How healthy is Chipotle for you?
I eat Chipotle a fair amount and was wondering how healthy you think it is? The cheese and the meat might be semi-unhealthy. But the vegatables are def healthy. Thoughts?

Re: How healthy is Chipotle for you?
There was a thread about this a while ago. I think a simple google search will tell you that Chipotle is full of fat and has far too many calories for a single meal. But common sense should tell you the same thing.
Here try this link: chipotle nutrition calculator |
Re: How healthy is Chipotle for you?
Since you started eating it have you gained weight?
|
Re: How healthy is Chipotle for you?
The tortilla is probably the worst part for you. It's like 300 calories IIRC. So cutting that out and getting the burrito bol is a decent move if you're concerned about that.

Re: How healthy is Chipotle for you?
Are you eating half of it for lunch and half of it for dinner? This will be okay every once in a while. You could do a lot worse. The problem is that not too many people can treat this sort of thing as an occasional treat.

[/ QUOTE ] The sour cream and guacamole are pretty bad as well. Just used the nutrition calculator thing and the burrito I get is about 1700 calories but if I got it with sour cream and guacamole its almost 2000. Edit: The chips seems to add the most, about 500 calories. |

If you get the bowl, no cheese, no sour cream, no guac, it comes to around 650 calories. When isn't too bad for a lunch. The biggest problem I think is just physical size. 1/2 a burrito would do me most of the time, but of course I eat the whole damn thing. Now, add the tortilla, cheese, and sour cream and you've got a 1000+ calorie overload. |

Moes>Chipotle

Re: How healthy is Chipotle for you?
ck,
No tortilla, no cheese, no sour cream, no guac. That sounds like some delicious Mexican food! Anyway, I feel sorry for all you guys who think Chipotle is good stuff. Must suck not to have real burrito places to go to. |

[/ QUOTE ] people don't go to chipotle cause they think it's a real burrito place. this has been established long before. but yah, i agree with you, even for what it is, chipotle sucks. highly overrated. i can't imagine eating that bland stuff, without cheese, sour cream or guacamole. |

oj,
"people don't go to chipotle cause they think it's a real burrito place. " Many do, my friend, many do. |
Re: How healthy is Chipotle for you?
Damn. I don't want to start yet another burrito thread.
oddjob: I disagree - a lot of people, including people on these message boards, think chipotle is awesome. (I am not among them, BTW, but just pointing that out.) Masked Man, or anyone: Can you compare/contrast adovada and al pastor? All: If you're in the SF Bay Area, check out Taqueria La Bamba in the hoodlike section of Mountain View on Old Middlefield Road. Get food to go. Retire to a safe location. Eat. Enjoy. (...and, to go completely offTopic, that place is only a couple of blocks away from a bar called Fancesca's which is now the home of Uncle Franks BBQ!) |

[/ QUOTE ] you're probably correct on this, though they shouldn't. the perception of chipotle from my friends is, it's not real mexican, it's just cheap and filling. some love it, some don't. it's big amonst the veggies, which i can see, since they have so few fast food options. |

Re: How healthy is Chipotle for you?
A chipotle chili is a smoked and dried jalapeno pepper. It adds good flavor to salsa and other items. Peppers are high in vitamin C and have high fiber content.
Mexican food, although delicous, is high in fat and calories. Steer away from the ground beef and avoid deep fried items and melted cheese, or if this is too difficult, eat Mexican food only occasionally. -J |

La Bamba is good.. but you should try Tacos Jalapa in Sunnyvale (Mathilda and El Camino) over by where the old Olsen cherry orchard used to be. Get a burrito Jalapa which is their wet burrito... and you won't have to eat for a week afterwards..LOL Their traditional tacos rock as well. |

m2d: I understand what you're saying, but I used to work in the tech park section, and it's tough to think of a bunch of office buildings as the 'hood.
bravos1: I will give that place a shot. |
