stars 150 seats guaranteed

According to my calculations, theres going to be something like 4700 players in this tournament. Anyone even going to bother with a field this big?

mlagoo 07-10-2006 05:51 PM

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

maybe the same people will bother that "bother" to enter the 5,000 person stars million field?

lemonPeel 07-10-2006 06:04 PM

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

With 5k in the million, at least 750 players got some money back. 150 is about 3% of the field.

kutuz_off 07-10-2006 06:04 PM

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

Or the same people that bother to enter the 8000 entrees WSOP ME in the first place?

The buy-in is $350, the prize is $11,000. Hey, that's about 3%!!!

And 150th pays the same as 1st.

Don't forget the overlay in form of PokerStars providing hotel.

I was going to ask this question. Then I thought, "Hey maybe these guys won't see the tournament and I can walk away with it!" Thanks, thanks a lot.

"World Series of Poker main event packages ($12,000 per package value)."

Hotel included in "price", is not an overlay.

Sir,
Hotel is not included in prize pool. It is 1 package for every $11,000 in prize pool + $1,000 for hotel on top of that if you agree to the Poker Stars sponsorship deal. Thank you.

Just to echo Jurollo somewhat -- Stars is very very cool and gives you $1k extra (out of their own pocket - not part of the prize pool) for hotel, so long as you agree to their sponsorship deal. So it is a genuine overlay (again, so long as you agree to their sponsorship deal).

Plus, last year, they give their qualifiers a big bag full of Stars stuff -- and your name is embroidered on the bag. I suspect (Jurollo can confirm) they'll be doing something similar this year.

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

Jurollo,

If a player has already qualified for this year's WSOP and wins another seat in the 150 Guarantee (or some other ME sat.) -- I believe the Stars policy is to credit the 'repeat' qualifier with $10k in W$. However, would it be possible -- instead of being credited with the W$10k -- would it be possible to roll the seat over to 2007, as Stars now apparently does for underage qualifiers?

Forgive me if this question is confusing or stupid.

I see by the tourney lobby that it is 1 per $11K in prize pool.

But on:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/wsop150/

it is stated as "World Series of Poker main event packages ($12,000 per package value)"

There is no mention on that page of getting the hotel only if you wear their stuff (it is in the T & C).

If you want them to pay for your hotel you do. If you just want the buyin and the $1k in cash, you do not have to wear PokerStars gear.

Then they should state that on the above page. Or say it is a $11K package with an option.

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

I don't think it's correct to just assume they will have 4500 players in this thing.

They are giving away 150 seats.
They would certainly like to break-even on it but if they give out a bit of an overlay because only 3900 players show up for it they are probably comfortable with that.

I'm still debating cancelling my plans on sunday to play in this thing. But I probably won't be able to make it.

I think it's kind of weird to ask "is anybody going to play in this thing?"
Obviously a LOT of people will be playing in this thing.

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

I doubt there will be an overlay.

I'm intrigued by this and would sort of like to play, but I don't think going to the ME would work very well for me this year. Next year I'll consider it more strongly.

I want to play this, but will likely not be able to get in front of a computer until 5:00 or so. Given ther 20 minute blind levels, is this still worth it you think?

If it's the same format as usual it will be 30minute levels and 2500 chips to start, 30 minutes shouldn't hurt you at all.

SeriousStudent 07-11-2006 01:09 PM

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

Tournament Info on Stars states 2500 chips, 20 minute levels.

Well, if only 3900 people show up, they're going to be almost 300 thousand short in the prize pool. I don't know their business, but that sounds like more than a "bit" of an overlay. Of course, they'll take in 78K in juice so that'll defray it some.

They've got 1235 registered now and no posted cap...I think its plausible that they'll hit 5500 people in the tourney.

However, I spent a grand total of six dollars and thirty cents (in T$, heh heh heh) qualifying for it, so I'll be there hoping to score a bit of magic...

Any thoughts on how long this tournament would likely take to finish?

Justin notified me that you can roll the seat over to next year if you can show proof that you already have won a seat for this year (e.g. an confirmation e-mail from Harrah's).

Given that I've already won my seat through Stars, I assume I won't have to show proof, correct? (not that it would be a big deal if I had to -- this is more just of a nitty 'I have to show you proof I won a seat, even though I won my seat through your site!?!?' type question).

The current Stars policy is to award repeat qualifiers with $10k in W$ (that is, qualifiers who have already won a seat through Stars, and then win another one through Stars) -- so is Jurollo confirming that players who won their first seat through Stars could roll their second seat (if won through Stars) over to '07?

Again, this is kind of nitty; I'm sure I won't be cashing on Sunday, but I'm curious nonetheless.

kinda off topic....what is the best way to sat into this thing....even if i used the W$ i think the sats would be profitable. Obviously not the $3 + r, the 7.50 turbo maybe?? The FPP ones seem to pay terribly (one seat for 23000 FPPs or some crap)

The 60 sats are paying 1 for every 7 entrants, so that's probably your best bet. I've won 2 seats already so I'm going to have to say this is the best chance.

pdjplano 07-11-2006 06:49 PM

Re: stars 150 seats guaranteed

I qualified via a $27 sat, and I'm horrible, so I think the field will be pretty soft for this for 2+2ers...

When I qualified on Monday they had 650 or so signed up. They are constantly running sats and have over 1300 right now. Given 600++ per day just in sat qualifies + all the last minute signups (there is no big Sunday tourny this week), AND the fact you can use this if you already won a seat in other events (I know a few people who already have seats but are playing anyway to get $$ for other tournys), I can't imagine them not getting 5000+++
