Will Day 3 Start Off Playing Like a Bubble Right Away?

I've never played in such a large-field event, so I'm having trouble conceptualizing at what point the bubble will actually form.

There will most likely be around 1100-1150 players when Day 3 starts with the blinds at 600/1200/a200 for an hour and then going to 800/1600/a200 for the next 2 hours. 873 get paid.

I have an average stack of 78K, but that is good for 2nd at the table (leader has only 81K), so there will definitely be some oppurtunities to take advantage of some tight play because of the bubble.

My only question is... will it play like a bubble right off the bat on Day 3, or will it only begin as we get closer to the money?

Maybe it'll start to tighten up when it gets to about 950.

I'd guess it will to some extent since lots of players #1 goal will be simply to cash. With 200+ players left before the bubble, you should be prepared for some ridiculously slow play at times. But, the super-tightness might not be there immediately.

Its kind of sick to think about the fact that after 6 days of play there are still going to be 300 more players left than the amount that started the year Moneymaker won.

Anybody know what % of entrants came from satellites? If that # were high that would create more people wanting to just cash the 12000 and call it a successful ME for them.

At least 4400 Online Entrants, per card player's estimates.

I'm sure Rio has satellited what, another eight hundred?

Alright... Plan B is to establish tight image early so that I can pwn the bubble when it is clearly a bubble.

I have a guy named Joe Hatchem 2 to my right on Friday... Any chance he is worried about making the 14K???

At least I should get some good TV time - Bubble play with Joe...

kramer,

I think it might play as a bubble early. The stacks you'll most be able to take advantage of straight from the start are those with 40-50k. Those are the stacks I would aim to attack.

There will be a lot of players entering the day thinking about making it into the money. Find your targets early. The tourny will be down to 873 players sooner than you think.

As she pushed with 52o (or something like that) against a squeeze play I don't think she has that problem, nor do you know who you are talking too

GL man - it would be awesome to get a trip report from you re pwning the table as the bubble approaches like it was some $4/180!

It seems like play is farily normal at the start of Day 3. They're just to far from the bubble.

Do people really think the bubble matters that much? The bubble prize is basically zero.

Not considering a lot of people won their seats in freerolls and low cost satellites, those low end payouts are a real payday for them.

From this article, at least for one it is:

As I was working around 3:00 AM Thursday, an Asian gentleman, who I will call Kim, sneaked into the Media Room. I have been sweating him since the beginning of the Main Event, and I only have a cryptic understanding of his story: he is in his 50's, appears to be beyond struggling to make ends meet, has a very old laptop, has grooming and attire issues. Yet he sits somewhere between $140-190k in chips. I watched as he excitedly talked to a pro yesterday, basically begging to understand what it would take to cash. I opened up the spreadsheet I had just made, found his table and his chip count, figured out who was out his table (he's at one of the top ten players in chips), and we went through all of the different things that could happen, how many times the button would make an orbit each hour, what that would do to his stack, would his table be moved, etc. I told him it was important to look the part, offered to buy him something to wear.

Playing to make 10K isn't a bad idea if you only spent a few dollars to get in, and if you don't have the skill level to make a lot of money by deviating from a tight strategy.

Re: Will Day 3 Start Off Playing Like a Bubble Right Away?

Depends on what your stack is like and the composition of your table. And how much you paid to get in. Like damn near everything in poker, it depends on a bajillion variables and the answer isn't the same for everyone.
