Haven't played one yet, how much longer do they take?
|
Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awesome
i'm in a $5 one right now, the first one i tried
started with 1569, just hit the first break and we have 700 left. i REALLY dont think that just because the levels are longer these are going to take more time to finish. |
Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awesome

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awesome
Dear Lee Jones, if you keep the tournament structure with long levels I will glady add stars to the list of sites I play at. Myself and MANY OTHERS have been searching for somewhere to play real tournament poker online.
Pretty please? |

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awesome
A good example is the Stars $300 which uses a different structure and commonly has FTs that last a couple hours.

These tournaments have been around for awhile. You have to look for the "Deep Stack" tournies. The schedule is somewhere on their website.

[/ QUOTE ] no, deep stack tourneys are just that, deep stacks with slow levels (you start with 200bb if i'm not mistaken) these have simply a better structure for "normal" tournaments as you start out with 50BB, and half hour levels. |

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awe
is this particular tournament played every day at 18:45? or was it a one day test?

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awe
My god, who would want to play a tourney for fricking 12 hours? Go outside.
Maybe for very high buyin tourneys with large prize pools I could understand, but not for $109 and lower I would think. |

I dunno about everyone else, but I think that it'd be great for like the WCOOP, not the stars 215 million sunday tourney, that'd take wayyyyyy toooooooo looonnnngggg.

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awesome

maybe keep the same chip structure and make the blind levels 20 minutes? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah I played in some non holdem tournaments last night and they took twice as long. This new format does not fit those games very well except maybe PLO8. Stud and limit Omaha should go to the old format IMO. |

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awe
so it appears that there's an $8.80 today at 16:16 with the same structure as yesterday. i think i'll be playing...

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awe

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awe
Im not speaking from my current point of view im too busy trying to make a buck playing STT's or cash.
Yet when i was a purely social player an MTT with a nice slow structure was heaven for me. The attraction is being able to play poker for a long time without it turning into a crapshoot, to be able to make moves or wait for hands etc. No matter what the eventual financial reward was, there are plenty of people out there who this caters for and you can only congratulate stars on these tournies. Sometimes i think posters on here lose sight that most people play poker for entertainment and not the $$$$$$. |

Re: lee jones - this 2.5k chips 25/50 blinds 30min levels is f-ing awesome
Why don't they just use the same structure as the WSOP and most big live tournaments?
25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 100/200+25, 150/300+25, 200/400+50, 300/600+75, 400/800+100, 500/1000+100(maybe change this to 600/1200+100), 800/1600+200, 1K/2K+300, 1.5K/3K+300, 2K/4K+500, 3K/6K+500, 4K/8K+1K, etc. Also, I think that it might be cool if they could "race off" the lower denomination chips once they become unnecessary, and when people split a pot, the difference should be to the nearest low denomination chip in play. Also, force players to make incremental bets based on the lowest denomination chip in play (eg, at the 400/800+100 level, you can raise to 2500, but not 2650). This will prevent people from having ugly-looking stacks of 153,469 chips and such. Maybe this is just a pet peeve of mind, but I hate all the weird bets of 7,777 or 69,696, and having rounded chip stacks would make it easier to do exact pot odds calculations, especially when facing all-in bets. Considering that you are starting with 25/50 blinds, 2500 chips is a good starting stack. The general philosophy behind my suggestion is that high antes is good for aggressive players who steal more than their fair share of blinds, and punishes those who fold too often and don't defend their blinds enough. As far as the length of levels, I think 20 minutes is good. The slightly longer levels compensate for the slightly higher blinds relative to the starting stack sizes. 30 minute levels is just too long. I don't want to have to spend 15 hours straight playing in an online tournament, not even the WCOOP. Hands are dealt faster online than in live play, so the tournaments should take less time to complete. I suppose that if they really wanted to have longer play, they could stop play after a certain number of levels and continue it the next day. Personally I don't think this is ideal, but it might appeal to those players who want longer levels or more play. Finally, I want to stress that the most important aspect of the structure I proposed is the higher antes. The current ante structure in the Sunday Million, with 100/200 blinds and antes of 10, is just ridiculous. It makes stealing the blinds barely any more desirable than without antes. If you don't like antes, play Pot-limit hold'em. |
