The Doors
What is the best song by the Doors? I personally love Indian Summer and The End. Anyone else?

Re: The Doors
The Doors = most overrated band ever. (Ok, maybe The Rolling Stones, but whatever)

Re: The Doors
Roadhouse Blues
The End People Are Strange When The Music's Over Love Me Two Times I'd say it's probably one of them. |
Re: The Doors
The End followed by Soul Kitchen and its not close.

Re: The Doors
Break On Through is so much cooler than all of these songs
Also, related note...I recently have met a number of people who are decidedly anti-The Doors. What's the deal with this? I can't figure out why there's hate for them. Not saying everyone should love them, but what reason is there to actively dislike them? |

I think the some folks hate the doors cause Jim Morrison was such a cocky muthafugga. Some of lyrics are too weird for the masses. Maybe the keyboards and musicial strangeness of the band. IMO they were way more experimental than the Stomes, Who, Zep, or Beatles ever thought of being. That's my best guess on why haters hate. I love Neil Young, but everytime somebody says the can't stand him or his voice, I can see where their coming from. Doesn't matter to me, I think he's the shhhh... it. |

Re: The Doors
i think that the end is a pretty terrible song.
it's representative of the afflictions that morrison had that very much detracted from the doors. i can appreciate the end as a poetic attempt, but as for ROCK N ROLL it fails miserably. i'd say that light my fire is the best doors song. |
Re: The Doors
It is my personal belief that if Jim Morrison had not died, he'd now be 260lbs and opening for Wayne Newton in Vegas. Severely over-rated band.
But he, that's just my opinion. |

Re: The Doors
On a related note, what do you guys think of the movie The Doors with Val Kilmer? I thought watching it while getting high was an awesome experience, but I also love their music...

There are many that I care for more than others, and some I don't care for at all.....Pretty much like the body of work of any other group. It probably has more to do with personal likes & dislikes than anything else. They are much better judged by their complete body of work, both musically and sociologically within the times that they lived. It might be very difficult for those who did not live through those times to understand the significance of many of their songs, and that would certainly be understandable. To dismiss their influence on the current events of the late 60's/early 70's would be an error. |
Re: The Doors

[/ QUOTE ] I don't actively dislike The Doors... like the way I actively dislike bands that are still popular. Nobody tries to make me listen to The Doors while I'm shopping or something so I don't really care. But they are definitely overrated. The whole idea that Morrisson was a great songwriter is hooey, he was blessed with an awesome voice though. The best doors song is probably Five to One. Other than that, they have some good ones, but they were a band with a lot more image and circumstance going for them then consistently good material. They had some strong pieces but were very uneven and had some flaws as well. NT |
Re: The Doors
I don't care for their big hits that much but I like some of their lesser known stuff like Love Street and I Can't See Your Face In My Mind.
|
Re: The Doors
The Doors are the "Nickleback" of the 60's and 70's.

Re: The Doors
All of you Doors haters need to get a life, you are all insane. Honestly go get high and listen tothe doors and you will have a great time and forever enjoy their music.

Re: The Doors
I'm probably one of very few people who think this is their best song, but...
The Soft Parade Seriously. I can't really get into the rest of that album, but I like that song a lot. |
