Fall 06 Classes

I'm way too lazy and not quite bored enough to search for/resurrect the old thread from OOT, so here we go:

OK, so I was really bored today and looked at classes for this coming semester. I'm going to take:

ORF 411 Operations and Information Engineering

plus one of:

MAT 314 Introduction to Real Analysis
MAT 390 Probability Theory

and one of these pass/fail:

POL 317 Discrimination and the Law
SOC 345 Money, Work, and Social Life
ENG 365 Topics in American Literature: Henry James and William Faulkner
ECO 513 Advanced Econometrics: Time Series Models

along with starting my thesis (something about optimization and portfolio selection/asset allocation).

What are you guys going to be taking?

POL 346- American Foreign Policy
POL 316- Civil Liberties
ENG 301- Writing Non-fiction Prose
PHI 255- Philosophy of Religion (pass/fail, core curriculum credit)

didn't get into ECO 202- Advanced Micro or ECO 203- Advanced Macro. That is not good. (Political Economy major with only one ECO credit my freshman year.)

-programming classes-
Algs and sata struct 3 (guis)
operating systems
discrete structures

-non programming classes-
digital electronics
foundations of math

algs and discrete are programming classes which are a waste of my time.
os is a textbook course, no point in going to lecture when it's all in the book.
foundations is a lecture class but slides are published, and it is conceptual which means i shouldn't have trouble picking up the material on my own quickly.

so basically i have 1 class, and it meets at 1:00pm twice a week. niice.

that is brutal, but yeah you will learn to love the nap. I had 10 am classes all last year (and probably this year too) and I still napped every single day.

I don't have to decide my classes until after a week of 'shopping period' where I get to go to any class I want, but I'm almost definitely taking:

ok, while looking at my classes I realized that this one french class I was gonna take isn't being offered this year, which actually completely [censored] up my schedule, god damnit. Well, I'm definitely taking:

Mathematics 21b. Linear Algebra and Differential Equations
Statistics 110. Introduction to Probability

and I'll probably take

French 37. Les regions de France: hier et aujourd'hui

no idea what my 4th class will be. probably something that will suck though.

Re: Fall 06 Classes

I leave for SMU in 3 days.

I'm not too worried about my waking up early though. Not because I am good at waking up early, but because those early classes are Spanish and Acting respectively. Meaning I won't be there nearly as often as if it was something more "serious"(?). And MWF my 2nd class of the day isn't until like 1 or 2 either, so...

CME 006 Engineering Profession
CME 433 Chemical Engineering Lab
CME 455 Chemical Engineering Process Design I
CME 470 Professionalism, Ethics, and Safety
CME 471 Technical Public Speaking
CME 550 Chemical Reactor Design
CME 599 Drug Delivery

See that schedule? 7 classes, right? That's a 14-[CENSORED]-HOUR LOAD.

CME 006 meets 1 hour a week for NO credit. NONE. But at the same time is still mandatory.

The lab meets EIGHT hours a week for THREE hours of credit.

This should be a blast. At least this is my last year of this [censored]. No wonder us CME's get the phat cheddar.

P.S. Believe me I am fully aware that CME 006 and CME 470 look redundant, go figure...

The b-ball team will be good again by next year. Do you follow the team closely? Smith, Skeen, and Gurley are going to be sick, and I still think Swinton will become a beast.

Wake was my dream school forever until I slacked off and got rejected; I'd be a legacy like 7-times over if I went.

those are all frosh, besides swinton (who has yet to impress me). i dont need them to "going to be good". i need them TO BE GOOD. this is my last year.

granted, as an alumni it'll be sweet if they do end up awesome. i don't think they're gonna be another chris paul and dominate as freshmen.

So far I'm taking:

Intermediate Russian Langauge/Culture
Anarcy and Terrorism in 19th Century Russia
Medieval Influencces of Tolkien/Lewis

That's only 11 credits, but I have to take 15 to keep my scholarship/graduate with honors. Ive taken almost everything I NEED to graduate (just need 1 math class). Unfortunately scheduling at GWU is horrendous and any of the following classes I could take require getting up for 8 am, friday class, or traveling 20 mins to our 2nd campus. Which of those sucks the least?

Possible other classes:

Logic
Statistics (both fill math requirement)
Milton/Paradise Lost
Post-Colonial Literature
Modernism (English Lit class)
Lots of Gym credits.
