrespectful and worthy of the label "prick."
