More money in Limit or NL?

Which game do you think it's easier to make money in?

Re: More money in Limit or NL?

there is no one correct answer. It's different for everyone.

For me? Or for you? Online or live? It depends. Even for me it depends. Online generally you can play more hands/hr in limit. If it wasn't for online then probably NL. But not for everyone.

The game in which you are most proficient.

Yeah, I'm a polltard. I should have clarified for a new player who plans on learning the game.

I go with the tame which tends to LOSE me the LEAST money.

Which is limit.

Re: More money in Limit or NL?

-how about getting proficient at both NLHE and LHE ..thats what I do I play a mix of both. I wouldnt suggest mixing both to start out thu but in time you can mix both.

-the faster you can learn to play 6MAX/5MAX at either game the better. FULL games are a bore and you will make much more playing short.

-the money is in short-handed play. I find short-handed NLHE is the most efficient way to break the bad players. Much more often in NL the poor players are drawing stone cold dead..this happens much less than in LHE...but NLHE games need to be populated by poor players to be worth it-if not short LHE games with 2-3 donks will suffice.

If you learn to play both NL and LHE you can jump into the best games of either and make good money. It's all about game selection-get into the good games..

If I could choose the most profitable format it would be either LHE or NLHE short. Assuming both lineups were comparable and had 2 or 3 poor players at a 5 or 6-man table I would play NLHE over the LHE every day all day long--it's just so much easier to punish the fish.

If you cant find a decent lineup to punish people in nolimit revert to planB and play short limit holdem..always keeping an eye out for good games.

Same goes for getting out of tough NLHE games-when you see it find another game. I am uber-nit on game selection.

you are not going to unbiased opinion from most players because most players are LHE players and most LHE players suck at NoLimit.

Re: More money in Limit or NL?

What I dont understand is from a purely financial viewpoint why anyone would play LHE over NL, the average winrate (BB/100) is much higher in NL.

Re: More money in Limit or NL?

I prefer Limit as I find the swings tend to be less. As a semi-new player this allows me to concentrate more on card issues over bankroll issues (a bad down swing and I'm more concerned with the pschylogical issues of bank roll management than playing aggressive).

I've played both to a degree and feel they are almost like two completely different games and require different skill sets. You should choose one that fits your personality type (meaning the learning curve will be less) and then learn the other when you have the basics of hold em down.

NL has far less variance and smaller swings than limit.

Its not a good resaon I believe.
For example 10/20 limit is playmoney comparing to 10/20 NL so if you want appropiate comparision you should compare games of similair size (like 30/60 limit to 10/20NL for example) Then you get similair winrates too...

One thing is for sure - you pay more rake in limit. So the moneye stays on the table a little longer in NL.

If you're going to play online...the best chance to make a solid amount of money imo is limit. And by solid I mean a couple hundred per hour.

Re: More money in Limit or NL?

Personally I just wouldn't be able to handle 150-300BB downswings. Heck, a 3-4 buyin downswing now and then gets to me.

Re: More money in Limit or NL?

My opinion is that in a casino, it's always limit, whatever your skill level.

On-line, if you're mega talented and skilled and can crush any game you chose to play, then the biggest bucks can be made at no-limit. However, for the rest of us who are happy with a couple hundred grand or less per year, then it's easier to do it in limit.

My understanding is that the variance is less but the swings are more. With limit there is only a set amount at risk at a time, with limit I can lose a few buy ins in one hand. Also I play B&M once a week and with california your limited to a small buy in for NL. This makes it hard when you can't protect as well against larger stacks.

For my personal play I tend to pick the wrong time to be aggressive and this was something that was not as much an issue on a limit table. I agree this is a leak that I'm fixing but choosing the correct game to fit my style or personality means that I make money while learning instead of just investing more and more for unscheduled lessons

Isn't the answer - wherever there are more players in roughly equivalent $/hr levels?

I enjoy and feel more proficient at limit, I like the set betting amount...I feel that over time, I am more assured to be profitable, as compared to NL...but I do agree, that if you knew you would be a winning player, there is more money in NL

It used to be that beginners would start off with limit before they tried NL. Now they jump right into NL because they see it on TV. Beginner mistakes can be more greatly exploited in NL. There is more luck involved in limit

this is so true and they dont necessary start in the smallest games either..it's amazing how many donks populate short $100-$400 NLHE games.
