Mods Playground

I am BEGGING the next mod who takes it...please make it a food forum again!

I had a lot of fun when it was here and used many of the recipes. Because many of us poker players are home a lot, learning to cook is definitely something I'd like to do. Many 2+2ers are already very competent cooks and I'd like to learn from them.

Again, please make it a food forum.

Would you support the creation of a permanent Food & Drink forum?

Re: Mods Playground

I think it'd be a better addition to 2+2 than TQZ. I'd much prefer getting rid of TQZ and adding a food and drink forum.

Re: Mods Playground

totally in favor of a permanent food forum...I saw a few recipes there that absolutely delicious...and, I really think that there could be good restaurant review/debate threads in addition to the recipes and "you gotta try this" type stuff. pretty please.

Re: Mods Playground

Food and drink is the type of forum that will have many users specifically clicking on it to check it out and contribute. TQZ is a dividing force while f&d would generate a lot of interest from people who don't post in OOT.

I'm 100% sure that The Whisper Zone isn't going anywhere, so you probably shouldn't bother focusing on how useless it is, but rather upon how useful a Food & Drink forum would be.

Re: Mods Playground

Tron,

I agree with you. It's not going anywhere. My bad.

I just think everyone on here would benefit from it, even though it's very specific. I know I would probably make something from it everyday...lots of people are good cooks on 2p2 it seems.

I agree with Nation. I've wished I had a food forum about once every 3 meals I've cooked recently.

I actually had an urgent jello question yesterday, but just had to settle it offline.

Re: Mods Playground

Maybe to balance out all the weight we gain from the Food & Drink forum we could create a fitness forum as well... It seems like there are 2-4 threads about fitness created in OOT every day.

Perhaps a discussion of the matter is needed in OOT?

Re: Mods Playground

To all,

Why not just keep food, drink etc. in OOT like before? Why do we need a Mod playground, I mean I forget to even go in there and that we even have that place. Just keep fine dining, recipes, spirits etc. in OOT and you will get more input and traffic. No need for YET another new forum.

NO MORE EFFING FORUMS! This is a poker site. There is no reason to split up OOT more than it is. If anything bring everything back to OOT!

Food and drink, maybe with Health tied in, would be good.

I agree...good combination there. This forum would get tons of traffic.

All,

I think one forum for F&D isn't specific enough and inevitably people will be calling for a split. Let's just avoid the hassle and create a bunch of F&D subforums right out of the gate. I'll mod the hard alcohol piece. Thx.

In the interest of disclosure, I posted the following short list of new forum suggestions in the Mod forum 3 weeks ago...

1) Arts, Travel & Entertainment
2) Relationships & Family
3) Food, Health & Fitness
4) Micro NL/PL Hold'em

Why not add Food & Drinks to the Quiet Zone? It's actually quite a good forum, and could use the extra traffic. The food threads wouldn't get lost like they do in OOT.

Wasn't the big complaint about doing splits based on topics that then you'd end up splitting them all off and OOT would be worthless?

Food and Drinks are welcome in the Zone (as is Health). I think MrWookie intending to move the more detailed ones from the mod playground to the Zone anyway.

So long as our Food and Drink forum welcomes "ZOMG I"M DRRNUK!!!" posts in the spirit of the current Alcohol forum, I support it.

Re: Mods Playground

All,

#1: Health/Fitness is not a good fit w/ Food/Drink in a potential forum split.

#2: I remind you of my suggestions as alternatives to the LoL/TQZ split during that discussion (Health/Fitness is a specific addition to add somewhere in there):

Leisure and Entertainment forum:
Arts & Entertainment
Food/Drink/Restaurants/Bars
Style/Clothing/Fashion
Hobbies/Pastimes

OOT
Education/Career/Business
Relationships/Love Advice
Hot Girls/nsfw/etc
Jokes/Web links/Video clips/Funny stuff
Other

Another potential division might be:

Non-Poker Activities forum:
Arts & Entertainment
Food/Drink/Restaurants/Bars
Style/Clothing/Fashion
Hobbies/Pastimes
Education/Career/Business
Relationships/Love Advice

And OOT would be exactly that, anything not covered in any other forum. Included in that might be:
Hot Girls/nsfw/etc
Jokes/Web links/Video clips/Funny stuff
Other

The Mod Playground exists primarily as a place to either try out temporary forum ideas, or to just goof off with some forum idea that's fun, but doesn't really have any staying power for a week or so. It's not intended to permanently be the Alcohol forum.

Also, one of the things, IMHO, that's made the Alcohol forum work so well, is exemplified in Miles's beer thread in there. It started out with standard discussion, much like would be seen in OOT, but then, people would either go out and try something reviewed in the thread and report back, or pick up something new to add to the discussion. That sort of persistence is virtually impossible in OOT, where the immense traffic overwhelms many threads, and follow up discussion like that just doesn't happen. You really need a MySpace Trainwreck in order for a thread to be meaningfully bumped after a couple of days w/o discussion in OOT. In a Food and Drink forum, though, I'd not only like to see a thread where someone whips up a particular dish or cocktail or whatever, but I'd also like to hear a follow up report from someone else who made it a few days later.

SamIAm 06-26-2006 01:30 PM

Re: Mods Playground

One of the reasons I liked the food and alcohol forums separate from OOT was that each thread wasn't just another opportunity to try to insult eachother. I like OOT, and enjoy reading & making snarky comments every once in a while, but the food forum had a distinctly different feel.

Just my 2c.

The threads there are quite good, and the discussion is largely intelligent & flame free. It just takes a long time for good threads to develop, since they're only getting a few responses a day.
