Got a Sebaceous Cyst (pics of my ugly mug)
 

So, I'm going to the doctor in about 20 minutes. Just figured I'll take some pics of this thing before it's excised.

The thing is pretty inflamed and it [censored] hurts a lot. Sleeping is pretty tough. Unfortunately, from what I've read, most doctors don't like to do the excision while it's so inflamed, so I might have to take antibiotics for a week or so before.

The way any decent doctor will remove them these days does not leave a noticeable scar...they remove it through a *tiny* hole in the skin (cut cyst, drain, pull sac through the hole). I had a fairly large one on the side of my face (about 70% of the size of the one in the OP's picture, maybe 2 inches higher next to my ear) removed, and there's no way you can tell it was ever there.

Edit - I got mine removed by a skilled dermatologist...my roommate got one removed by a GP who left a scar...it's probably worth going to a specialist.

Seriously; if you don't surgically remove the encapsulation, the cyst will just fill back up again.

Make them excise it. I had one of these and it's come back every 6 months or so over the past 2 years. Antibiotics don't work as well as opening it up. Plus when you excise it you get to see that nasty [censored] shoot like 3 feet in the air.

Well, I was right. The doc has put me on the antibiotic Keflex. He doesn't want to the surgery until the infection is gone. The cyst itself is just an oil gland that got blocked and kept producing oil. Around the cyst is an infection. All of the puss from the infection is causing even more swelling and is the main cause of the pain.

And, about the nose hair, you should have seen the first pic I took. It was from a lower position and was quite unsightly.

I had one right below my tail bone too! Operated on it myself in a mirror. Hurt like hell and made a mess, but seemed to do the trick.

Whoa. Now that you mention it, that's probably what I had, too. I was having a good time with some friends one night when all of a sudden it hurt too much to sit down, so I had to call it a night early. I woke up in the morning and the thing had burst and was oozing a mixture of puss and blood out of the top of my ass crack. I had no idea what it was, but it took care of itself by the next day. I didn't go to a doctor, though, or even call on Dr. OOT.

i had one on my tailbone, i thought i was growing a tail.
it eventually popped on its own, and the stuff that oozed out stunk

I also had a polidonal cyst around Christmas time last year. Easily the most painful thing I have ever gone through. I also did the self-surgery thing and popped it myself when it got big enough to start creating a sinus. It hasn't come back yet and it's been around seven months. Please God don't make it come back!!!
