Sven has had his hand forced so it will be 4-5-1, I think Equador play 4-4-2 so the midfield battle weill be decisive. Hopefully Lampard and Gerrard will have the freedom to get forward and we may see the best of them.

Expect us to go 3-5-2 if we go behind or have not scored by the middle of the second half.

The heat will be a big factor in this game as well.

I predict a truly horrible low tempo game with neither team showing much willingness to attack but I think England have just enough to edge it 1-0.

This line seems more based on reputation than what the two teams have actually done on the pitch in the last two weeks.

the problem is that to pull upsets in football you need two things:
talented/fast/creative offensive players
solid defence

Ecuador doesn't have any of those things and world class teams are generally solid defensively even when they're playing poorly.

All I know is that through 3 games each, Ecuador is clearly the better team.

Maybe England will live up to their potential, but the expectation on this forum that they should win about 2-0 is questionable at best IMO.

Go for it. But this is a team that beat Paraguay on an own goal, tied a Swedish team that was overmatched vs Germany, and didn't take the lead vs Costa Rica til the 83rd minute.

Ecuador beat crappy teams and lost 3-0 against Germany.
England was much better than Paraguay (much better team than Ecuador) and were also much better than Sweden.

England were somewhat overrated coming into the tourney, but you are going overboard here and your evidence sucks.

If England dont get the own goal in the 5th minute then the rest of the game plays totally differently. They never really looked like they were in danger of not winning that game.

The goal they conceded in the 90th minute against Sweden was totally meaningless. In that game they did a good job of getting the result that they needed.

They dominated the CRC game. If they had gotten lucky instead of unlucky they could have scored 2 or 3 in the first half.
