Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

I loved Mansion Poker. I do better there than anywhere else. I love the sports exchange even more. But I have to post this in the hopes it spurs them to fix the software or get something new.

This happened about two weeks ago, 22 hands and 3 minutes apart at two seperate tables. The site was having connection problems and this occured in the second hand at the table after they finally resolved it and let players back in.

Odds of exact same board in exact same order- 1 in 311.8 Million(1/52 * 1/51 * 1/50 * 1/49 * 1/48)

Odds of exact same board, in exact same order, big blind having pocket aces, and the button having pocket 10's- 1 in 333.7 TRILLION. (1 in 311.8 Million * 2/47 * 1/46 * 2/45 * 1/44)

I have never asked for a penny back from the hand (I am dguild) and still don't. I just want to play on random functioning software.

Why are the headers different?
Why didn't you at least make them "3 minutes apart"?

sunnypoker 08-11-2006 12:15 AM

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

well, it is three minutes apart....

12:18:59 is literally 12:19 which is 3 mins before 00:22, which is literally 12:22

although as for the difference in the format it does question me.
but i still believe you and don't see a point of you making a fake post (if it was fake)

Sounds like they are using a predictable random number generator and started the sequence again in the same place.

Remember Planet were using a similar RNG a few years back. A software company figured out the RNG and the timing and wrote software that allowed it to display all the players hands and predict the turn and river cards once it had the flop cards and 1 players hand.

First thing that struck me as well. Particularily the change in date format from "2006-07-28" to: "July, 28, ".

Also worth noting is that 00:22:04 could be 12:22:24 AM, while 12:18:59 could mean PM, which might be almost a 12 hour difference.

Sounds more lazy than fixed. Although I have to say that that hand of all hands seems suspicious. Has anyone checked these hand IDs with Mansion yet?

Ummm...and it took you 2 weeks to decide to post these hands?

Somebody go ahead and check the hand-numbers if they like.
I also note that I haven't exactly seen a rash of "OMG, same hand over and over" type of posts about Mansion.

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

I don't see a way to check the hands with the Mansion client. I may be missing it, but it's slow and buggy so I haven't got a whole lot of patience for it.

Tigermoth 08-11-2006 07:12 AM

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

Easy solution: Write to Mansion support and ask for the hand histories for the two hand IDs posted.

dguild 08-11-2006 08:04 AM

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

The first hand is my cut and paste from the Mansion hand history and is in GMT It equates to 8:22PM EDT on the 27th.

The second is just a cut and paste from their e-mail. I honestly had not noticed the strange date format of their hand. The only reason I found out about this was the player 'Cap' saying in the chat window the next hand they had just seen the exact same hand occur at the other table. So I knew the times were very close when requesting the other hand history from Mansion. I looked at difference in hand number and then the difference in minutes.

I made a few other posts in this thread at another place

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

I would tend to believe that this happened. I played at one of the bigger sites and no longer play there for to many similarities of sorts. Too many times pocket pairs dealt to 2 people and a number of times i had KK and another player had AA. I multitabled, and would on many occasions get the same 2 cards at different 2 diffeent tables.

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

He x-posted this on another site where he has been posting for a few months and nothing indicates that he is making this up. Obviously we need to hear from mansion poker to get their version of the facts.

grinin 08-11-2006 01:42 PM

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

If someone who has an account there does ask Mansion for the hand histories, ask them for 3211050-3211149 (100 hands).
It would be interesting to know if there were issues with other hands right around that time frame.

Oh, and is the Shrink still involved with the Prescription?

Note how on the first table there are only eight players, while on the second table there are nine players. If the RNG would have resulted in a deck in the exact same order as in a previous hand, there would have been another result.

BOTW 08-12-2006 09:58 AM

Re: Mansion Deals Exact Same Hand 3 Minutes Apart (hand histories inc)

Peter, if they deal out nine hands and then distribute them to the players, tossing out any left overs, it looks the same to me.

dguild, post the emails here.

Edit: If they are doing something like XORing the RN with the entropy, and the entropy is 0, you get the RN back again. If the RNG gets the same seed on reboot, you get the same RN--> same deck. I think that's how it would work.

FWIW, when I have Party Poker email hands to a yahoo mail account, they are in a slightly different format than they would be if I pulled them from PT or the HH file myself.

Just saying.

wtf is going on here?

this thread is 2 days old, and nobody has word from mansion?

this is a HUGE problem, or a long-odds coincidence that's bound to happen someday. however, mansion needs to immediately release the full HH's with ALL the opponents hole cards. if the hole cards of the people other than these 3 hands are also the same, then this is mightily [censored].

it would make no sense for mansion to send a batch of hand histories that show a RNG failure (the best guess i've seen as to what happened) without also explaining what they plan to do for the players involved. i'd guess he'll hear from them after management has a pow-wow...

I did finally receive a reply from Mansion today. I had sent them two e-mails, the first telling them how ridiculously impossible this was and to fix their software, the second pointing out this thread and the one at therx. This one appears to be in response to the first (I never even got the automated reply to my second e-mail). Anyway, here's their reply. Not much, but something:

Hello dguild,

Further to your recent query regarding hand probabilities in MANSION Poker, our Poker Department have advised that the details have been forwarded to our software team who are investigating the matter thoroughly.

We will contact you further once we have resolved the matter.

Kindest regards,

Sue

I thought this was strange at first too, but in the hand they e-mailed me(3211077) it appears flipside was sitting out since it doesn't show him being dealt cards or acting. That would make 8 players at each table.

After the below string of e-mails, I enlisted the help of someone I hoped would have some sway with them. Unfortunately she never heard anything from them. Finally I wrote them saying I had no other choice but to post my story on the various boards over the weekend they couldn't send me the hand history. This finally spurred Mansion to dig it up for me.

>The poker works on a highly sophisticated Random Number Generator (RNG) and is designed to deal each and every hand randomly. As there are many hands being dealt on the site at any one given time the randomness and actual possibility of two exact hands being dealt around the same time is unlikely but certainly not impossible.

> >Hello dguild,
> >
> >We have received an answer from our poker department;
> >
> >We have searched for the exact hand and have been unable to locate it.
> >Having checked the account for The Player: Cap , we can see that this payer
> >did not appear to have played on table 0518 on July 28th, unless of course
> >he was at the table as an observer.
> >In any case, there are thousands of hands which are being dealt at any one
> >given time and it may be likely that the same or if not very similar
> >community cards can appear at any 2 tables whether at the same or different
> >times. Unfortunately since we cannot locate the exact hand we cannot offer
> >a precise explanation as to whether this claim definately occurred or not.
> >
> >I'm sorry that this was not the resolution you were expecting however if
> >you or another member comes accross this or any other problems or issues

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

I do not know if he was actually sitting at the table when it happened, he might have just been watching, but it was the player named 'Cap' who mentioned in the chat window

"Cap says: "I just came in and watched the exact same hand on a smaller no limit"

Cap says: "Not seconds before I cxame in here."

I am the last person in the world to cry rigged, but since you had just had to restart the software, there is a much higher probability of a problem arising at this time. You can imagine upon reading this why I would at least want to see the hand he's talking about.

I proceeded to ask what table it was at and he replied 0518. This entire exchange occurred during game number 3211134. The hand in question is 3211099.

If cap was not seated at table 0518 when the hand occurred, it would certainly be within hands 3210900-3211150, likely right around 3211099. Just look for the hands which were won with four of a kind.

I do enjoy playing at Mansion a lot. I use the sports exchange extensively, and all my poker play has been with you lately and I've been sending friends to Mansion. But I do need to see the hand 'Cap' is talking about to reaffirm my confidence with you. Thank you

>Hello xxx,
>
>Thank you once again for your email,
>
>Thank you for the information sent regarding this issue,
>
>In order to investigate this matter fully and thoroughly we require the following information,
>
>1, Table number you were sitting at
>
>2, Hand ID or failing that the time this incident happened.
>
>3, The nickName of one or more of the players on the other table,
>
>4 The table number of the other table this ocured at.
>
>The reason for this is that it is not possible to just search for a table as the histories are only recorded in individuals poker histories, therefore without a members ID we cannot search for this table.
>
>As soon as we have this information we will investigate this matter fully.
>
>Thank you for choosing MANSION, we look forward to being your choice for premium gaming entertainment online.
>
>
>
>Should you request further assistance with this matter or anything else regarding your MANSION account please do not hesitate to contact us.

> >
> >
> >
> >Unfortunately, however it is not possible for us to fully investigate hand
> >history without details of the players involved in the hand. If you were
> >able to provide us with the name of the player who informed you of the
> >outcome of the hand you are querying we will be able to take a look at the
> >hand through their account.
> >
> >
> >
> >However, they have investigated the possibility of these hands occurring on
> >two separate tables at the same time and, although extremely unlikely, it
> >is possible due to the large number of hands which are in play
> >simultaneously on the site.

I was in a hand at the same time at another table in which my full house Aces over 10's from my hand of AA lost to pocket 10's when they got four of a kind 10's. I wouldn't have thought anything of it except somebody from another table I was not at said the exact same hand had just occured at the table I previously mentioned. I have vehemently defended Mansion to friends as being extremely fair, resulting in their signing up, but this shocked me and I wanted to check to see how similar the hands were. It's very possible there was a glitch in the software as you had to reboot right before this happened last night.

This is basically no info, but here's the response I got:

Hello genuinejon

Thank you for your email and the information you provided.

Unfortunately to enable us to send you the hand history you requested we would need to access the hand histories through a members account.

We are sure you appreciate this breaches our members security, it would not be in the best interest of our members to disclose any information relating to our members accounts or activities.

Any member can access their own history by accessing "My account" - "Poker history"

We apprecaite this may not be the answer you were hoping for, however we trust you understand the situation.

Besides the usual automated reply saying they received your e-mail, I've received no response at all from them. It would appear they are content to hope this all just fades away.

You would think it would be easy to verify what you are saying.

I WILL NOT BE PLAYING AT MANSION.

Online Poker needs to be regulated by an independant third body. As poker players, we should be able to send inquiries to this third body and have them deal with the online provider.

Right now, there is no way to be able to say that online poker is 100% legit. It APPEARS that it should be legit, but there is no way to know for certain.

I am beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable playing online due to the sheer volume of people saying online is rigged. Presently, I've encountered a number of "You've got to be kidding me" hands. I realize we play more hands online, but in brick and mortar, these bad beats seem proportionately smaller.

Plus we have to deal with hackers, collusion, bots, software aid programs.

Getting skeptical..
