Is there anything else that has never come close to happening, on which you'd like to take +1000?

I saw a guy jump into the East River once. When they pulled him out, they asked him why he jumped in. He said he was trying to jump OVER the river. He was pretty sure he couldn't make it, but the odds he took really had some value...

In that case, $10k to win $666.66 is less than the max.

btw this is just ridiculous to say, terrible logic on so many levels.

how about betting on the likelihood of a woman president after the next US election? its never come close before so no way it happens in '08 right? ill gladly take a bet that the next US president is female with good enough odds.

look at what the likelihood is THIS time around.

look at other tournaments to see how women in general have been placing.

look at the increase in pro female players. and the experience of the older ones.

look at the TOC! annie duke is the champion of champions! (note: anything i ever say about annie duke is a joke....)

im not saying that it is very likely that a female wins, but both sides of this bet seem pretty pointless imo.

in fact i just thought of a better analogy, which works pretty much perfectly.

consider last year making a bet that an australian would win the wsop.

australians had never even come close before in the ME.

BUT

australian poker enthusiasm had been growing. more and more players were achieving higher results. more aussies were developing confidence. australian poker rooms (well crown at least) went from empty to packed every night of the week.

looking at trend analysis you can see that an aussie winning it was really not that unlikely.

im not trying to start a pointless argument here, but seriously do more research on this before you risk a large proportion of your bankroll on it. this is poker, it revolves a large amount on luck. if chris moneymaker can win it (note: i do believe money800 has improved a lot since then, but when he won it was 90%+ of pure luck) then anyone can.

Re: WSOP Main Event Winner: Male or Female?

Don't forget this is a LONG event. What time of morning did the last WSOP end? Even if a woman is fortunate enough to make it to the final table after several long days of play, she's going to be very tired and not playing that great in the wee hours of the morning. Woman need more sleep then men.....this is a simple fact. I will make this bet at said odds, but I hate to tie up money for that long. I will wait and play it closer to the Main Event if it's available at that price. I would also take a bet against a person older then 55 winning the WSOP for some of the same reasons.

Runner Runner 06-15-2006 04:35 PM

Re: WSOP Main Event Winner: Male or Female?

Also, for a week long event, there is a greater chance of that time of month falling on one of the days of play (more so then a 3 day event). These are all factors that must be considered.

Also, don't forget women have breast. This makes it harder for them to look at their cards, and therefor they strain their necks more often. I would also take a bet against a fat man winning for this same reason.

If anyone wants action, I will lay 50 to 1 against a pregnant woman making the final table of the ME.......

or I will bet even money on an over bet for combined weight of all ME final table participants (1800 lbs), as I believe fat men actually have an advantage since poker is the only competitive game they get to look forward to playing.

If you think 1 or 2 women will make the final table, the under on the second bet would be a great side for you to take, because if 2 young women were to make the final table, my only shot of the total weight going over would be if Greg Raymer made another final table appearance.

Even when Russ Hamilton won at ~350#, I don't know that your 1800 lb bet would have EVER won. Lotta small guys are good at poker.

I am small and I weigh 175. 9 like me plus 1 of Chris Moneymaker's dad = over 1800 lbs. You have action on the under if you want it.

Oh sh*t, final table is 9 or 10 people? I was assuming 10.

Well, specifically, it's ten, but "officially", I guess it's 9. I figured you got 9x200=1800. If the FT players actually listed wieghts, I would book this bet in a heartbeat.

Runner Runner 06-16-2006 12:17 PM

Re: WSOP Main Event Winner: Male or Female?

If it's 9 players we are talking then I think the under is the right side. I was mistakenly thinking it was a 10 player FT for an avg. weight of 180lbs. I know this one goes over more often then not, even taking into consideration the trend of poker players getting their stomachs stapled.

I would never make this over bet on an EPT event, as I need to count on both a low % of women players and a high % of chubby american players at the final table.

I doubt there is a single stomach stapled pro under 180.

Of course you would, because men don't dominate politics the way they dominate poker. There are plenty of female senators, governors, mayors, etc. There are NOT plenty of female NL champions. Your presidential example does not compare to the topic at hand.

Yes, that "works pretty much perfectly", if results-oriented logic was the way to analyze these things.

I'll give you all the +1000 you want on the women, and all the +1000 you want on the Aussies.
