Rebuilding the Cubs
we keep Lee,Zambrano,Barrett and Cedeno, everyone else is expendable.
the argument that we havent had a SS since Dunston is crap,as is the same with a 3rd baseman. who cares if we havent had a solid player in a certain position, the only solid position we've ever had was Sandberg at 2nd. We havent won in decades, almost a century, so you dont keep someone around just because we havent had somethin in awhile. This is why we continue to lose, because of thinking like this, we are never continuously tryin to improve. Murton has a drawback, his power isn't really worth anything and his arm is about as strong as a 2nd basemans. So what do we do? Listen to all offers, take what we can get cuz we're not goin anywhere this year or next. Re-build but do it right, dont half ass it like we have been for decades. Dusty Baker also should be replaced, maybe Bob Brenly or Lou Piniella. They both have WS rings. Fine players for not hustling, for not being into the game. Light a fire under their ass, its their job, its the game they've played since they were kids, its supposed to be their life. Start having them act like it. Im a pissed off Cubs fan and I need new ownership and personnel or im gonna go crazy. What do the rest of you Cubs fans think? |

[/ QUOTE ] sadly, the easiest way to get these is to pick a new team. and i'm confused why the cubs should build around cedeno because they haven't had a good shortstop in forever, but no aramis, who is twice the player and at a similarly dead position for the franchise. |

You do know about Baseball-Reference.com, right? [/ QUOTE ] ya i do, it was more of a spur of the moment banter, sorry i forgot the precious Sosa. Also the thing about Ramirez is that he doesn't hustle at all or seem to care. There's no sense of urgency ever for this team. Ramirez is not a star and can't carry a team, he's a guy you get when you're 1 player away from a championship, not 10 or 12 players away as the Cubs are. Some Cubs fans have the impression we should keep Ramirez around cuz we haven't had a 3rd baseman since Santo, thats why i brought it up |

Re: Rebuilding the Cubs
He drove in 597 in four years; 149/year. 1621 total bases; 405/year. He drove in over 100 runs nine years in a row; and he had two years where he hit over 30 home runs and stole over thirty bases before he became a great player. He hit 63 home runs in his 4th best year.

sell the team [/ QUOTE ] There is literally no chance this happens. The Cubs are one of the most profitable franchises in the MLB, mainly due to their idiotic fans willing to put up with retards in the front office year after year. |

The Red Sox could not buy William Lamar Beane - the Cubs certainly cannot.

He is still quite the personality and loves to talk baseball. It is worth the rake just to listen to the man go on and on with his stories. Anyway, he often refers to Ramirez as the f aggot on the team. This is due mainly to his selfishness and lazy behavior. Kind of humorous. [/off-the-record] |
Re: Rebuilding the Cubs
stop relying on Wood & Prior
The line-up is actually pretty decent--Murton, Pierre, Jones, Ramirez, Cedeno, Walker, Lee, and Barrett is solid for the NL. Zambrano is a bull, but there isn't enough backing him up. Bad starting pitching exposes relief pitchers. Acquire a pitcher or two. Spend the money they make. Oh yeah....build a new grandstand for Wrigley (you can keep the same locale and atmosphere). Needs wider aisles, more boxes, and less poles blocking my view of Pujols hitting dingers . |

Neifi Perez seems to find his way in the lineup at all times, as do other idiots replacing actual prospects. |
Re: Rebuilding the Cubs
Ramirez is very good plus he has played really good defense since coming to the Cubs. Yes, he should hustle more, but there aren't 5 3B better than him. It will be interesting what they do with Pierre because he's been very good lately. Lee, Ramirez, Cedeno, Barrett, and Jones should all be kept. I think a lot depends on if the Cubs can sign a big named LF such as Carlos Lee. I think Murton's probably a 4th Outfielder. He could platoon in RF with Jones who usually struggles vs. the Lefties. Jones took a lot of crap early mostly because he's a similar player to Patterson, but the fact is that Jones has been the best hitter the Cubs have this year. I'd like to see the Cubs give Theriot all of the ABs at 2B, because they aren't keeping Walker. We should just trade Walker now and be done with it. I like the way our pitching is shaping up. They have run Marshall out there every 5th day which is going to pay dividends next year. Marmol looks good, so they need to keep running him out there every 5th day in the second half. Zambrano is probably the best pitcher in the league right now. They should deal Maddux to let him make a playoff run and bring up Rich Hill and run him out there every 5th day. Contrary to probably everyone else, I do think Prior will come back and be a fine pitcher - he's just had a really bad run of luck colliding with Giles and then taking the line drive off of his elbow. When he came up, everyone talked about how good his mechanics are so I'm betting he will be fine starting in 07. We have the makings of a pretty good bullpen, but Dempster needs to prove he can get it straightened out in the second half. Erye and Howry have been everything we thought they would. The other guys down there have been mediocre but that's pretty standard in this day and age.

[/ QUOTE ] or if the entire outfield didn't suck eggs. essentially, the cubs are stuck with prior. he simply has to be healthy, they can't get much that would compare to the upside that is him 3 years ago. basically, get enlightened management and managers and spend some of the ludicrous amounts of cash made on the Cubs on the STUDS and not jacque [censored] jones. get beltran, get pedro, whatever. take only the best guys on the market for more than a couple mil a year. Note how this "decent lineup" has a -.120 OBP or something ridiculous outside of DLee. Sadly the farm looks rather barren as well for impact players. Lots of high-upside pitching and zero position talent. Even the patterson trade looks stupid. |
