Friend ruined my concert....
Backround: I had bought five tickets for a concert (Del McCoury Band) and put them in my car. The show was at a small venue consisting of probably 30 dinner tables (booths). I was very excited for this show, and my plan was to get there early so I could get a booth right next to stage so we could drink/eat while watching the band mere feet away.
The day of the concert I loaned my car to my friend so he could drive to his house because he had to go to work. I told him "Lock the car and put the keys inside the house" Well my friends and I get to my car to get the tickets so that we can get to the show about 30 minutes before the doors open. Only when we get there the doors are locked and the keys are in the ignition. I'm pretty pissed off, becuase my whole plan is ruined, so i call to get a tow truck company to come and get my keys out so I can get the tickets. It takes about an hour, and by the time we get to the show we have the absolute worst seats in the house. I was very disappointed. It turns out my friend thought I meant "Lock the car with the keys inside" because he's stupid and he thought I had the ability to open locked doors without the key (which sadly, I don't). The cost of getting my keys out of my car was $50, and of course my friend should pay for that. The problem is that he's extrememly poor, and he has no money. He just got a job, but isnt getting a paycheck for two weeks. Should I demand that he pays me out of his first paycheck, or let him pay me later. The money isnt an issue with me, it's just the fact that my friend ruined my plan for the concert. I was very pissed that we did not get good seats, so i feel like he should be "punished". Should I make him pay ASAP, or give him time? Or should I lock his keys in his car? Both him paying me and me locking his keys in his car would probably give me equal satisfaction. |

[/ QUOTE ] He thought you had another set of keys. If the money isn't an issue, it was an honest mistake, and he's really your friend, let it go. And get another set of keys made for your car. What're you going to do if you lose your only set? |

Since this happened (last Saturday) he left another friend's car's windows open all night in the rain, and locked keys in a different person's car (they had a spare). Three offenses in three days, that's pretty bad. And to top it off I had two sets of keys, but this same friend lost them a few weeks ago while playing disc golf. |
Re: Friend ruined my concert....
Your friend is an amazing idiot. I would like to meet him.

Re: Friend ruined my concert....
You loaned your vehicle to a person that you know is a certified [censored]. Your fault.
|
Re: Friend ruined my concert....
The real question is why the hell are all these people still lending him their cars?

[/ QUOTE ] why would anybody think that leaving the keys in the ignition of the car is a good idea? it's just a complete lack of common sense. regardless, "Del McCoury Band" sounds pretty gay anyway, so I don't think you should lose sleep over this one, Kratzer. |

Re: Friend ruined my concert....
This new [censored] that has come to light has convinced me that my original answer was incorrect. Kill your friend, or at least sterilize him so he doesn't have offspring.

K,
"my friend" "he's extrememly poor" "the money isnt an issue with me" |
Re: Friend ruined my concert....
Those tickets should have been in your possession if you were really that concerned with getting to the show early.

Re: Friend ruined my concert....
Pretty god damn stupid of him. However, it's stupid, not malicious.
If he's broke, paying it back is probably enough of a strain. He's likely already embarassed. If that's not enough punishment, SIIH(is)P. |

[/ QUOTE ] If its a safe area, so you aren't worried about someone smashing in the window and driving off, AND there's some sort of hassle with arranging a different drop, then I can see it. If he borrowed the car to drive to a field party or something, and you had a spare set, then I could understand saying, "Just leave them under the floormat, I'll get it tomorrow." I agree leaving them in the ignition is a bit of a brain fart. But if you're not worried about it being stolen, what's wrong with the friend misunderstanding and thinking the request is to leave them inside the car? If this was Compton or something, then I'd ask, "Wait, won't your car get stolen?" But in Safey Suburbia, I'd maybe ask him to repeat his request and then just shrug, and say, "Whatever." |

This way the cost to you is the same without lending him your car. |
Re: Friend ruined my concert....
until the stupid are held accountable, they will continue to behave in a way that completely ignores common sense and reason. this new-ish attitude of feeling bad for the perpetually ignorant and dumb is a contributor to the ruin of our society. be a part of the solution - make him pay.
