Best 1990s Horror Movie ???

I'd have to say

Candyman...

Man..just watched The Hills Have Eyes...out of sheer boredom

How bad have horror movies gotten today...they can't even be original, they have to be even crappier remakes of crappy horror films.

Michael Bay and Eli roth should be executed for helping get this crap put on film.

Candyman did come to mind when I saw the thread title. It's a great horror movie.

But the winner should probably be Audition, from what I've heard about it - not seen it yet myself.

Hmmm ... Army of Darkness (I've given up on finding genuinely scary horror movies), or ... Audition (more shocking than scary, but it made me feel something).

Am I the only one who doesn't really place Scream in the Horror genre? Maybe because I wasn't the least bit scared by it, but it seems to fit more in with a Murder Mystery.

I would like to vote for Candyman as well. It was well done and I'll admit that I had a hard time looking in mirrors for a while after it (I was 11 at the time).

No you're not alone. It's a good film, but not horror.

For American movies, Candyman, Blair Witch, and Silence of the Lambs are about it.

And maybe the bodysnatchers remake...haven't seen it, so don't know.

That was more of a thriller or suspense movie, no? I dont view it as horror really. Was def. scary at times though.

"At times?"

I was terrified the entire movie.

Audition was suitably creepy, but I kept waiting for the dog to get killed.

Note for directors: leave the cute dogs out of horror movies or the audience will spend half the film waiting for them to turn up dead.

if your not including Scream as horror then SOL most certainly isn't horror.

SOL-Thriller/Mystery.
Scream-Thriller/Horror

What criteria are being made up here?

When I originally saw Blair Witch everyone loved it but I thought it was just okay. Now everyone hates it and I think it's just okay.

Just read this quote:

"I'm excited about all of the horror movies that are coming out - the explosion of ultravioloent horror movies. The best movie I saw this year was The Hills Have Eyes remake"

I watched The Hills Have Eyes last night and was thoroughly disappointed. I've gotten tired of all these movies that are gory just for the sake of being gory. I liked Saw, but THHE and stuff like House of Wax were just obnoxiously bad. Oh well, I guess I'm not cut out to be a horror fan.

I think you should watch some older horror movies before you make that decision, you might enjoy them.

Re: Best 1990s Horror Movie ???

The House of Wax was actually decent(as in a scale of suckiness its a 9 instead of a 10) in terms of the lame remake horror trend..in part because of how the CMM character was written...and the guy that played the psycho is a good actor. Plus the set design was pretty gnarly...and Elsiha is fking hot.

Chainsaw Massacre..THHE..Amystville Horror..Wrong Turn(aka the Woods Have Eyes)..Hostel..all sucked ass...I'm sure I'm forgetting others.

Last good horror flick I saw(American) was The Ring/Dawn of the Dead.

Blair Witch

Eyes Wide Shut (not a horror, but it had a horrifically-tasting aura to it.) It may have been 2000 though. Not sure I think it was 1999.

If we are basing this on opinion, then Blair Witch doesn't quite get there for me.

If we are basing this on marketing genius, originality, and penetration into the public psyche, then Blair Witch is the clear winner.

Re: Best 1990s Horror Movie ???

everyone always talks about some super scary or creepy asian horror movies but I always forget the titles. What are they? I wanna look them up.

Scream really scared me.

Can't really remember any truly scary ones because all the nits will just call them suspense [i.e. silence of the lambs]
