Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
This might belong in TQZ. Mods, please move it if this is the case. I'm looking for song suggestions for a mix I'm making of hip hop songs with beats that really stand out, specifically in that they are more "beautiful" than the norm. Lyrics are of minor importance compared to the beat. Here are a few examples of what I'm getting at:
Never Change - Jay Z I Got A Story to Tell - Biggie Respiration - Blackstar I have plenty of my own ideas but I'm interested in outside input. Suggestions? |
Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
I'm not a huge fan of their other songs because Sage Francis is a big old geek, but I really like "The Cure" by Non-Prophets.

Respiration - Blackstar [/ QUOTE ] I have actually used the beautiful to describe this song in the past. Some suggestions: All That I Got is You - Ghostface Killah You Never Know - Immortal Technique Runaways - Sage Francis Theives in the Night - Blackstar That's off the top of my head, I'll try and come up with some more. |
Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
'50 Years' by All Natural fits your description perfectly. It's really a beautiful song.

Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
Masta Ace - Good Ol' Love
|
Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
LL Cool J - Ten Million Stars
The Game - Dreams |
Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
i opened this just to post 'all that i got is you' by ghostface (featuring mary j) but someone beat me to it, so here's some others:
dizzee rascal :: brand new day dizzee rascal :: imagine ghostface ft. musiq :: love ghostface ft. raekwon, slick rick & rza :: the sun sharkey :: i luv u the streets :: dry your eyes the streets :: all goes out the window |

"You Got Me" by the Roots (?uestlove's beat at the end of this is so cold it kills me) NT |

Masta Ace - Good Ol' Love [/ QUOTE ] I was thinking Masta Ace - Beautiful. |
Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
Big L's "Flamboyant" has a really nice flute loop.
I feel like I should be able to come up with something else, but it's not hitting right now. |
Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
I have no idea wtf beautiful is supposed to mean. This song rules. clicky
Mods, this song is up for download on the person's Myspace, there are no copyright issues with it. Please don't delete. |
Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
i had one come to mind but i can't put an artist or song title to it. main part of the beat is strings, like the kind from that big chinese string instrument, and the chorus goes something along the line of "i'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six." used frequently in rap battles.
anyone know the tune? |

I have no idea wtf beautiful is supposed to mean. [/ QUOTE ] Agreed, the OP's examples don't give me a very clear idea either. Another one I was thinking of was "Quiet Storm" NT |

Re: Your suggestions for beautiful hip hop
It's not a sample, it's the actual beat, the people who made the original beat, Eminem, needed to clear the sample they used. I'm fairly sure that mixtapes don't need to clear anything.

[ QUOTE ] cheers. great beat. [/ QUOTE ] It was before it became a beat at every single battle ever. I think it's overrated. [/ QUOTE ] It's so percussive, and it has the little spare piano in the background, so it's easy for people to get into the rhythm and also to focus on the lyrics. That's why I like to rhyme to it, though admittedly not as much as some other beats. It's not my favorite beat or anything, but it DOES still always make me want to rhyme. Part of that might be that I heard an Eminem/Biggie radio appearance where they rhymed over it before I knew the name of the beat, so I already had something good with which to associate it. |
