Unpopular opinions that you hold
 

I've seen this thread elsewhere, and it's kind of interesting to see the responses. Was reminded of it when chatting with Dids about Lost and The Usual Suspects last night.

Post opinions you strong hold that are unpopular. Your gauge for "popular" should probably be OOT or at least people from OOT you talk to frequently. The world at large can be used to gauge "popular" too, but most of the time that's not going to be all that interesting.

Topics NOT open to discussion for this thread = anything that would normally get moved to another forum. Poker, Politics, Religion, and Sports are off-limits.

Which leaves stuff like A&E, Food/Drink, Relationships/Sex, Travel, Fashion, etc.

I'll start:

<ul type="square">[*] The twist ending of "The Usual Suspects," while cool at first, really just ruins the 2 hours that lead up to it.[*] Most big fans of "Fight Club" are frat-boy douchebags who didn't "get it," but it's still a truly great film.

[*] The best album by The Flaming Lips is "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots," not "Soft Bulletin."[*] The best album by The Shins is "Chutes Too Narrow," not "Oh, Inverted World."[*] The best album by Kanye West is "Late Registration," not "College Dropout."

[*] "24" just doesn't look all that great.[*] MTV shows are not good. Neither in the real sense of the word, nor as mindless entertainment.

Jessica Alba is at best moderately attractive.

Radiohead suck. Awful lyrics and cover art/image, music occasionally decent but more often boring.

People with Downs Syndrome are revolting.

Get Rich or Die Tryin' is the best rap album ever.

U2, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Kiss, Grateful Dead are all horrible garbage bands with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

The Usual Suspects is lame. All plot, no character.

The US should have let airlines go bankrupt after 9/11 and not bailed them out.

They key to good rock CDs is tempo.

Good French wine is cheaper than good California wine.

I'd rather eat at the bar in a restaurant than get table service.

More OOT-centric:

The Postal Service isn't as great as Garden State / emo fanboys say it is, but it's still good.

If Linkin Park had lyrics that were remotely interesting or original, they'd be a very, very good band.



Two topics that I haven't seen talked about in OOT, but are so widely accepted that I imagine they still hold true for most here:

The Princess Bride is an only slightly above average movie.

The Shining is a good flick, but not scary at all.

Musicals suck.

Desperate Housewives and Gray's Anatomy are for old women and gay men.

The new Family Guy episodes are better than the old ones.

"Dance Dance Revolution" arcade machines should be rigged like the suicide booths from Futurama, and set to kill anyone who puts money into them so as to let the weakest members of the species voluntarily remove themselves from the gene pool.

While Radiohead's two best albums are "Kid A" and "OK Computer" (which is first and which is second is largely irrelevant and changes with my mood), their third best album is "Hail to the Thief," not "The Bends."

I'm not sure what the consensus on Jay-Z's albums are in OOT, but I'm guessing "The Blueprint" is considered his best. I'd rank it second, below "The Black Album," with "Reasonable Doubt" coming in third.

Soderberg's "Solaris" is a fantastic movie.

The US version of "The Office" has already equaled the UK version and will almost assuredly surpass it next year.

South Park is better than The Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy.

While I can taste the difference between various beers, and tell that some are better than others, I generally don't care whether I'm drinking a nice import/microbrew or a cheap domestic.

Good steak at a Good Restaurant is a million times better than a Hamburger. The meat they use in most burgers is trash compared to what they use in an excellent steak. Your not going to get a "rediculous" hamburger at any nice restaurant. And once you get a "rediculous" steak at a great restauarnt, I don't think you'll ever go back or enjoy "regular" steaks as much.

Brittany Spears was never hot.

I wasn't a huge fan of Jessica Alba during the "Dark Angel" years but she looks excellent now.

Also, not a big fan of Beyonce although my friends are convinced she is the hottest piece of @ss on the Earth (I'm half white and they are both black).

Here's another one: I'm much more attracted to actresses who have played characters with funny/cool personalities than I am to actresses/models who haven't. Thus why I think Jessica Alba et al are incredibly overrated, while someone like Sarah Chalke or Kristin Bell is incredibly underrated.
