I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
so yesterday, after a long soccer match, i decide i want sushi, bad. so i go down to my favorite santa cruz sushi'ery Mobo Sushi for some delicious delights. im wearing my sweaty fc barcelona jersey and an old sweatshirt over it with my addias soccer shorts and shiney nike boots, so im sure i look like a total tool.
anyways, i immediately recognize the hostess as this girl i dated in high school. im making a takeout order so i go to her. she looks up with a blank face for a second, but then breaks into a "oh my god, i didnt recognize you" gives me a hug and tells me i look great(f yeah!). this girl is just like a total gorgeous surfer chick, works at a gym and was in absouletly fabulous shape(i just checked to see if she had a myspace for picture purposes, she doesnt). so anyways, its incredibly busy and while im sitting next to the server station she is gone pretty much the entire time seating people. she finally grabs my order and i give her my platinum citibank card(balla!, jk) and she rings me up, gives me the reciept, tells me it was great to see me and hurries off to help more people. i give her a 5 dollar tip on an 18 dollar order and on the back write "(her name), give me a call sometime! 555-3865. -ryan." it was the first time ive tried a play like this as i usually think its kind of silly. decent spot? rj |
Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
Where did you write it?
|
Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
I prefer handing them my number directly, but this is probably a good spot to make some sort of move in general.

RJ - How is this not a decent spot?

Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
Giving your number to a hostess you have previously dated doesn't qualify.
|
Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
Do it on the front of the receipt, not the back. Or better yet, just say it. My fear is that she'd never flip the damn thing over to read what you wrote.

Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
Is it common practice to tip on takeout orders?
|
Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
PITTM,
I actually saw a guy do this not too long ago, and coincidentally it was at a Sushi/Hibachi spot. It our waitress that this happened to and we were here first table after reading it and she told us all about it and how cheesy it was. She then went to all of the hostesses and other waitresses and showed them the note and they all laughed and sighed. When she came back again she said she didn't understand it, if someone wanted to actually take her out, and/or get to know her, they need to have the balls to actually do this in person...leaving notes to and her female co-workers was a sign of weakness is basically what I got out of it. Also, my gf was a bartender/waitress for awhile a few years ago and she hated this as well. But hey, it may work for you! |

[/ QUOTE ] when i saw her about 2 years ago she had the kind of hick boyfriend who would come destroy someone if they talked to her gf. this way i left the contact completely up to her. i left the reciept in one of those black credit card/bill jackets with the back/my writing face up. [ QUOTE ] Is it common practice to tip on takeout orders? [/ QUOTE ] not when they already have a 1.50 takeout fee. and not that much. No Call (-500) v. Call (+480) |

Is it common practice to tip on takeout orders? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, if the hostess has to get your order, it is nice to tip them (a smalish amount is ok). However, it is not mandatory, and if you don't tip, they won't get as mad at you as a waiter/waitress would. I tip in these situations, but I think a lot of people don't... |

Giving your number to a hostess you have previously dated doesn't qualify. [/ QUOTE ] This was the main point of my previous post. But now I realize you may be asking, per Tdarko's post, if this was a good tactic? Even though she was really busy - you still could've given her your number in a more direct fashion (e.g. "hey, here's my number [hand her your card or whatever] give me a call sometime, great seeing you"). Cause that would take like 4 seconds and probably be more effective. Tpir - that feels about right. -Al |
Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
Amazing story man I'd put the house on no call even at -500.

Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
You really should have left a napkin with "Backdoor Beauty?" written on it.

It makes less sense than just waiting 2 minutes when she's free and saying hey give me your number lets go out sometime.

Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
Funny, I actually did the same for the first time with a bartender on Friday. I go to this place Indigo all the time and often flirt with the same bartender. I was quite drunk this time around, so I thought what the fxck, I´m going to leave this girl my number. I write it with my name on a napkin and hand it to her. At the time, she smiled large, and I thought I was the man.
That is until immediately after when my friends informed me that I was so drunk, I actually handed it to the wrong bartender (although yes, she was female as well, fxckers). Yeah, I am smooth. Oscar |

welcome to crazy world, population evan.
i called you back twice and you didnt answer either time. come back soon. we now have huge taco equity at t san. rj |
Re: I left my number for a hostess for the first time...
OP, leaving the number wasn the greatest move, even if she sees it, gives her too many outs not to call. IMO with girls, you have to be direct almost put them on the spot and close the deal. Also the unusual $5 tip would be okay if you didnt leave your number, but now it can almost be construed as a bribe. And platinum visa is as common as Poker Stars platinum (Amex is a little more "balla").
On the upside I have found when they say, "you look great" most of the times they mean it literally. There are certain things people say to be polite, this is def. not one of them. That shouldve been your cue to close her. |
