Nit calls pit
Point Edward 5/10, main table. The table is filled with 7 or 8 regulars consistently begging for additional seats to be filled, and taking walks fairly often. Tonight was the first time I've seen the fourth man walking rule invoked. Suffice to say that this was a painfully slow game.
Anyway, old regular Roger asks the waitress to deliver a Stella to Jerry. He spots her bringing a Sterling to the wrong person and causes a big fuss. The dealer, knowing exactly who Jerry actually is, tries to get the waitress to take the beer to the right person. After wasting a whole bunch of everybody's time, the waitress ends up leaving the beer with Roger for him to deal with it himself. Roger plays out the current hand from the BB and decides to miss his SB to deliver the beer to Jerry. He returns two orbits later and comes back on his BB. Nit across the table demands that he surrender his SB. Dealer demands that he surrender his SB. Roger says he doesn't have to and the floor is called. Floor says that Roger doesn't have to surrender. Nit gets annoyed and, for the first time I have ever seen, calls the pit boss. No hands are dealt while we wait for the pit. Finally, she comes over and explains that Roger does not have to surrender. Action finally continues at its painfully slow pace. Does Roger have to surrender the SB? |
Re: Nit calls pit
Not at all. His missed the round that would have required him to post it. As he is coming directly into the BB, there is nothing for him to post, period.

He returns two orbits later [/ QUOTE ] enough said right there. He's now missed the bb/sb two more times. BB always takes precedence over missing the SB. He doesn't have to post bb/sb and then sb again. |

Re: Nit calls pit
If he's coming in on his BB he only ever has to post his BB, because he's going to have to post his SB next hand. If he comes in at any other point during the first 8 hands after he missed his SB he has to post his dead small blind. If he comes in later at any point where he can legally come in that is not the big blind he has to post and surrendor.

The floor made the ruling and the pit boss backed it up. Our opinions don't matter. But I agree, I ain't never played nowhere that you have to post the SB if you are coming in on the BB after having missed a BB+SB. Doesn't matter whether you come in on the next BB or 5 rounds later--wait for the BB and you get to come in for just the cost of the BB. |

The nit is wrong

Re: Nit calls pit
Sounds like a fun game. Just like Dante's Fourth Circle.

Re: Nit calls pit
If he had returned one hand later than he did (ie if he missed exactly 1 orbit or exactly 2 orbits and came back right at his SB instead of his BB) would he be allowed to continue playing immediately without any extra posting?

[/ QUOTE ] No, because you can't come into a game in the Small Blind. In this case he would have to wait until the button passed him and then post dead (BB and SB). |

God, I hate live play.

Re: Nit calls pit
At MCC they used to give you a button for every round of blinds missed. After coming back in the big blind, one dealer tried to make me post every hand thereafter until all my buttons were gone.

[/ QUOTE ] The dispute started just before a new down. Once the dealer was ready to continue the game, a new dealer came in and didn't deal a hand until Roger was able to learn whether or not he had to post. This isn't the best run cardroom I've been in. |
Re: Nit calls pit
Roger is a moron for asking the waitress to bring a drink to someone at another table that she doesn't know by sight.
P.S. If drinks are free, then Roger deserves a kick in the nuts. |

What is a Stella and what is a Sterling?

[/ QUOTE ] If the cardroom in question allows you to "buy the button" you can post BB+SB in the SB position and get the last action preflop. The following hand, you get the button and play continues normally. |

P.S. If drinks are free, then Roger deserves a kick in the nuts. [/ QUOTE ] It's illegal to serve free alcohol at Ontario casinos. Yes; Roger is a moron, but he gets drunk and sings 9 to 5 and Happy Days while spewing countless chips into the pot in the wee hours of the morning. |
Re: Nit calls pit
Sterling was a cheap nasty beer that was bottled in Louisville, KY for a long time. I think they went out of business and someone else has the brand name now.

Re: Nit calls pit
I believe everybody at Point Edwards knows Roger -- and Jerry, well let's just say he is unmistakable. Both players are huge contributors to the 5-10 game, too bad we can't get them to play 10-20
While it can be a loose room, I've seen much worse. Just wait to these nits try to play Omaha, I believe some of these regulars are going to get quiet nasty -- can't wait! |
Re: Nit calls pit
I have never once heard the term "Pit Boss" used in a poker room. I always though the floor's ruling was final?

I have never once heard the term "Pit Boss" used in a poker room. I always though the floor's ruling was final? [/ QUOTE ] "Pit Boss" is not a common term in a poker room (I have only heard it by players that are new to the room, but it is very possible that in some other country they call the supervisor a pit boss). Typically the supervisor's decision is final, in small rooms the floorman is the supervisor, in large rooms there is a supervisor or "lead floor." |
