QQ flops set but faces scary river

6max at Party. I had been playing 27/16/2 and had been stealing a decent amount prior. Recently, I have tightened up and haven't given much action.

Villain is 56/7/1 over 150 hands. Have seen him slowplay a lot of hands he should have not have slowplayed. Traps preflop by just calling with QQ. Slow played 2 pair, etc. Hasn't done anything special but is not a good player.

Its kind of obvious you're posting this because he was a donkey who would call anything to make his straight. Against a sensible player you probably did enough to make him lay it down. Maybe push the turn?

I like him for QT, seems to explain the play (for a donkey).

Why so small on the turn vs. a donkey? PSB or more is necessary.

You said he did slowplay his two pairs. There are a lot of two-pair hands that would call your preflop raise (Q8,QJ, and Q9). He may do the same things on this hand, and he may bluff with his bust flush draw. I would have called his bet. Result please? Thank you

while i usually say u dont have to pot the turn because a smaller bet gives them bad odds, when thr turn brings a 2nd draw into the picture you usually wanna bet moreso then you would normally. i probly bet 30 to 40 on this turn.

river is an easy fold for me.

Pot the turn, I think you probably have to fold the river.

Nah, I don't like people commenting/posting hands on here with that type of thinking. Why I'm posting this is only known to me and you should not assume that just because I'm posting I suffered a bad beat or whatever.

RESULTS:

River: ($72) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Villain bets $69.43, Hero calls $64 (All-In).

Final Pot: $205.43
Villain has 3c 8c (one pair, eights).
Hero has Qc Qs (three of a kind, queens).
Outcome: Hero wins $200. Villain wins $5.43.

However, I do agree the only sensible holdings I see for villain to call a flop and turn bet here are Q-10 and 10-10, given that he would stupidly slowplay any of his other two pairs, I decided to call since I beat any combination.
He turned out to be on a stone cold bluff.

However, the reason I posted this hand was that despite villain's retarded play, it almost almost worked on me. I was about 3 seconds away from folding and I thought it was a great play even though I'm sure he didn't mean it as such.

Defintley don't fold here, only hand that I can see catching that river card is Q10.

Why are you considering QT so highly when 3 are in play? Good call, always ask yourself if he is they TYPE of player that would try to steal that pot.

Re: QQ flops set but faces scary river

i've made uglier calls in the past and held up. i'm prob calling the river with any set or top two and folding anything less.

Re: QQ flops set but faces scary river

zeero- the thing was. he wasn't, not based on my reads which is what made my call even harder.

If he was very aggressive in my reads and had an AF of say like 4+, this would be an insta-call. The thing that made it hard was that he was overly passive, calling station-type ish player and you always have to concerned when that kind of player bets. I was surprised to see a bluff here, my best thoughts were to see some weird 2pair.
