Sleep Temperature

So I have a Honeywell thermostat, I can't find an exact jpg of it but it's one of those where you can set wake-leave-return-sleep cycles M-F and Saturday and Sunday. Pretty slick.

Over the past few years I've become tolerant of warmer temperatures. My last ex kept her place at 78 degrees, plus her bedroom was on the second floor, heat rises etc. and it was tough to sleep. Time was, I couldn't sleep above 76 degrees, but that may have changed me. Forever, I've had my sleep temp at 76, but a couple of months ago upped it to 77, and in the last week bumped it to 78. No noticeable loss of sleep.

Have AC set at 69ish now.

Re: Sleep Temperature

My wife HAS to have it at 72, then she buries herself under a thick blanket. Makes me crazy as I would be fine with 76 and drives my electric bill through the roof. I need to set up a dual zone so we don't have to keep the rest of the house so cold.

I want to be able to hang meat in my bedroom. I sleep much better in a cool room with some blankets than a warm room sans blankets. Much easier to warm up than to cool off.

These options are all way too high. I would say somewhere around 67 is ideal.

I'm sweating just thinking about trying to sleep in 76-78* temps!

A/C is on 67* at night and I could still go lower.

Re: Sleep Temperature

WOW did I apparently eff this one up.

Here in Phoenix every degree below 80 costs a lot of money. That said, I'm amazed by how cold some people have their place.

I remember about 15 years ago when I shared an apartment with somebody. We had central cooling, so free A/C. We had an agreement that in the summer we would leave the air on ALL the time to get the best bang for the buck. It would be colder than sh*t in our place most of the time but we just looked at it as getting the most bang for the buck...

Re: Sleep Temperature

there should of been 2 polls, one for what you actualy sleep at, and another for what you'd like to sleep at.

ours is currently set at about 77, but this is mainly because I have one roomate who's a tightass and he has the peter griffon "who touched the thermostat" sixth sense.

I'd like it be be set at about 73 in the summer, but I sleep best in the winter when it's about 65.

This was seriously polltarded. 75? Try like 68.

Re: Sleep Temperature

Mine's around 77, which cools my small apartment just fine. If I'm in a frugal mood, I'll leave it at 80.

69 is ridiculously cold. I think my AC would be on all the time at that setting.

I sleep with the windows open, but 2 big doonahs. Its like -1 celcius here at the moment. The colder the better.

I believe mine is set at 72. I don't have it running right now, but I've always found that I sleep better in a slightly colder room. I have heard the same thing from other people as well.

So it appears. I guess if nothing else this shows how much more tolerant of warmer temperatures people can be when they're in them all year.

Also, all that rolling on the floor laughing should help keep you warm.

Too cold makes my throat hurt in the morning. Also, my side of the bed is near the AC vent and I CANNOT STAND air blowing on me while I sleep. Our thermostat is set at 78, which my wife negotiated me down to from 79. During the day while I'm out I know she goes down to 75, but changes it back before I get home.

I used to like it colder, but care less now that I'm old and crusty and cheap.

I like it around 65... I like bundling up with lots of blankets when I sleep.

I would also MUCH rather be too cold than too warm when sleeping. The few times Ive had to sleep in hot weather with no AC I stay awake the whole night.

That's too hot, but the wife won't let me go lower. the [censored] you put up with for love...

I end up falling asleep on top of the covers most nights and then getting under them at some point during the night.

I think prefering to sleep cold rather than warm is standard. I don't think anyone likes to sleep while hot.

Re: Sleep Temperature

In the summer I sleep at however hot it is in my apartment with the fan on. I have the window open, so it's probably close to what it is outside. I guess that's about 65.

In the winter I turn the heat lower, to about 60-63 at night when I'm sleeping.

For the record, when I was in college (in Wisconsin) during the winter we tried not to turn on the heat, ever. I think the average daily temp was somewhere in the 50s inside our apartment.

something like this

Living room floor level is set to 70 degrees, basement is around 60 degrees, upstairs varies between 80-85 degrees by the time I wake up.

It [censored] sucks. I have to sleep with a box fan pointed directly on me to keep from overheating in my sleep.

Are you guys sleeping in flannel pajamas under 5 blankets or something? I sleep in boxers and maybe a t-shirt under one light layer of sheets, and as I said, 74 or so is fine.
