Thanks for the link. It looks like they are taking 50 cents out of every hand. I don't care about this freeroll donkament crap, is it worth it to play these tables under the assumption that the fish will flock to them?

Check that thread I have no clue, I am not even sure what they are but I knew there was a discussion about them in Internet Gambling

After reading that zoo thread, I'm seriously regretting logging in to party today and checking out the scene. And still no VIP for July yet.

They will be converting 25NL and 50NL tables to Monster tables by the end of the day. Party CS says that 50 cents extra will be taken out of each pot that reaches $5 for the Monster jackpots.

ajmargarine 07-25-2006 03:29 PM

Re: Monster tables

I just fired off an email to Party VIP. Party just killed itself with this 8-month long promotion. All the fish will be playing at the Monster tables, and go broke quicker because of the crazy rake. $0.50 taken from every pot that reaches $5, no matter the stakes. The non-Monster tables will likely become rock gardens filled with TAGs with fish becoming a rarity. This has a very good chance to kill NL25 and NL50 and put a big dent in NL100 winrates. I am just sick over this.

AJ,

Is it unreasonable for us to play the monster tables? I haven't read the thread or done any rake calcs.

Isura-

Pretty much so. Read the linked thread there are calcs towards the middle.

For an NL100 player, it'll probably drop your PTBB/100 by 3 or 4.

All you Full Tilt pansies better watch out, cuz here I come. I'm either ajmargarine or ajbutterfish on FT. I'll have to find my rakeback provider. I signed up a long time ago, but never really played.

I just moved some money to Party because I was getting a little bored with Full Tilt. Back to Neteller! This is absolutely disgusting for anything below 1/2NL.

This should be interesting. The last thing I want to see is half of MSNL migrating to FT.

Re: Monster tables

Ugh.

Curious to see how far the average number of players on party drops over the course of the next week or two.
especially since it looks like the majority of their tables will be monster tables.

The ones that aren't probably won't be worth playing as it's going to be mostly the smarter/better players playing on them.

The only thing party did right in my mind is finally adding NL to the BB tables, but this massive implimentation is horrible.

Guess i'll just stay on poker room and skins longer

Re: Monster tables

From the midstakes thread on the same subject by Mistermuni:

OK so if a tag wins about 16% of the pots at a 6max tables, that means he wins 16 hands per 100 hands. 16 hands times 50cents per hand is 8 dollars lost for every 100 hands.

at 100nl, 8 dollars is 8bb or 4ptbb.
at 200nl, 8 dollars is 4bb or 2ptbb.
at 400nl, 8 dollars is 2bb or 1ptbb.

Does this sound about right? In effect, discounting any money we win from these freerolls/jackpots, our winrates just dropped anywhere from 1 to 4ptbb/100 (maybe a little less than 1ptbb/100 for those playing 600nl+)? If I'm playing 700 hands per hour at 200nl, thats like $56 lost per hour?

In conclusion, a 2ptbb/100 winner at 200nl is now breakeven. Can someone please confirm this, for this is essentially the end of the world for me and many other players.

This rings true to me. NL100 players are going to be the most effected, with NL50 players right behind them as many of their contested pots reach $5, which is the cutoff for the $0.50 Monster rake.

Stars does not allow resizable tables. And the max you can play is two tables at once.

Seriously, please don't migrate to Stars. I like it there. I left Party to get away from the 2+2 crowd. Go to Full Tilt or something. Stars customer service sucks anyway.

aces_dad 07-25-2006 04:32 PM

Re: Monster tables

But not all of those 16 hands are raked ... we really need someone with 100NL PT stats available to do the calculation Josh posted in MSNL for us.

We do win some preflop steal / unraked pots though just guessing impact won't add a lot of clarity to this conversation.

yad 07-25-2006 04:35 PM

Re: Monster tables

So basically what this business means is that they take our money and use some of it to buy us into Saturday tournaments which we don't want to play anyway, and some of it to fund a BB jackpot. This is absurdly lame.

I have been trying to move to 2/4 lately. If that sticks, I guess this isn't the end of the world, but man does it blow at 200NL and below...I am probably going to switch sites.

Why don't you just not play the Monster tables?

aces_dad 07-25-2006 04:37 PM

Re: Monster tables

Okay, I'll see you there!

The 2 serious concerns is that our buddies will be on the monster tables (dead money will move there), and that all tables will be migrated to monster.

Re: Monster tables

I've found prima pretty juicy, those scandanavians are pretty crazy!

Games are good up to 200NL, not many games above 400NL, also peak hours are opposite of party, but Prima is definitely something to consider.

Re: Monster tables

You mean peak hours are at european time? Thats great news for me - havent ever played there before. Can you recommend a skin at prima? Do they have resizable tables? How about if i want to play about 6-8 tables - is that possible?

Any recommendations from anyone ?

Did you read? It's no longer beatable for anyone outside the best of the best of the best low limit players (guys who should be playing much higher).

kslghost 07-25-2006 05:16 PM

Re: Monster tables

I did an exact study based on 15000 hands of 50NL. The basic result was a 30% decrease in win rate, and part of the thing at 50NL is when you steal (raise to 2), get called (called by 2), you have not reached rake yet, so a c-bet steal is not raked by the monster pot. So at 100NL, you WILL see a larger decrease, but I am not sure if the percentage is higher or not.

societymax 07-25-2006 05:16 PM

Re: Monster tables

Maybe my random-ass-guess method of table selection has just been working out for me today, but I'm at NL100, and the tables seem waaaay juicier than usual. I'm regularly getting like 3 or 4 players to the flop in a raised pot. Sample size, blah blah blah, but I'm thinking this monster thing won't be as apocalyptic as some of you are making it out to be.
