have you ever fired a gun in the house?
was listening to a story on Townes Van Zandt and was interested if anyone in OOT had done this...
As for myself, in MT, in the mid 80's, we had a packrat and the old man told me to grab the .22 and put a few shells in the [censored] - so I have fired guns in the house...otherwise it was just a bb pistol at cans in the living room - RB |

Especially not on the night of the 11th. |

Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
Too bad there wasn't someone to beat your dad for his foolish action of leaving a loaded gun in an unlocked container when there are children in the house. No offense intended to your family, but it is my opinion that you were not in the wrong there.

Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
Surely I was wrong, and deserved to get [censored] kicked out of me, it was in the place where i had no business being and i did something that I clearly was not suposed to do.
|
Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
I tested homemade silencers on .22's and fired these in my closed garage. I don't know if this qualifies as in the house.

Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
My grandparents had a little shooting range in a crawl space in their basement. Had a thick steel plate at the back that was about a 45 degree angle that deflected everything down. Had a wire around two wheels and youe could clip a target on there and then run it to the back of the crawl space. Used a 22 rifle and it was a ball!
I also know of a couple other examples. Both in Montana as well. One incident where a guy went after a mouse with a .22 in his house. Yes he killed it. The other was a guy who needed to drill some holes through a roof to install a chimney pipe and he just used his .22 pistol instead of a drill. Said it worked just fine! |
Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
Does the garage count? I used to shoot rats in my garage with my .22 when I was a kid.

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed, your parents, and not you, were in the wrong there. Rather than beating an 8 year old, they should have thanked their lucky stars that their own carelessness didn't lead to you or someone else being seriously hurt. I should also add, I have never fired a gun, period. |

[/ QUOTE ] Everyone is passing a lot of jusdgement on your parents w/o knwoing this full story, but I think there's probably enough blame to go around on this one. When I was a kid, we had guns around our house, some loaded some not. From the time i was very young I was taught to treat them with respect. I knew which were loaded and which were not and not to handle with any of them w/o permission. I understood the importance from the time I was very young. If you did something you weren't supposed to, then yes, you were to blame. But your parents were as well for not ensuring you understood the importance of not handling the gun. |
Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
I'll be the first to admit that I know very little about guns, but I do know that leaving guns loaded while in storage, or unlocked in places that kids can get to them is pretty much universally unsafe.

Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
I wasn't there.
I didn't do anything. I didn't see anything. I don't know anything about it. |
Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
Buddy of mine had an accidental discharge when cleaning his beretta 9mm. Thought it was unloaded, it wasn't, oops. Put a round through the roof of his home and killed a squirrel. Called me over to look at the hole. Good times.
Additionally that was the last time I ever worried about the stopping power of a 9mm hollowpoint, that [censored] tore up his roof. J |

Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
I haven't myself. An old friend of mine has. Several people were over at his apartment drinking a few years ago. He was showing off a couple of hunting knives and then he pulled out a pistol (not sure what kind). A couple of people asked him to put the gun away. He called them pussies and said the gun wasn't loaded, etc. Then he pointed it at his television and pulled the trigger. Gun goes off. He ruined the most expensive item in his apartment. Good times.

Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
You need to stop listening to the whiney liberal media. Crime is a people problem, not a gun problem.
What are you gonna do if an intruder breaks in at zero-dark-thiry and is wielding a knife or gun? Grab your phone and hide under the bed and call 911? If you honestly don't want weapons in your house, that's fine. But forcing your irrational, emotionally immature fear of weapons on others is how we got these worthless gun control laws to begin with. Sorry for the rant. FWIW I have more ammo in my house right now than the entire local police force combined, along with one of those EVIL AK-47's among other guns. P.S. We're really the good guys. |
Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
One day after school there was a huge spider with a pretty large web spread across some kitchen cabinets. So I went to the garage, got the bazooka, and took that sorry sucker out. I don't think my mom was too happy when she got back home.

Re: have you ever fired a gun in the house?
Well, judging by the stories so far, keeping a gun in the house seems to have much more to do with dangerous accidents than killing bad people.
I think few would dispute that having a gun might be nice if someone breaks into your home intent on killing you, but the "liberal" argument is that the harm from the chance of misuse and accidents vastly outweighs the good from crime deterrence. |

[ QUOTE ] What are you gonna do if an intruder breaks in at zero-dark-thiry and is wielding a knife or gun? Grab your phone and hide under the bed and call 911? [/ QUOTE ] something like that, yes. I think the probability of that happening times the damage they would cause is less than the probability of one of my [future] children finding my gun and killing themselves. but that's just me, a person who is incompetent with weapons. I understand that you are frustrated, but chill out my friend! my intent was only to point out that there's another way of looking at this. if you know how to use your weapons and how to keep them from your children, then I think you have a pretty good case for keeping weapons in the house.
