Official SB Fantasy Football League - sign up details + rules debate

<u>Official Sports Betting forum Fantasy Footbal League (SBFFL): Sign up details and rules debate</u>

NOTE THAT OFFICIAL DOES NOT MEAN IN ANY WAY SPONSORED OR SANCTIONED BY 2+2 just the "official" FFL organized through this, the Sports Betting forum, much in the same way the 3+1 picks challenge is not sponsored by 2+2 but is the "official" picks challenge of this forum.

We'll be drafting and playing on ESPN: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/frontpage

Ten to twelve players (teams) per league. We'll run as many leagues (divisions) as we had interest.

Live draft, of course. Here is the NEW NEW draft schedule:

Wednesday August 23rd
Hall of Fame ($200) : 10:15pm CST (11:15pm EST, 8:15pm PST)
Pro Bowl ($100) : 10:45pm CST (11:45pm EST, 8:45pm PST)

Thursday August 24th
Veteran ($50) : 8:45pm CST (9:45pm EST, 6:45pm PST)
Rookie ($25) : 9:45pm CST (10:45pm EST, 7:45pm PST)

Note that the times were all pushed back 15 minutes, except the Rookie draft thursday which was pushed FORWARD 15 minutes.
ESPN jacked up the start times on the Hall of Fame draft, so those had to be pushed back several hours.

See this post to vote for your top date range...

Payout format: 40%/30%/20%/10% structure for the top four if leagues are 10-12 players. 50%/30%/20% if leagues are 8 man.

Before anyone asks, I'd limit it to one thread per week on the topic of the SBFFL, as to not clutter the forums with it.

Here's the sign-up list. If you're interested, post here or send me a PM with the stakes you'd be interested in playing. I'm willing to start an interest list for any stakes.

SBFFFL Rules and details
==================================

We used the the default Yahoo rules as a starting point. I am intrigued by some of the Sports Guys suggestions on how to improve Fantasy Football however.

Major details, kept up to date if we agree on any changes:

we will go for 10 or 12 teams per league. More than 12 dilutes the pool too much, in my opinion.

Starting rosters will be 1 QB; 3 WR; 2 RB; 1 TE; 1 K; 1 DEF (team).
Teams will have 15 total players, so six bench players (any position). No injured reserve beyond the bench.

We will use a Free Agent / Waivers system.

Regular season will run from week 1 to week 14. we'll have two playoff brackets: the top four teams (1vs4, 2vs3) for a superbowl and the next four for a toilet bowl. postseason will be week 15 and 16.

Offensive statistics and point modifiers:
Every 25 passing yards: 1 point
Each passing TD: 6 points
Each interception thrown: -2 points
Every 10 rushing yards: 1 point
Each rushing TD: 6 points
Every 10 receiving yards: 1 point
Each receiving TD: 6 points
Each return TD: 6 points
Each Off Fum Ret TD: 6 points
Each 2-point conversion: 2 points
Each fumble lost: -2 points

Kicking statistics and point modifiers:
Field goal 0-39 yards: 3 points
Field goal 40-49 yards: 4 points
Field goal 50+ yards: 5 points
Each extra point: 1 point

Defensive statistics and point modifiers:
Each sack: 1 point
Each interception: 2 points
Each fumble recovery: 2 points
Each TD: 6 points
Each safety: 2 points
Each blocked kick: 2 points
0 points allowed 10
2-6 points allowed 7
7-13 points allowed 4
14-17 points allowed 1
22-27 points allowed -1
28-34 points allowed -4
35-45 points allowed -7
46+ points allowed -10

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

I'm in. Would play for up to $100. Thanks for taking this on!

Sidenote: I'm commish in another league for the first time and am planning on using Yahoo's Live Online Draft mode, since we're all from different cities. Have things ran pretty smoothly when you've used this in the past? Several members of the group are not terribly computer savvy and I'm a little worried.

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

Yahoo's live draft is excellent.

People will need the java runtime. They should go to the live draft section of the site at least 15+ minutes before the draft starts (if not days before) so they can ensure they have the right version of java...

Thanks. Good to know. When looking for the best method to chat and talk [censored] during the draft I came across this site.

Takes just a minute to create your own private chat room, and no registering or software download is required. Although using this forum may be just as easy.

Yahoo's live draft has a pretty good chat feature built in, as well.

I'd do it, I put up another post but that can be deleted. Anyone in for a smaller buy in? Like 20 or less? Preferably like 10...

Performify 08-01-2006 10:51 PM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

Yeah i'd be more than fine with an official "high stakes league" for $100 buyin and a "lower stakes league" for $20 or $25 or whatever everyone wanted. Even free, if that's what was wanted, but with a little something on the line its always more interesting I think.

We could award custom titles for both leagues, etc...

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

Performify - Are you getting any PM's from people that want to play? Figured there would be more interest.

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

Please count me in for the high stakes league.

Performify 08-02-2006 10:59 AM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

No PMs on it. So far everyone interested has posted here.

I'd like to see 10-12 for the High Stakes but we could certainly make a go with 8.

Shantanut 08-02-2006 02:35 PM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

hmm, ok well i guess i could do high stakes if nobody else wants to do low...just this is my first fantasy football league ever so i'll probably get crushed...

Shantanut 08-02-2006 02:39 PM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

btw, does preseason count? when would the draft be?

Performify 08-02-2006 02:43 PM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

The league would start with the regular season, preseason doesn't count.
Most leagues typically don't include the post-season either, the FFL regular season generally ends around week 14 with the last couple weeks of the regular season as the FFL playoffs. But that's also up for debate - if you look at the Sports Guy's Rules I linked in the OP, he's got a suggestion for how to play FFL through the postseason.

Draft would likely be towards the end of August. Last two weeks, anyways. Whenever worked for everyone involved.

Thremp 08-02-2006 07:35 PM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

I don't play fantasy football ever before. I'm in a really crappy fantasy baseball league. Like...

Paul Konerko vs. Mark Teixiera third week of the season straight up. Now this is before Mark started hitting like a girl, but whatever. Currently we're both tied for first. If you wanna see his current roster I'll post it and you can see how a luckbox can run it.

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

I'm good for a $100 league, but...does anyone else think ESPN is the only site for fantasy sports? I hate playing anywhere else.

Also, I'm in some 3-sport (baseball-football-basketball) keeper leagues that are tons of fun...keep up to 1/3 of your roster each sport...divy up half the total prize pool to the top few spots in each sport, then pay out the other half to the top few spots in the end-of-year "Triple Crown" standings, so cellar-dwelling teams in a given sport have a reason to keep fighting. Any interest in something like that?

Performify 08-03-2006 10:20 AM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

updated list moved to the Original Post.

I'd like to see 10-12 teams per division. We can possibly combine Mid stakes and low stakes if the $50 guys are willing to play for $20 - or maybe get the low stakes guys to play for $25 as a compromise.

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

Performify,
I think you ought to propose a tentative set of rules so that we can at least having a starting point to discuss how we would customize it to fit our league (or leave it as is).

We could start with a standard set of Yahoo/ESPN/? rules and work from there.

Just a thought.

in then, thought it was a 10 team league

Hawklet 08-04-2006 03:59 AM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

I think you should have 100(high) 25-50(low) and a free league.

Not that the money is a big deal, but it's not worth the hassle of trying to move just 10 dollars onto a brand new site and I think that's reflected in that only 1 person wants that.

Said that, I'll play in a free league, because when pride is on the line, the money doesn't even matter.

Performify 08-04-2006 10:57 AM

Re: Interested in an Official SB Fantasy Football League ?

Yeah we'll take interested sign ups all the way - if it ends up we've got 20-24 interested in the "high stakes" league we'll run two divisions of 10-12.

If the consensus is that the low stakes league should be free, we can go that direction. I'd be willing to take transfers on all the poker sites plus neteller plus paypal, so we shouldn't have too much trouble moving money around.

Performify 08-04-2006 11:04 AM

Thread retooling

Good idea, AnyAce.

OK we've definately got enough interest, so I'm retooling this thread. I've updated the Original Post up top with the interest list as well as the suggest rules.

The rules are up for debate of course. I suggest reading the Sports Guy article I linked there, which talks about ways to improve traditional FFLs for some interesting ideas.

Re: Official SB Fantasy Football League - sign up details + rules debate

I'm hesitant to even post this because if everyone starts nitpicking every category it won't be fun for you to moderate, but since you said it's up for debate I propose these changes...

Every 30 passing yards: 1 point
Every 10 rushing yards: 1 point
Every 10 receiving yards: 1 point

In fact, these may have been the default settings for last years Yahoo fantasy leagues if I remember correctly. Either way, it leads to more scoring and it won't hurt you as badly if you're back or reciever doesn't make it into the endzone on a weekly basis. Especially helps if we end up fielding 12 to 14 teams where the talent pool drys up quickly and you're forces to start weaker players.

Performify 08-04-2006 01:43 PM

Re: Official SB Fantasy Football League - sign up details + rules debate

I'm ok with the suggestion. Anyone else?

The balance yahoo suggests is 2.5:1 value of rush/receive to pass. We use 2:1 in the most popular league that I run. You're suggesting 3:1. We might want to go every 25 passing yards: 1 as a comprise value in between

You're making a touchdown worth 60 yards rushing/receiving. that sounds like an acceptable balance. Their default of 120 yards = TD is definately too high.
